Someone has to be held accountable
For extending every assistant coach last offseason.
Marve is awful, period. Can’t coach linebackers, make a stop when needed, or recruit.
Bowen makes astonishing choices. QB keeper when QB is limping? Throwing on third when you’re going to go for it on fourth? Too lazy to look up the stats, but we constantly threw the ball less than 5 yards downfield first few games letting defenses just sit on us.
Not sure what position coach has improved their squad from last year. TE? Price did alright, but losing APR and Peebles is going to be tough.
Recruiting missed means we have to hit the portal hard again. Need OL, safeties, RB, DL, maybe QB, LBs, basically everything except WR, TE, maybe CBs

You mentioned above you forgot Tuten’s 41 run
Without looking up the box score, there was a TV display of 16 carries and 76 yards (or at least close), so that’s 4.75 yards.
So the other 15 carries had 35 yards.
Chalk it up how you want, but offense was bad. Close to defense play against Rutgers

Not always. We took a deep shot on 3rd and 10 incomplete
We went for it on 4th
Play calling of gaining a few yards knowing it’s 4 down territory would be the right call. Not gettin go your qb stepped on in our own end zone another.
Mostly your point is valid, but there was some head scratchers

Defense was poorly prepared. O has made strides but took too long.
This cannot be the coaching staff for next season.

Why does the D get a pass?
Third straight game we can’t stop the run. We got blasted by a team that had 46 yards passing. The porous front 7 is a massive issue that may be worse than last year.
Offense is bad, so is defense.

I recall the sentiment that no valuable OC/DC would come
That we were so poor in talent that nobody would hitch to this team. We still lack talent.
Should have moved on from Fuente earlier, should have invested more into football earlier

Pod system decided that we needed to maintain our rivalry with Pitt and WF.
Louisville got matched with GT and Miami. Go figure

Think it’s more about disturbing the lower teams.
Take enough money from the bottom teams until they can be convinced they’d be better off in another conference. Few more votes and GOR may dissolve, worst case more money for the top teams. Win-win for them.

Coaches often have buyouts both ways
From the school if they are terminated early
From the coach if they leave before end of contract.
Seems like JR’s contract did not include a buyout clause if he left prior to end of contract.

? Was whether this class deserves a B
Won’t know evaluation or development for some time, but shouldn’t get a B for 1 top 20 VA high school signed, no DT, and only 1 recognized by 247 as a 4 star. If that’s above average grading, then we need to raise our average.

There has been endless discussion and agreement that diamonds are harder
to find. The same podcast mentioned every school now knows when a scholarship is offered, meanwhile online videos increase recruit visibility. Someone posted X Adibi is in 247 database as a 3 star, no chance then or now.
To your point, Beamer never had a great recruiting staff, they excelled at evaluation, S&C, and development.
Why are we comparing ourselves to other ACC teams regarding recruiting ranking? I’m not okay with being an average ACC football team.

Listened to signing day podcast.
Think this class finished well and re-established a footprint, but rating as a B is too high.
If a C is average, then getting 1 in the top 20 of VA kids, no DT, only 1 nationally recognized 4 star (not counting transfers), and a team ranking outside the top 30 shouldn’t rate higher than a C.
I know can’t judge for 3-4 years, but if we are giving this a B in real time what did we give 2020 class?

Apologies, but I sighed when I saw a TE flip from Charlotte
Didn’t go anywhere last time.
That said, new staff so here’s to hoping their evaluations are better than last group. Any insight here on his game?

Grimes has 2 years eligibility.
Bring him on to compete with Strong.
Can’t redshirt Mansoor, showcase him while we got him or he will portal with brother. Bring back DBU and there’s a slim chance.
Still need edge rushing and LB development for the defense…add the whole offense and this is major rebuild. Really good start though.

I am
It sounded like there were going to be a lot of “hard” conversations and more were going to be escorted to the portal.
Instead, it seems to me that there have been a lot of “you really need a strong spring or your opportunity may pass” conversations, especially on offense.
If so:
The good: motivate a hardworking spring
The bad: less slots for early transfers. Staff probably knows the likelihood of 5+ good fit, immediate (spring) transfers is unlikely.

But he has 2 degrees
We wouldn’t say it was a bad decision if he chose to graduate and move on from football.
He’s in the portal so if there is a situation he finds, he can play. If not, he just defaults to graduating and is done with football.
I agree most in portal don’t find a better situation or even a schollie, bad decision if can’t finish education.

Bad decision? He stuck with team after limited reps for years
Read somewhere he’s picked up 2 Bach degrees. Nothing but love for Artis, wish him all the best.

There’s only a few scenarios
1. These hires (coordinators) were top of their list, if so that’s really bad.
2. The candidates for coordinators at top of list didn’t want to be part of this dumpster fire. That’s on Whit for letting it get to this.
Agreeing to increase salary pool for coaching then coming up with this staff is a disaster. Whit should’ve given more resources to Fu and told him coaching changes were necessary. Keeping Corn and hiring JHam were bull****.
