Finebaum is a tool. I would say BIG finds way to get in South if CU and FSU left out. So is VT in line with those two? Is State? Miami? Way I see it is the BIG is coming south. That is if ESPN doesn't pursuade SEC to think differently.

Which institution is prepared to ratchet it up in athetlic operation to evolve for a suitable p2 candidate. GOT 5 Years.

Our Leadership, oh do we have any leadership.
Where's the outreach to the alumni through town hall about the state of athletics at VT .
Oh I forgot public speaking isn't Babcock thing.
I think UVA getting its act together!!!

from Finebaum, and sat on our hands ironically because we didn’t want to leave UVA, but if he’s right, they are willing to leave us.

NCSt. I have always heard one cannot leave without making sure the other has a comparable landing spot. I still believe this is the case

not a package deal. Neither school will decline an opportunity to join one of the P2s even if the other is left behind.
Circumstances will be vastly different than 2003/4.
(In response to this post by HboroughHokie)
Yup. We are are in a new era now. Not only are we not in 2003-04 anymore,
but we are not even in 2014 when VT didn't pursue an SEC invite as the 14th team with A&M's invite.
Not that Finebaum is the one handing out invitations of course 🤣

Do we have a solid poker hand to play? If we do how are you or anyone else in know on how our admins playing the game? Scary times i admit. I just do not know who is playing with 4 aces besides UNC and Notre Dame.

they didn't draw the 4 aces when those aces had already been removed. and then were not smart enough to know whether what and how many cards to discard.

The expectation of the coaches, AD in Pres at VT wrt athletics is to be able to leap tall building with a single bound. None of our guys can do that but who can? Now it is to somehow be able to win while being dealt lousy cards?

If academics are involved, then I would think UVA would pick either the BIG or ACC in a heartbeat, no matter what UNC does.
If it's sports driven, why would they base a major move just on one rivalry?
I get that they have some connection, but it seems overblown to say that UVA will want to follow UNC. There are too many other factors involved. There might be a preference to stay close, but I doubt it's more than that unless UNC can actively help UVA to get invited to the P2.
Does anyone have insight into this UVA UNC connection that keeps getting mentioned?

For years UNC was all out trying not to have to compete with VT on anywhere near an equal basis. The Bill Dooley UNC teams had a significant number of Virginians in their 2 deep and both because of their being the closest to 757 and with all the Virginians, they felt that 757, the Southside and Richmond just naturally belonged to them. Taking UVA with them pretty well insures that VT won't go and that will allow UNC to be THE team for 757, Richmond and the Southside. Leaving will also allow Tenn to take over the southwest. So all they really need from UVA is to provide a physical presence to take their existing name teams into the DMV market.

much better fit for the B1G Olympic Sports wise, and they get most of their high paying out of state students out the North, but maybe they don’t want UVA. 🤷♂️
PS Notice Finebaum’s NASCAR draft comment about UVA. They have great Academics, but the football TV ratings that expansion has been based on, not so much.

He has said if they left the ACC he wanted them in the B1G, because of more Olympic Sports there. However, I am sure this is very stealth at UVA Administration level.

VT has to do what UNC, GT louisville FSU Miami clemson is doing. Total reorganization (inclluding staff replacement) to raised capitail (in any way possbile) to be at that benchmark. Broad outreach within the state. (now if VT internally has not committed to that level of support, they need to be blunt). With these decisions have huge ripple efforts on rights, attendance and branding. Just small example this week UVA and Maryland playing a basketball game in fredericksburg ball field. alot of marketing by both programs, what a missed opportunity for VT as the flagship university of the state....
In 10 years, the scenario of Alabama playing at Charlottesville, nation's eyes, packed place, where as half filed Lane, playing left overs from Wake or Boston college.... Sad.

It was already a hollow mouthpiece at the start, but then he had to bring up the academic argument and look stupid. Even if his only goal is to generate clicks and online debates, it’s a really bad attempt.
It’s amazing how some people will happily humiliate themselves publicly for some cash.

Homers are gonna homer. Two whoppers in the last paragraph:
1. "Clemson is inferior to South Carolina as an academic institution." Not that USNWR is the be-all, end-all. But Clemson is #80 and USC-e is #121. Clemson acceptance rate is 43%. Carolina's is 61%. And I never knew another person who said Clemson is the inferior academically. My brother lives in SC and is a Gamecocks fan. Neither he nor his homies say this.
2. "I’m not sure why the Big Ten would want either one of them." The Big Ten has gone national. The SEC hates this because they just want to keep their conference regional. But they also don't want the B1G moving in on their territory--especially Florida. I have always said that if the B1G wants to go into the South, they shouldn't be messing around with programs like Miami and Georgia Tech, they should go straight for the jugular to real SEC-like programs, Clemson and FSU. AAU be damned. If they take Miami and GT, fine. But not without taking FSU and Clemson first.
Translation: Finebaum and the SEC aren't interested in FSU and Clemson, but they don't want anyone interested in them either.
Side note: If the B1G would move right down the coast and take a school from each of these states: Virginia (UVa or VT), North Carolina (UNC, NCSU, or Duke), South Carolina (Clemson), Georgia (GT), and Florida (FSU or Miami), this would cause a MAJOR problem for the SEC. Let's say that Finebaum gets his way and gets UNC and UVa. If the B1G would take VT, NC State, Clemson, GT, and FSU, that would be a SERIOUS football presence in the South. The only new places that the SEC could expand to for decent properties is the Southwest, the Rockies and California (ASU, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, KU or KSU, Cal and Stanford)--and they've already rejected these schools and regions for the most part.

They will pay the SEC to take the UNC-Duke rivalry. UNC will also want UVA. Long relationship dating back a century. Then with Missouri and Oklahoma they may look at Kansas.
Just speculation, but ESPN values UNC-Duke.

If schools are going to leave the ACC, I would prefer Tech, UVA, NC State and UNC stay together. I think it was a big mistake for them to not have been in the same division, when they had divisions. I think ratings would have been better with the Division title on the line.

Three of us were. UVA insisted on Tech. UNC insisted on Duke. That was our Division. NC State is not that important to UNC. As Somebody who has been around the ACC for a while. That is common knowledge. We'll see what happens in the future. There are no football powers for the Big Ten or SEC to add but FSU, Clemson, or Miami. If they don't want those. They have none. If they talk about UNC and UVA, it's about basketball or other things.

Out of its footprint. As noted, Clemson and Florida State add no value to the SEC due to USC-e and Florida already owning their states.
But how much damage would the Tigers and Noles (or heels, Wolfpack, Hoos and Hokies) being in the B1G do to the SEC. I’m guessing Paul Finebaum would say absolutely no damage, none of them matter. But how true is that? Can the SEC and B1G coexist in the same neighborhoods?
(In response to this post by RandomAsianGuy)

GT fits the academic model. They are in a major metro city. They are big. And they proved last year that they can compete with SEC level teams and be a solid football program.
But they are also very clearly smack in the middle of SEC country, where the SEC has its champ game. So it's a major threat that gets quietly avoided.
FSU is an obvious pick for the BIG or SEC. Clemson would fit better in SEC despite all the public statements about the SEC not being interested. UVA and VT, who knows. We could just as easily be like the Arizona schools and both outside of the P2.
