Starting to think I'll never wear a tie again.
I have been to weddings, funerals, (allegedly) important career/job-related events and upscale restaurants in the past several months...and not a single tie to be seen. After 20 + years as a gubment administrator, I have quite the collection. Thinking I'm gonna trash most of them, and maybe just save 4 or 5 favorites for the rare moment when I feel like a tie might be required or needed.
I honestly can't recall the last time I wore one.

I met executives at ATF without a suit or tie ...I secured 4 million dollars worth of business. The suit and tie was for management, I was the techie to close the deal and answer the questions.

I don't wear ties to anything anymore. Planning to pass them down to my nephew when he graduates college. Really looking forward to the look of pure disappointment when he opens the gift

But couldn’t remember how to knot it. Couldn’t tie the tie. Finally, out of frustration, I tossed it in the trash & went to the funeral open/collared.

...after being in the Navy for a few years. I just couldn't get the halfs to look right, so I made the transition. I eventually perfected it, including adding the "dimple."

Suit and tie was widow’s request when I asked what she’d like me to wear.
Miss that guy. He had a big personality and a jovial tone in his booming voice. Still can’t believe he’s gone. (Heart attack)

Was a gubbie too, and basically, like law firms and all we were way behind the general trend in discarding suits and ties even back when I worked. Got to a point that I'd just wear a tie on Mondays (no suit jacket) just so I don't go downhill too quickly during the week. My theory is that the government has a lot of ex military and you know they're just used to wearing uniforms so at least the higher GSs dressed to the nines.
Just looked, still have lots of ties and don't think I've worn a one since I retired almost exactly eight years ago and a suit or two also and again, people just don't wear stuff to funerals or weddings etc. heck, way way back when one used to dress up when flying but it's been a long time since I haven't seen people wearing flip flops etc. So yeah, still have a suit or two "just in case" but I know I'll never wear them again...maybe once? nah.
You may tempt me to do another triage here. Just time to get rid of stuff, but I've been doing that all along.

dressed up for. These days you will literally see people wearing pajamas on a flight. Sure, you've got a random person here or there you can tell they have a business meeting of some kind as soon as they land and they still dress professionally. But the majority of the plane is dressed for comfort.
Granted, the experience of flying also used to be pleasant. That is completely gone too. I definitely understand the sentiment that if I'm going to have to wade through an experience that sucks, I may as well dress comfortably.

ago. Skipped the tie both times. Wife was happy, and interviewer was happy (I got the job), so clearly not wearing a tie had no negative impact.
I've been a weddings-funerals-job interviews tie-wearer for about 30 years, but doesn't seem to be necessary even for those anymore.

in concert with the advanced engine design, reduced the mass of the fighter and conferred exceptional maneuverability. This also made them both inexpensive and quick to replace.

I even had to buy a couple new shirts that have a collar that covers a tie vs the spread collars that are more popular for the sport coat/no tie affair. I still prefer no tie of course.

life a week ago. I was shocked at what some of the attendees wore. I even saw sweat pants and a sweat shirt. I know she wouldn't have cared, but how decorum has changed!

Dress to laugh, sad cry, happy cry and celebrate their life.
My brother had hundreds to show up at his viewing 12 years ago. He had guys show up after work in greasy pants to pay their respects because he saved their jobs.
My family embraced those greasy blue collar workers.

actually took off after high school to travel the country in his VW microbus. I separate peoples clothes from their character. I was just stunned how casual things have become.

It was his and hers remembrance of traveling after high school in a VW Microbus while they both wore swears getting to the next place in their travels. A true celebration of life and now full circle. They will meet again.

all guys were in suits/ties at all of them. There were a few, mostly younger folks, who were just wearing blazers or sweaters, but for the most part it was still suits. I have two weddings in the next 8 weeks and will be stuffing my gut into suits for both of them.

I change my mind, I am going to be cremated in shorts, a tee shirt with a case of Yuengling and a half gallon of Jim Beam. The family does shots of Maker's mark.

Not so long ago I consulted The Lounge as to whether a suit was required at a Receiving and was told yes. Glad I did, but was in the vast minority. Likewise, seldom wear suits/ties anymore although will don one in a month for upcoming graduation. Probably last suit/tie for the year

I have some really colorful Limbaugh and Jerry Garcia ties that I'll keep indefinitely, and maybe a few select others for things like weddings and funerals...
