Astronomy peeps, what's your take on Apophis?
On April 13th, 2029 an absolutely gigantic asteroid known as “Apophis” will come very close to our planet. In fact, we are being told that Apophis will actually be ten times closer than the Moon as it zips past the Earth. The good news is that scientists are assuring us that there is zero chance that this enormous space rock will hit us.
Would this be a good reason to nuke that rock into gravel?

That's kinda close.
Hopefully it remains inert. W/no outgassing. Old rock, but still ya never know

is still 25,000 miles away. That's close, cosmically speaking, but it's still over 3 Earth diameters away! People getting worked up over what's going to end up being a great big nothingburger.
If it'll make you feel better, try setting off a nuke in close proximity to change its orbit. Just make sure the math is mathin the right way so it's actually moving further away at its next pass.

Who knows if it will be influenced by something that changes it's trajectory?
Best to have plans on the table now...and coordinate with other space countries on the COA so everyone is in agreement.

I've heard speculation it could be so close that it may take out some man-made space satillites. Again, "could" and "may", not no "100%" or "Zero" chance doofus statements. Other than that I say nuke it, especially if I'm not still around.

In ancient Egyptian mythology, Apophis, also known as Apep, was the serpent-god of chaos and darkness, and the enemy of the sun god Ra.
Greek prefix 'a' denotes 'no' as in absence of. So, the name infers no Pepto Bismol.®️
