We’re getting the same ole same ole Franklin here.
Thought maybe a change of scenery and the money would be enough for him to change his ways and win the big games… nonetheless he is yet to coach a game here, only time will tell. Should expect media attention to be fairly underwhelming though, tech will have lots of doubters this season that’s for certain.

So 10 wins a year. I'm on board with that level of same ole.

There will be a co-OC hired that calls plays and knows QBs

franklin's "big game" rep
Over half the "big games" they said Franklin couldn't win were decided by less than 7 points. At that level of closeness, luck or lack of luck can be the explanatory factor. It may not take much for his rep to change in that regard.

SC_Hokie's take on this subject is his opinion and does not

This was a very neutral post
Sorry that you’re butt hurt. 😢 Just pointing out the fact that we gave him the 4th highest salary allotment for assistants, and his hires are not particularly close to that caliber so far.

Same ol’ Franklin was like 2 plays away from the national championship game
Back in January of this year. I’ll definitely take that trajectory for the VT football program. Talk about a massive upgrade.

Speculate what would have happened IF PSU had beaten Oregon
You never know. That was, as it turned out, a springboard for collapse but a win there and Franklin is not HC at VT IMHO.

PSU pod host seems to think we hired a good up and coming OC
Can we just stop with the negativity before a game is even played with the new staff??

Looks...
like Tyler Bowen in a PSU sweatshirt.

Agreed. On one of their free MB’s,
there were multiple posters before today saying that Ty Howle was a coach they had to keep.

Think they’ll complain we don’t throw to the TE enough when we churn out

Same guy with .700+ win pct
If we’re still under .500 in 2026 & 2027 then we can have a conversation

One thing after Franklin succeeds we can remove all the negative folks
These negative folks who feel this is not your VT, guess what it is not. VT has moved on to a professional business model for power 2 football and all the so called second guessers who embrace the good ole boy, back room under funded program, will be irrelevant. And BTW, the new major givers are new alumni, who are very wealthy who elected in the past to contribute due to the previous good ole boy back room model of football. All gone.

And if he doesn't succeed, guess who will be manning the pitchforks?
The same people who say we have to tow the line on the "walks on water" narrative now.

You just made quite a leap there assuming the "negatives" are old liners
Seems to me more of them are aligned with the "burn everything VT has ever touched down" mindset. These "negatives" are a lot of the same who thought Frank failed when "all he can do is win 10 games and cannot take the next step." And are the same ones who refused to believe that the VT job when CBP was hired was not all that. In fact CBP walked into a burned out hull of a program.

I think the doubters want MORE change, not less
Their point is that Franklin is a known quantity. Would he change it up to try to win big games? It doesn't appear that way.

Psst; he won two CFP playoff games in last year’s playoff
Pretty sure there aren’t two teams in the ACC better than OSU, Oregon, Michigan…teams he’s struggled to beat

If it ain't broke don't fix it
I'm sure all sorts of trite sayings of questionable veracity could be applied. Also, the fact he's hiring people he's familiar does not at all say he's totally static in his ways. ** Edited by Pylons at 12/9/2025, 4:34:39 PM
