South Carolina is slinging NIL money. They just added a top 26 LB from GA
You can’t convince me other wise.

SC reportedly lost the NIL battle to VT for Keylen Adams last summer
Like that was a whole big thing, their fans couldn't believe that a 4 star WR would flip from South Carolina to Virginia Tech when Tech was coming off such a bad year prior. The word going around from connected SC people is that VT's NIL program was more advanced and VT was simply willing to pay more for a 4 star player than SC was (as in, SC's budget constraints meant they had to use it on players a smaller number of presumably higher-impact players).

Comments below smack of..."SC getting uppity...get back down here w us".
Kinda pathetic. I could only wish we were as aggressive, and wanted it as bad as they do. South Carolina is building an athletic department with multiple national championships in baseball and women's basketball. I hope Shane wins it all.

Hokie_Forester
Shane will be on the hot seat if his win total does not drastically
improve this year.
F
FLKEYSHOKIE
Agree, Shane will be gone in three years or less !
C
ChrisLords
He can keep his job forever with 6 regular season wins a year.
TekkNerd TekkNerd
Nope....not at all, six wins a year means termination for being mediocre.
Based on what I've seen five to six wins a year will buy you four or five years as an HC, after that the AD will want to roll the dice and see if they can do better.
H
Hokie_Forester
Not a chance. South Carolina fans think they should compete with Bama
every year. 6 wins consistently and he will have Saturdays in the Fall off.
F
FLKEYSHOKIE
South Carolina fans are totally delusional, Shane will be on hot seat after
this season !
VaTechHokiesACC VaTechHokiesACC
Some have him on it now.
Techsupport Techsupport
They aspire to compete with Bama, nothing wrong with that.
Remember when everyone snickered at Beamer's presser in 1987 when he said we wanted to win a national championship at Virginia Tech? After the 1995 Sugar Bowl, that wasn't a punchline anymore.

Except it isn't realistic
Techsupport Techsupport
Sure it is. NIL is a brand new world.

Admire the optimism in the face of having to run the SEC gambit every year.
S

Not a chance. That SC fanbase is delusional & has been almost forever.
Techsupport Techsupport
They aren't delusional, they're undeterred.
I wish there was as much optimism and determination in the VT fanbase, but we've been beat down pretty good.
Hoakie82 Hoakie82
Our fans recognize an ACC program doesn’t make the $ an SEC program does.

Cynically,I'm thinking they+others are flowing some distribution funds into
friendly business hands, then back into nil...Ole miss(for ex) has wild amounts into football, but still has SeanP money.

Shane is a very good recruiter. Wish him luck
Whenever he isn’t playing the Hokies.

Absolutely!
I can't understand the posts below. Good Luck Shane, you're a Hokie and you're my brother! Ut Prosim!

Except when he coached at VT I guess
H
HOKIERIT
His style was perfect for SEC. Considered too arrogant in his territories->
for the Hokies..He waltzed in like he owned the place, and rubbed some coaches the wrong way..PLUS, he replaced Cav in those territories, and THAT pissed off a lot of local coaches; both in Richmond and the 757. Not at all saying his style was wrong. It was just bad timing for him to be using his SEC recruiting style in Virginia; especially with being Frank's son.... Shane is a good coach and will be in the business for a long time IMO
H
HokiesACC2004
6 wins a year isn't going to do it
I agree he is a good coach but they expect to beat Clemson every year and that's not happening.
F
FLKEYSHOKIE
It will be a very long time, before that ever happens again !
H
HOKIERIT
Oh yeah. He may NOT last at SC. That may be their ceiling in the SEC

$EC NIL would make ANYONE look like a great recruiter
H

Nope. He is a damn good recruier w/ NIL bucks average for SEC schools

Shane didn’t do too hot recruiting at VT, that SEC shine helps

Wish him luck? No freaking way!
Wishing him luck is wishing VT fails at football. He told his boosters that his job in recruiting was to make sure Virginia Tech fails in their recruiting, so screw him! Don't give him the time of day as long as he's attacking VT recruiting.

I agree, 1,000 percent !

Remember he was involved in getting wake's playbook. Not his dad's values. Sounds alot like coach brooks

Eddie Guerrero & Richard Petty were quoted saying “if you ain’t cheating
You ain’t trying. This guy named Joe Montana seemed to understand that cheating was a part of the game.
Tuckahokie Tuckahokie
I will defer to the Don Corleone..."I wish him well in his future endeavors
as long as they don't conflict with ours." In this case Shane is in conflict with VT.

I like that.

but they are STILL South Carolina
UGA, Tenn, Ala, LSU, Texas, A&M, Missouri, Ole Miss, All that... to be just a middle of the pack at best........and questionable they are better than clemson
MDHokie79 MDHokie79
They just need a George Rodgers!
vthhhi vthhhi
Yep and entering his 4th season might find himself on the hot seat.

My Gamecock brother-in-law can name every USC-E FB coach since
the 60's...you can drink a tall cold one in the time that takes.

SEC football is a religion. Hard core SEC football fans can name
everyone on their schools 2 deep roster plus know all their opponents starters on O and D.
RTFC RTFC
I could do that for VT 20-25 years ago
and it is not JUST me that has changed...
DMaroonHokie DMaroonHokie
So could I. A LOT has changed.

I wonder if he remembers the ‘84 season
The closest they ever came to sniffing a national championship. They started 9-0 and were ranked #1, then they were inexplicably blown out by a mediocre Navy team.

I guess that was the early version of "Clemsoning".
