dirty. Seems like when VT gets a star like Rice or Neo, they want to be the primary ballhandler. Maybe those guys aren't good fits.

For a guy needing to be on the court for NBA evaluation, why go somewhere that you'll be competing with a bunch of 5 stars for playing time? Unless it's just about immediate cash.

talents in less minutes. Playing with better talent can be a double edged sword. If he is allowed to play true point, he may indeed show off his talents.

and may not play much at all, depending on the rest of UNCheat's roster. Which would seem problematic for NBA scouting.
He averaged 31.7 MPG this year for reference. Doubt he gets that with the heels.

And possibly never sniff the NBA
Regardless of whether he plays or not he has made a life changing financial decision.
Good for him.

It won't hurt that he'll likely be healthy too.

He had no handle and could not get his shot off when he faced ACC caliber players. Good luck at UNCheat. He was a waste of NIL money this year.

He did win the NBA championship.
Lets see if we see a challenging player for VT, evolving into a 1st round draft pick, in a different environment. Like others....

We wouldn’t know if he would be gone to the NBA. Thus holding a spot that we couldn’t fill and would know too late.

With a dollar amount higher than the end of the 1st round he will need a guarantee to declare. He would be taking less money with a pick after pick 20, but he would be getting the guaranteed money that comes with a 1st round pick. Will be interesting to see what he does

let them have additional development or is it competition for them and they would rather have these players in their system/GLeague?

They offered slightly more than UNC, but Malone's pitch was an NBA style offense centered around making him better with spacing

Be there in a year or two. Too bad not at VT. Can’t imagine him against anyone I saw in the sweet 16 yet alone the final 8. He needs a lot more muscle. He has the offensive skills but definitely lacked in muscle and defense.

...it was an opportunity for our own fav program to elevate itself in terms of perception. Now, I'm hearing the opposite on all the channels covering this ("MY didn't know what to do with him", "needed more talent around him", etc.)
