My first impressions of Tech as a kid was his era
I listened to the legendary Frank Soden on WRVA in Richmond announcing the Tech games, Little John (Wetzel) and Big John (Whitesell). Those simple games moved me towards Tech, where I graduated 50+ years ago and changed my life.

Won’t happen. I’m a UR WBB season ticket holder.
Go to every game. Known the girls very well. Almost all come from boarding type schools in New England area. The top players are business majors with academic interest. Coach is great and the girls love him. I talked to the top 2 players about the portal last season. They had absolutely no interest in considering it.
It’s a unique situation. Reminds me of Davidson’s men’s basketball team, if you follow them. That team has no portal players.

Best player I’ve seen in A10 so far, by a wide margin.
Noticed Davidson didn’t have a single transfer in on the roster. Not a single one.

Hope we can keep Coach Duffy for awhile
She impresses me as someone who sets sets high expectations, even including of herself.
Focused and no bs to her approach. Pleasant but inside she knows what she wants to accomplish.
She will be a big name in women’s basketball, beyond Va. Tech
I doubt we will be able to hold on to her if she has the success I expect.
Just a gut reaction.

Nope O’Brien gave Russell an ultimatum
Russell was playing summer league baseball and O’Brien didn’t like that. At the time Russell had professional aspirations in both sports, so he bolted to Wisconsin.
Can’t blame O’Brien. Glenn was in fact a NFL quality QB.
It worked out for everyone.
I’ve known Russell since he was 8. He grew up and played FB and BB with my son in high school.

I have season tickets to Richmond WBB
Aaron is a terrific coach
His teams and players get better each year.
The former Bucknell AD, now Richmond AD hired Aaron away from Bucknell. Apparently they are close.
He will have to decide if he wants to chase the money or continue to coach in a safe environment that Richmond provides.
The men’s basketball coach has been there for 20 years.
If Tech doesn’t hire him, someone else will eventually. He’s that good.

I’ve watched Rousseau for 3 seasons
His team has gotten better each year.
Quality of player has gotten better each year.
Only downside is he only has 1 player who could play in ACC.

I’m a Spider season ticket holder, live 3 blocks from campus.
Tech should handle them. Their guards are jet quick and are aggressive driving to the basket. I don’t see anyone but Collins matching up with that.
They run a Princeton type offense that takes a lot of clock (coach played at Princeton).
As was previously said, they typically start slow so it’s important for us to jump on them quickly.
Hopefully Hunter will have a big night.

It is a nuance but it leaves them slightly off balance on their shot. That is easy to clean up.

I like Mike Young and don’t want him to be fired.
It would be hard to find a better person to represent our university.
I personally feel our fan base, myself included, has an unrealistic view of our potential, partially because of our success during the Buzz Williams era. Football is rightfully the bell cow and the financial resources are directed there. Basketball has to deal with the remaining resources allocated by Whit.
If I had a magic wand, I would “buy” a name coach who could recruit stud players regardless of whether he lived in Blacksburg or New York City. Heck even break a few rules along the way if it needed to be done (that’s a 180 from how I used to feel, but nobody other than LSU or Arizona gets reprimanded).
But I know that’s not realistic. What frustrates me is that I think CMY system has a ceiling against ACC competition that he didn’t have at his previous stop. So we have to live with what we have.

And not be willing to dismiss ANY coach is on that list.
I get so sick of hearing about our culture. It’s worthy, but it’s dog eat dog out there in todays sports world.

I have been watching their game tonight
I understand they wouldn’t fit into MY system
But they are thriving at A&M with Buzz and both have Tech connections
Understand Boots issues but someone accepted him. Take it for what it’s worth.
Both are dogs. You won’t back either down. We could have used them today and perhaps the rest of the season.
Consigned to the fact that you choose a horse and decide to ride it, but still frustrated. In the end all I want is our basketball program to be successful.
