Who says UNC leaving? other than the 7 (which includes VT) have only heard
speculation or worse assumptions.

Well if ACC teams come down then maybe there will be more interest.
Clemson , F$U, maybe even VT Ya just donβt know.

Boy, so negative. SMU does care about football not sure about the other 2.
I think where we are and going to be is better than being an also ran in the enlarged SEC or Big whatever it is. No crystal ball on the future but it will be interesting and we should make the most of it.
What are they SEC going to do with extra money? Do they anticipate HAVING PLAYERS AS βofficialβ employees or are they going to have gilded toilet seats in the locker room?

in no particular order: It generates interest, if nothing else continued
discussions on why it shouldn't be by commentators. No such thing as bad PR.
It keeps ND hanging around and I think ND is the best OOC the ACC has, certainly VT's. Will that be forever, eh who knows. I like ND's association with the ACC.
The ACC is static and will be for the next10 years or so, maybe more. Change is good imho and this is what you can do in cfb to change. Not only is the ACC static but provincial. You have complained about the Tobacco Road bunch running the joint and rightly so. This can spread things out. Now with two of them holding things up -UNC & ST-it seems they object to that, at least one could suspect that.
More money from tv. Some folks are po-pooing 4-5 million bucks each but it all adds up. Right now do not foresee 30mm dropping out of the sky at once. We will " have to work two jobs" to make it up for the foreseeable future.
Top shelf academics. Who knows what can become of that, but this football and athletics.
VT probably won't go more than once a year in football and BB so that can be handled. (VT scheduled Az in a few years so going there is no big deal) The other sports, well that will require some creative scheduling I will admit-but, can be done. These are resilient young people not us old foggies.
Would not think it would help recruiting too much in Cali maybe Texas if SmU comes along for the ride.
'Nobody cares about SMU in Texas". Would they if Florida St. comes to town or UNC or even VT? I would like to find out.
Anyway, there are some others but I really don't see any negatives.

This going independent talk re: FSU and Clem does not make sense. They
still will owe their media $ to ACC -including bowl money? No getting more than anyone else as no revenue sharing with a conference. Are they thinking they will get Notre Dame money? They won't necessarily have an in to 12 team playoff either as I would doubt Stankey and BIG would want an "independent" to take one of the last 6 spots after conference champs. They would have to be super good I would think. Exception would be ND of course.
They should note if they get in BIG reduced payout as Oregon and Wash, maybe the SEC too if they get n there.
Their schedule would get tougher to have creds for playoff.
I suppose they would say "thinking long term"but I am not sure how far down the road. Schools are projecting gazillions but that is too much money IMHO.
All this "barking" by them and others sounds like panic mode due to recent events. Flea on the hot griddle thinking. Hopefully things will settle down and some clarity re media direction(s), money etc. BTW I can't see 7-8 teams leaving ACC anytime soon so might as well settle in and continue to try to grow this conference.
Anyway, what do you hear about how the quarterbacks are doing?

Agree and more than that. ACC needs to look to the future and spend money
to make money. If the ACC is "exciting" (the ACC exciting?) it will bring interest. That is going to
include VT UM FSU etc. May have to give up some per team $ - Maybe- but think not. ND will be around but not with ACC long term (whatever) so need to juice it up. IF you give folks like sportscasters something to talk about besides stuff akin to homilies at a funeral. They will talk about it-alot. Bring the sobs in.

Will not argue with Miami (damn) or desire to play ND more. Don't leave
the bar just yet tho, lots more action to go it seems.

saw an article that ESPN may jump n the bidding for them against NBC and
ND will get their money and independence because of that. Lots happening.

totally disagree! If nothing else it is a hellofva good OOC game.. It is
more than that of course. Premier team in college football that almost every time it is mentioned ACC gets mentioned too. There is no bad PR and of course don't think it says 'weak;' at all. Damn lucky is what I think. VT probably would never have played them.
There seems to be constant speculating on what will happen 10-12 years from now. Wouldn't worry about it. Things are happening like ESPN's divorce from B1G that may help us along the way. Disney may spin off or sell ESPN which would be an interesting time. Lots on the table and in the oven. :>)

well we have four games OOC. 2-3 games btw east and west would
really generate interest WITHIN the alliance and in my mind would make for a longer term possibilities. ACCN might be able to kick up ads etc. If they don't then it will be a bust and fizzle quickly. This ,imo, will be an opportunity to be a part of national brand growth.
We can still use the new scheduling model. jmo

Great, now schedule some games between the two!! Dump the ODU games in
VTs case or a least stretch it out to every other year or 3. VMI has to go. You want to build brand? You want to build National brand? Then this is what you do. Get out of the gate first!!

Agree, some sort of agreement with The PAC would be away to improve schedul

unfortunately VT has lost its national cache, held on until a few years ago
But it is something that can be reacquired.

my biggest concern is VT/ACC can not wait until 2036. The future is now
I am afraid. 'It's lonely at the top time' (mash) and the big boys need to make a move
