Does Virginia Tech Oppose the ACC Adding Stanford, Cal & SMU
Jason Scheer is saying so. I am not a paid subscriber to his 247 content but the VT commenters under his Twitter Tweet are backing Scheer up. I am hearing that Virginia Tech, NC State, UNC & Clemson & FSU all voted it down.
I do think it is FIVE schools, not Four as usually is possibly included. Always listed on most media sites as four or five opposing. I think it is FIVE by the way it has gone dead in the water. If is was just four. Hell would be being turned over to get that 12th affirmative vote. I don't know the ACC. However it would be hell in the SEC.

It doesn’t help VT make more money. And the small isolated expansion doesn’t make any strategic sense for the ACC.
On the topic of ACC expansion with Cal, Stanford, or SMU…
Vote none of the above

is very effective at counting and controlling votes. They would have handled it BEFORE the vote was cast and the outcome little more than a formality. The SEC's issue is with leaks. If they have not already I would expect A&M to get hammered for the UT/OU mess.

Texas A&M has a more firm base in the SEC than Arkansas, That huge fan base. The SEC will relish getting that Longhorn/Aggie rivalry. Arkansas had been playing LSU as their year end rival game for 20 years. The Aggies wanted that slot to play LSU as soon as they entered the SEC. The Aggies soon got that LSU game in the Arkansas slot. Arkansas got Missouri to fill that scheduling slot.
I read that Aggies permanently peeved stuff on this site. None of those deep south schools are heading to the B1G. The fan base would erupt in a revolt. What university is going to enrage 90% of the fan base?

wa A&M reportedly leaked the UT/OU move prematurely hoping to (1) head off the move and, if not (1) then (2) to make things uncomfortable for UT primarily but, OU was a nice add. The SEC guys have a long memory, as you well know being from Arkansas, and sometime, who knows when, they will extract their pound of flesh from A&M for their disloyalty. That is unless they think Fisher and Petrino will be punishment enough without them having to further dirty their hands.

They ran away from UT once. They are certainly capable of doing it again.

The Texas & Oklahoma SEC intended move to the SEC had been a big secret for close to six months if I remember right. Many months is a sure fact. When the Aggies found out, they immediately contacted a media outlet to complain. I remember them saying Mike Slive had promised the Texas A&M president that the Longhorns would never enter the SEC.
It was a nasty event that took a week or so to be transformed into the Aggies now favoring those new SEC additions. One could call it a family squabble but Texas A&M did go public to somewhat negate that label. Texas A&M may have already been punished in some unpublicized manner. Logic is the SEC would never go public with that punishment. However it will never result in the Aggies getting thrown on the curb by the SEC.

My understanding is they can't get enough votes to agree to vote on it, so it hasn't been voted down, it just hasn't had enough votes to get it on the table to vote on it.

I posted this yesterday and some pitchforks came at me. Still haven’t found an answer yet. I believe some Mag 7 schools may be voting for them because they know there will not be enough votes to accept them. I would be very disappointed in VT if they were in favor of this. Jason is a good reporter who checks multiple sources but apparently knows nothing about anything dealing with the ACC. He did a fantastic job calling out the PAC BS over the past year.

you were rightfully corrected by Hokie83. Here is the link to your post and no mention of VT in the no vote. I consider you one of the best posters here, but you got a swing and a miss on this one. Now he has backed up and included VT in the no vote. By the way, if UNC, NCSU and VT voted no, I would be surprised if UVA didn't vote no either. Maybe they didn't, but I would be surprised, those 4 schools are very much in lock step IMHO.

but I wouldn’t bet against Hokie83’s post.
Now, they could have changed the vote to save face for President Sands, knowing they already have 4. It’s been said before by some people that would know, but Virginia Tech, Virginia, North Carolina, and North Carolina State are very tight with each other on Conference Realignment, amongst other things. I have no doubt they worked together on this too.

FSU, Clemson, UNC, and NC State. ND, GT, Pitt, and Louisville are pushing hard for adding Stanford & Cal Berkeley. Not sure what the issue each has. Given that there would not be less revenue, I'm not sure. Raleigh Durham has nonstop round trip flights between RDU and San Francisco for under $300 on United. So it ain't travel budget. They are short by 1 vote at this point.

discussions on why it shouldn't be by commentators. No such thing as bad PR.
It keeps ND hanging around and I think ND is the best OOC the ACC has, certainly VT's. Will that be forever, eh who knows. I like ND's association with the ACC.
The ACC is static and will be for the next10 years or so, maybe more. Change is good imho and this is what you can do in cfb to change. Not only is the ACC static but provincial. You have complained about the Tobacco Road bunch running the joint and rightly so. This can spread things out. Now with two of them holding things up -UNC & ST-it seems they object to that, at least one could suspect that.
More money from tv. Some folks are po-pooing 4-5 million bucks each but it all adds up. Right now do not foresee 30mm dropping out of the sky at once. We will " have to work two jobs" to make it up for the foreseeable future.
Top shelf academics. Who knows what can become of that, but this football and athletics.
VT probably won't go more than once a year in football and BB so that can be handled. (VT scheduled Az in a few years so going there is no big deal) The other sports, well that will require some creative scheduling I will admit-but, can be done. These are resilient young people not us old foggies.
Would not think it would help recruiting too much in Cali maybe Texas if SmU comes along for the ride.
'Nobody cares about SMU in Texas". Would they if Florida St. comes to town or UNC or even VT? I would like to find out.
Anyway, there are some others but I really don't see any negatives.
