For about 12 years if the SEC and B1G aren't interested in any of the Big XII members. If they begin to covet Arizona, Kansas, Colorado, or Utah schools, then perhaps for 7 years. After 12 years ACC options become available.

the money is not enough to placate schools who think they aren't getting enough. It provides zero improvement in the quality or more importantly national interest in the product the conference is selling. That is the problem that has to be fixed and this does nothing to resolve or even begin to resolve any of that. As a matter of fact, it makes it worse because it waters down the product that much more. Oh boy, can't wait for the BC vs SMU game or that Wake vs Cal game at 11:00 eastern streaming on the ESPN app that will get lower ratings than the 3rd replay of the postgame studio show. FSU still wants out and the made up stories by bloggers will continue to make up stuff (most of the noise isn't coming from FSU, it's coming from click bait media.) Those buffoons will continue posting stuff to drive clicks, nothing will change.

The B12 would likely have some pressure to pick up Oregon State and Wash State. But that would be it. Then when 2030 rolls around and the B12 GOR expires is the next potential spot for madness. But before that the other big factor is what they do with the playoff and what additional changes or media contracts happen.

In the days of football driving the television bus, you can add three schools who don't give a crap about football and expect things to be rosy. Those schools will widen the financial gap between the ACC and the P2, ensuring the ACC follows the Pac-12's path to implosion. ND knows that FSU, Clemson and maybe NC are gone as soon as they can go. ND wants to stay independent and keeping a nice home for its other sports with a 5 game scheduling deal helps attain that goal. So, ND wants the ACC to survive in some form so that football can stay independent. Full stop.

so they'll get 5 games against an ACC made up of teams that the P2 doesn't want, which makes it ND's conference because those schools will be more beholden to them for the revenue from those 5 games, because it will be the only revenue making games they will have. So yes, ND wants their ACC ***** to survive.

Doubtful any have place . Maybe Unc. Maybe all the MAG to the BIg. No one knows. Reality is all desire acc survival. Less/ small pvt schools and ND not helping more. We shall see but FSU can’t get in SEC. Imho

It would be a long term investment but any ACC school leaving within the next 10 years will have financial struggles paying off the exit fee and GOR TV rights. I don't see UNC leaving any time soon. I can't see ESPN allowing that to happen, giving UNC to Fox Sports. ACC men's basketball still bring ratings for ESPN during the non-football season. I could only see UNC heading to the SEC at this time, but ESPN also has the ACCN. Maybe 10 years up the road UNC decides to join the Big 10. Like you said, FSU has no place to go. The SEC isn't calling them. Florida doesn't want them in the SEC. Maybe the Big Ten but those guys know the ACC would own all those FSU home games until 2036 so that won't help the BTN now. A lot can happen between now and 2036. For all those conference realignment experts, why doesn't the D-1 schools (P-5, G-5 and FCS) simply place a spending cap on how much a NCAA D-1 schools can spend on their football programs per season to avoid the P-2 schools from dominating and having a monopoly in college football? I'd go further and place restrictions on how much any D-1 school can spend on any sport. Any excess money from their TV deals would go to non-athletic scholarships since that's suppose to be the mission of colleges and universities. I think where we are and going to be is better than being an also ran in the enlarged SEC or Big whatever it is. No crystal ball on the future but it will be interesting and we should make the most of it. What are they SEC going to do with extra money? Do they anticipate HAVING PLAYERS AS “official” employees or are they going to have gilded toilet seats in the locker room?

Is going to be quite a challenge for these teams. Remember most of these cross country games used to happen in the first two weeks or bowl games when teams are fresher. Well now they will be trying this in late October or November when teams are tired or dealing with injuries. Going to be tough to win those cross country games in late October or November.

ND just traveled to Dublin, Ireland. In 2018, ND traveled to San Diego, New York City and Los Angeles in the last month of the season. (It went 12-0 that year) I think that travel concerns are overrated in football.

probably overlooks timing and composition differences in travel. It is completely different traveling mid season than it it is first or last game. The nature of the opponent factors in as well, in your most recent long trip you return to tee it up with Tennessee State which is markedly different than an in conference game. ND does travel and it is the nature of their independence, however, that same independence affords them greater flexibility in scheduling to minimize/manage the impact of travel.

media revenue comes from people wanting to turn on the tv and watch you play. No one outside their tiny alumni base is looking fro an SMU game to watch, so it will join 6 out of 7 ACC games every week that are streaming on the ESPN app, rather than on one of the broadcast channels..but every SEC game will be on a broadcast channel...not because ESPN loves the SEC more, but because ESPN is in the business of making money and those timeslots make more money when an SEC team is in them. Same is true for CAL and Stanford, the number of people searching for their game streaming at 10:30 eastern is about 0, plus their alumni don't care either...what a great addition.

Courts are soon to determine that college athletes are employees of the university and must be compensated. It is expected by most observers that a percentage of the conference media payout will be the basis for the pay. That is why a $30 million dollar gap between The ACC and the P2 is unacceptable. It becomes an immediate recruiting tool.

We have four teams from NC. And three of them always suck in football. Add BC, Cuse, GT, UVA and Pitt. Who wants to play them? Nobody. Miami has sucked for over a decade. VT has sucked for 8-10 years. So have the golden children from FSU. The ACC has ONE good football program. This conference sucks. Nobody who loves football wants to be in it, but we are forced to by the GOR. WE CAN’T LEAVE. P2 does a better job of contracting with the media …ergo big bucks ….and the deadwood doesn’t drag them down… Reason I say that is there are several schools that aren’t excited about lots P2 teams & lots of apathetic optimal tv viewers also…but again …they cut better deals w/ again the media … ND cackling the best with their best of all worlds wherever they can get …but again …they cut better deals w/ again the media …of Conf media related … If we finally cut good deals with the cal Stan SMU additions then great small chunks towards better..if we don’t then standard fare non P2 type deal cutting

That's what the media like. They continue this myth that the B1G is a powerful football league. But with only 2 championships since 2000, and 1 of those due to bad officiating at the end of the game, it's hardly dominant. But they have some members that have big fan bases that drive the ratings whether the product on the field is dominant or not. Ohio State looks dominant when they run through the league undefeated or close to it every year. The SEC has more dominant teams, but also some others that aren't. But the SEC can boast the championships. And the ones that won them from the Big XII are becoming SEC.

In fact, they are voting against the ACC expansion here. So that tells us something.

but, it will depend. I would also say not necessarily placate the masses as just exhaust all of the "easy" options still available. No teams would be left for which a strong case for inclusion by virtually any metric could be made, without having to invade an existing major conference and challenge their GOR in place and it seems unlikely any school would take that path alone. The depends part is really the crux of the matter and it depends largely on what the networks may or may not be willing to do. ESPN/FOX/NBC are all doing a delicate dance at present and the next tipping points in chronological order would appear to be the ND contract renewal(2025), the CFP(2026), the ACC lookin(2026), and then on to the 2030/2031 period and the next Big 12 renewal and ACC lookin. The previous list is the known presently on the calendar but, there could be any number of items(legal, regulatory, etc.) that creep in in the interim and upset the landscape.

What happens if 9 or 10 of the 15 conference members are really really unhappy w the financials of the ESPN contract and views are expressed during the 2026 lookin? ...the ACC shouldn't expect much (if any) of a bump in ESPN's payout. If I had to make a prediction, the increase won't be enough to keep up with inflation.

We could use a 10+% increase in our payout.
