I think the ACC is better off without Notre Dame, this 1/2 arse agreement
was good if they were coming, but makes us look weak now that it's unlikely. No matter what, we can always say we were the first Conference Notre Dame joined in over 100 years. Yeah, I know, not much to celebrate.
It's possible that the SEC and B1G take 8 schools (if the majority is what you need to kill the GOR), but probably not likely. However, if it isn't happening then we need to fight for the basketball to be separated from the NCAA like the football is now. Basketball makes almost a Billion off of the tournament (similar to what the expanded football playoff will make) and the ACC dominates the later rounds, similar to the SEC for the football playoff. The other thing is to get Miami, Florida State and Virginia Tech to join Clemson in the top 10-15. If they do that, the money will come in. I think that Miami and Virginia Tech have the right coaches, I am not sure about FSU, but even three in the top 10-15 will make a huge difference from the past money wise.
I know this, we have been the under dog before and the sun came up beyond our possible expectations. Whether it was the dark days of the late 80's and early 90's or the 2007 Tech Tragedy, we seem to be at our best, when things are at their worst. So while we get knocked down, we live on a trampoline and bounce higher!!!
That's just what Hokies do!!!

Everywhere they go, just seems to polarize and poison an organization. No matter if its the Big East ACC .
Just like Texas (beware SEC)....
Some organizations are like that and its better to leave them alone for the better good.

Can't agree with that
Sure, I am no fan of them at all but it sure is nice for the opportunity to play them in football.

Definitely would help TV ratings for football games on the ACCN. However would that ever induce ESPN to reopen contract negotiations before 2036? Disney has a bad reputation these days concerning a lot of things. I will not delve into that here. I can see it helping Virginia Tech & Miami in finding good homes in a P2 conference. Not in budging ESPN to help the ACC. ESPN is going to set with that contract's big profit margins through this decade.

When Notre Dame was accepted in the ACC for all sports but football...
The first thing that came to my mind was that it was an act of desperation on the ACC's part. Notre Dame had all the leverage in those negotiations. To their credit, they got exactly what they wanted and the ACC got five football games and upper mid-tier to lower upper tier Olympic sports programs. Notre Dame basketball and Olympic sports won't be missed if they leave the ACC. Some will miss those five football games but all the ACC has to do is have five football programs schedule Top 10-15 type out-of-conference teams every year and make sure two or three of them are played at the ACC team's home field annually. Schedule Bama, Auburn, LSU, Texas, TAMU, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Michigan, USC, and Oregon. Nebraska, Wisconsin, Tennessee and Penn State will do too. The ACC already has Florida v. FSU. ESPN will gladly set up "big" games between the ACC, SEC, Big 12 and Pac-12.

Adding WVU and Cincinnati creates much better matchups vs Pitt, Louisville, VT, UVA that has regional built in rooting interest that will drive TV ratings.
16 teams means 4 rivals instead of 3 and the then do the same 5/5 rotation every 4 years. It’s better content.
Get your extra game out of that.

I don't know if it's within NCAA rules, but if it is, let the Notre Dame games count in the ACC standings while keeping ND ineligible for the conference championship.
Ideally you'd want ND to pick up a 6th ACC game annually. If that can't be worked out, then just have them alternate between 4 and 6 games annually vs the ACC, for an average of 5.

I'd normally have no interest in Louisville vs. Cincinnati, BUT
when I find out the Keg of Nails is on the line. I think I'd watch.

I think Cincinnati would probably fit the ACC better than Memphis. One of the benefits of adding WVU and Cincinnati are pulling in rivalries. I think Cincinnati could develop one with Pittsburgh too. It's the thing that fans want to watch. I can tell by hanging around this board that the Hokies want another rivalry game on the schedule. WVU would do it. Boston College and Wake Forest don't really cut it. Miami apparently didn't want it. I know that WVU fans see VT as a rivalry game.
UVA has two UNC and VT. Maryland was somewhat, but we can live without that one. Now I don't know what the ACC Presidents are doing, but they need to do something. They need to spice up the interest in this league. Going and getting teams with no historical familiarity has risk. If we do that we need two that already have a rivalry of their own like 2 from Texas. Just my opinion. I'm not being consulted.

the Backyard Brawl, Texas vs. aTm, Bedlam, Black Diamond, Nebraska-OU, etc. etc. were all great and have been or about to be ended due to ridiculous, non-sensical (at least geographically) Conference Expansion. Some of those games may not have gotten 5 million eyeballs, but I'll bet they get better numbers than Texas-Kansas State, Missouri-Arkansas, even aTm-LSU (when the hell was that ever a rivalry???). Add them all up and I'll bet you the TV numbers were much better with these rivalry games than they are now without.

I have to give it to Pete Carol and Boise playing at FedEx. You would never an SEC team play there. They play supposed neutral site games in Georgia and Florida. Crowds do help the energy of those they support most.

more than that of course. Premier team in college football that almost every time it is mentioned ACC gets mentioned too. There is no bad PR and of course don't think it says 'weak;' at all. Damn lucky is what I think. VT probably would never have played them.
There seems to be constant speculating on what will happen 10-12 years from now. Wouldn't worry about it. Things are happening like ESPN's divorce from B1G that may help us along the way. Disney may spin off or sell ESPN which would be an interesting time. Lots on the table and in the oven. :>)

different if it wasn't just 5 games rotated over 14 teams each year, but it is unfortunately just that.
PS I grew up a Notre Dame fan, I loved going to South Bend to watch them play the Hokies. It was awesome! Passion meets Passion! If it was more often I would agree, but it's not and I would rather play the Canes every year, way more history. Like 3 decades and the series is 15-15 with a lot of that during their hay day.
PSS By the way they are very lucky to not be 0-2 against the Hokies in South Bend, they just don't want that! :-)

Good. I'll have no sympathy for UM when we get an SEC invite and they don't
Not saying we'll get invited. But I think we would be ahead of them in the SEC wish list.

Schedules have gotten so boring over the past 10-15 years. Having ND is a nice bit of variety and helps get exposure for VT football when we play them. It helps the ACC as long as ND is willing to keep partnering.

It was the 2020 season and Arkansas was scheduled to play Notre Dame in South Bend. I don't think the Hogs have ever played them. That season was transformed into a 10 game all SEC season that year. ND was a home & home two game series. I guess the other game may have been cancelled as well. I remember Bielema had a game scheduled with Michigan as Hog head coach and as the game neared. Michigan cancelled the game contract on the excuse that Michigan wanted to schedule that game with Notre Dame.

If they were part of the normal rotation, I get it, but it's just not often enough.
