Sounds like there is a reasonable chance Forrest misses the dual on Sunday.
He might be going to an open tournament instead to get his match count up in preparation for the post season. Understandable but disappointing if the super match doesn't happen.

Just saw that Willie posted on twitter OSU listed Jax or Ronnie as probable
I thought Ronnie used all 5 dates so that would make me think Jax is a real possibility

The Messiah Open is a one-day tournament in PA on Saturday.
Forrest wrestling at the Open and then driving down to Blacksburg for the dual match isn't out of the question. I am doubtful but fingers crossed.

Isn't there a one day limit of matches OR
that only applies to the Messiah Open event.

The NCAA limit is 6 matches in a day.
You'll see guys hit it in some of these single day tournaments if they take a loss. Typically a couple guys hit it at the Keystone Classic at some of the deeper weights.

Let me add 6 matches in a day is.....
incredibly hard. I think 3 full 7-minute matches in a day is difficult enough, anything more starts to really dig deep into the gas tank and is playing with injury fire IMO.

Jax isn't going the full 7 with many people at the Messiah Open

The dual is on Sunday so he could theoretically do both

I think he will wrestle at Messiah Open which is near his parents' house.
I believe that is why he chose an Open this weekend. Disappointing but understandable to get home for a couple days.

Still no team registered for Jax at Messiah (No OSU or Cowboy RTC).

sounds like he's home sick already. He should just transfer to Blacksburg,
which will be much closer than Oklahoma and he and Bo can carpool together back home.

Idk
It would suck a bit for him to come here and not have a starting spot.

This post just gave me a thought...
Aren't Jax and Vega expected to go up to 141/149 next year? Bo and Jax in the same bracket....
H
Hikinghokie
5mo
That has crossed my mind a few times
I know at one point Jax was expected at 141, with the Raney bros at 133 and 149. I don't know how things may have changed since Vega emerged as a real contender. Would be a really crazy NCAA final. I also think there's a possibility of Blaze to 141 next year.

Sounds like a duck to me…
The patriot open is after the VT match if he needs to reach 15 matches. Beating back ups and redshirts while avoiding AS and Ayala sounds ducky to me

The open he's going to is driving distance to his hometown
I'm sure he's happy that he gets to stop by and see his family and DT miiiight be a little happy to not risk an undefeated record and let Seidel/Ayala get a look at him before Nationals. Seeding at 133 is going to be something to watch for sure

On the surface it makes sense for Ok State but still smells stinky
Forrest has only been in Oklahoma for about a month. If he’s that homesick already, he’s in for a long college career. In reality, it’s sorta brilliant by Taylor. By now Forrest and Figs have scrapped enough, so after AS smokes Figs, they’ll use the match for scouting purposes for the NCAA’s if they wrestle. Depending on the seeding Forrest might be a quarter match for a highly ranked guy.

He’s been in Oklahoma a lot more than just the last month.

Seems odd since he was in high school up until December some time

His family had an apartment or something in Stillwater for when he was
Training at the RTC. Rumor was he was there a lot.

Forrest could be a huge landmine in the bracket. Not sure how much help
Figs will be. "He grabbed my arm and then I got all dizzy and it was over" idk if he's simulating anything Jax doesn't already know lol

You are correct - Forrest will absolutely be a land mine
in the bracket. He could win it - wouldn’t surprise me.
H
Hikinghokie

Not only would it not be a surprise, he should be a favorite
He just took 5th in the world. Him and Blaze are the cofavorites based on their senior level success imo.

The funny thing is, there’s a possibility he doesn’t get the 15 matches
needed for the rpi. He’s 7-0 right now. There’s a possibility of 5 matches at the open and big 12 with a 17 total match ceiling. Byes and mffs are likely in both the open and conference tourney. Taylor has to know this.
T
TartanHokie

He will still be seeded very high. Meyer was 11-1 last year and got the 2.
D
donjfs3

He should be top 6 if he gets the win over Larkin
This year's 133 has a lot more depth than 157 last year. If he doesn't get a win over Larkin he ends up somewhere in the 8-10 range which is a crazy tough QF for whoever gets him.
E
emhokie
5mo
Agreed. Which makes the push to get the rpi ranking unbelievable
D
donjfs3
5mo
Yeah a 17 match ceiling isn't ideal in his scenario
He could theoretically go to two opens back to back if he doesn't get at least 4 at the first one but not sure if that's on DT's radar

Dude is elite. He just needs to wrestle the schedule and add an open if
Needed or wanted. I don’t think it matters what his seed is. He’s gonna wreck people either way.

I do not think he is ducking anybody.

Personally I think he doing what Taylor wants
Jax has wins o er Aaron so I don’t see him ducking. He is doing what Coach Taylor wants just like our guys do for Coach Robie
E

Agree it’s the coaches’ call. Didn’t mean him personally making the
decision. I just said it appears to be a duck. Sounds like it may at least be a possibility he may wrestle AS after all
N
NYC2000

But he has a huge history of ducking tough competition...
like wrestling in college opens as a high school freshman, in the Senior World Championships while still in high school, and re-classifying and wrestling in college rather than finishing his senior year in high school.

Ha! Great post - you get it! There is absolutely a 0% chance that Forrest
is ducking anyone - ever. He is elite and taken crazy challenges at every turn. He is following whatever Coach DT believes is best for setting him up for a Natty run. Note - I do believe Seidel can beat him.

And avoiding AS in what would be the match of the day in Blacksburg
How cool would it be if AS went to the same open as Forrest, ya know to get his match count up. ** Edited by emhokie at 2/10/2026, 6:11:48 PM

Good one. How does Seidel prepare to wrestle the bests at 133?
No matches help him much thru ACCs save with Jax.. Jordan Oliver maybe?
E

5mo
Great question
I don’t have inside knowledge but I say keep training the way he has been because it’s working I assume he rolls with Ventresca a lot which is a good thing since EV is so positionaly strong in neutral. He probably does roll with Oliver when he’s around and probably scraps with Henson too. I thought Henson was the most talented true freshman we’ve ever had. AS might be even better by the end of March. He’s improved so much since getting to VT. A win against Jax wouldn’t shock me at all, assuming Jax starts Sunday. Jax is uber talented and may have a perceived advantage from neutral but AS is an animal on top and could blow the match open quick. Go Hokies
