Posting History (1,042)

149 next season

If the reports are true that last year’s graduates get another year of eligibility and Mendez is coming back at 149, that’s an insane weight class.
That’ll be 3 natty champs plus tons of other killas

The strategy to beating Vega is likely the same from the Haines vs BA match

Haines shot on BA, then BA sat the corner and got funky and pinned him. The pin didn’t get called but that was a pin! I digress. Haines survived but still shot again, but next time he lifted BA off the mat negating his funk. The Vega run last year was insane but he will not be that successful at 149 with a year for coaches to prepare for him. Another undefeated season without giving up a TD all season will not happen again. Hats off to him if he does it again and I’ll own that statement in March if he does. BA pinned Haines, and that’s the last time I’ll say it, at least for tonight. Go Hokies

There is a recent pic of JM

To me, he looks like he has trimmed down some vs the previous bulk job. If that’s what is happening, I think the more nimble and athletic version of JM is the best option especially with a full dose of Walz training.

The summer of 1987, maybe 1986

Stayed in the dorms ( no ac from memory) and walked to the convocation center thru the tunnel under I 81

Wrestlestat ranking updates

They now have CG slotted at 157 and NN at 165 Super salty line up!!! Not sure if the team tournament rankings reflect that likely change but we are looking really good. Toss in BB’s projected points and we can be on the verge of something very special next season. Go Hokies!!

Wrestlestat has him slotted at 133 for now

On another note, 149 has Vega, Henson and Valencia. It may have happened before but 3 natty champs in the same weight is insane. Add in other hammers like SVN, Ech, Joy etc and that’s shaping up to be one of the deepest weights next season. A bad draw and match or two, and there will be some really good guys not getting the podium for sure next season.

If I remember correctly, Sal got a TD in SV

My memory isn’t what it used to be but think this was a finals match at the hokie open in the Roanoke Civic Center. DC was pi$$ed and slung his headgear.

Gorman loses but NN wins

NN gets a Penn guy. The Penn guy won by dq over a teammate, be interested to know why

WTT question

If Caleb wins true 3rd at the senior level, is he eligible to be the U23 rep?

I’m off today and on the river fishing

If someone can post updates on our guys’ FS results it’d be appreciated Thanks

That makes sense

Guess that’ll be a factor the coaches will have to plan for at 157.

It might an open slot until January

If CG packs on some mass and doesn’t want to shirt, he’s probably gonna get the nod. Gorman is gonna be a good one and this might be his only realistic opportunity to start. Not sure if Weader can cut that much but might be in a similar situation as Gorman, start now or maybe never crack the line up.

Looks like Tampa Tom to Indiana

Hate to see him go but understandable and wish him all the best.

Dude is a legend, especially in FS

He’ll make an instant impact on the development in the room and connect with those blue chip recruits that have FS aspirations

A little birdie told me …

That he and JM know each other. Not sure that means much but it could evolve into something

Anybody know if Salem’s James is on our radar?

He’s a sophomore heavyweight who won states. He pinned everyone and also took 3rd in the NHSCA in the sophomore division. Dude is a physical specimen who reportedly has to cut to make weight after football season and by the eye test it’s not fat either. He has D1 football written all over him though and probably stands to get a big bag there. I think he’s about 6’5” right now and probably still growing

I’d assume this will dilute our Cliff Keen participation

and the scuffle too for starters I actually like the dual tournament format. Plus the multiple day weigh in against top competition is a good rehearsal for the ncaa tournament. The bonus points BB, CH and hopefully AS will throw up should make this team formidable in duals

Has Henson announced he’ll compete at the WTT?

I’m biased but he looked to be the better wrestler in the Ridge match. If he can make final X, Frayer will have a game plan for sure.

That dude who beat Colin Moore twice at the NCAA’s was short

Can’t remember his name but thought he was a Kent state dude but might be wrong

NN’s walking around weight?

Anyone know an estimated natural weight? Dude has the frame to add some mass and could likely do it fairly quickly at his age. Just thinking out loud mainly due to a previous post hoping he could make 157 next season and me wondering if he is hitting a growth spurt. If he could add strength to compete with upper echelon guys horsepower wise, maybe 165 is an option 157 is likely his optimal slot at this point but it’s an interesting consideration that could either insert CG or a highly level 157 portal guy. Good problem to have

Is Church rumored to be leaving?

Weader is definitely an option at 165 if church leaves and would challenge at 165 even if he stays. Weader had a pretty good redshirt year and had a high bonus rate. Not sure if he beat any high ranked dudes off the top of my head though but he’s a legit starter threat and should make the normal level jump after a shirt year

Dang. He’d be perfect for us at 84

I’d pass on him vs possibly putting RB riding the pine. Agree 65 for RB would be nice but not sure that’s the best slot for him

There is a post on the intermat forum that a big name will hit the portal

Not sure if it’s credible but 184 Smith was mentioned along with others. Guess we will know soon enough If true, hope we have a shot with Smith

Looks like Dailey to the pack. I believe it was posted he was

a potential portal target at 184. ** Edited by emhokie at 4/14/2026, 3:46:25 PM
