They lost a chunk of talent from last year's team.
They've got some good pieces but many of them are a bit unproven. They'll be looking for some of their young guys to make a jump.

It will, just a matter of timing.
Many big donors give in the form of stocks because of the tax implications. Have to imagine some are holding out for more growth first.

As explosive as Jimmy is I think Ty's HC could really elevate his offense.
Jimmy is already pretty versatile. Adding another attack, and one where he's not diving under his opponent, could really open up his scoring potential. Opponents already have to worry about his upper body throws and trips.

He showed a lot of ability to get to legs and takes a lot of shots.
I like his style a lot and it typically translates well to NCAAs. If he can convert a few more into takedowns against tough opponents he's an AA contender for sure.

I remember the Paulsons because Dresser accused them of tampering.
I think Garland is safe until their Athletic Department starts to care about wrestling. They get limited institutional support so that would have to change for it to be worth changing coaches.

I think the Pitt coaches are much more competent than UVA's.
I think a lot of people respect Keith Gavin.

Thanks for the update. Gorman must have dropped down.
I think Aedon Sinclair did the same thing. Was originally entered at 92kg but dropped down to 86kg

I'd be hesitant to fire the money cannon at him given his injury history.
Just look at what happened with Rocky Elam at Iowa State. Kept him on a pitch count all year and he still didn't AA.

I don't think he actually has eligibility left.
I'm pretty sure he tried to find a spot last year but had no takers because nobody thought he'd be eligible. I think I heard he's appealing but it seems unlikely to work out.

It is interesting to see him at 65kg.
If that's close to his natural size the minimal weight cut could be advantageous. Not as big of a factor for worlds compared to the Olympics where there are less weight classes.

"I told you last week there is going to be a big position open in the ACC"
"I'll just say it. One at Pitt, one at Tech." Go listen to the podcast next time. He implied it was a big program in the ACC last week aka Tech.
I think BA makes the most sense as a resident athlete if he wants to keep competing, which he does. I suspect it'll be more impactful than that.

I doubt DC is ready to compete next season so I don't think he'll transfer.
He was in a neck brace just last week. I expect that he will get a year back either for this one or next. Depending on how the line up shakes out he might slot right in after next season.

Stanford might lose a few key guys to graduation.
If they can't get into grad school they have to go somewhere else.

Once Noah was locked in for a redshirt he started adding size.
If he grows a bit more he could make 165. I think he was over 160 by the end of the season. I doubt we see him down at 149 again.

That's certainly possible. Depends on how guys grow during the off-season
Hard to project this early

Henson 149, Gaj 157, Ninninger 157/165, Burton 174, Desiante 184
If Noah gets a bit bigger he can go 165

I think Noah Ninninger is going to be 157 or maybe even 165 next year.
DC might be on the shelf for a season getting bigger to fit into the lineup.

That year was wild for ACC at 125. 3 guys seeded in the 20s won round 1.
Then Cardinale from WVU (ODU) placed 8th as the 28 seed.

The Kabuki Theater around redshirting Forrest is so tired
They were never burning the other guy's redshirt and Richie Figueroa wasn't even going to qualify for NCAAs.

Willie and Basch think he could end up as high as the 3 seed.
That MD over Novak at National Duals is a big help.

I can totally see why anybody would argue he won't AA.
I just think his offensive output is trending in the right direction lately and he's a savvy veteran. It would be a bigger surprise for him to finish above 5th at NCAAs than lose in the bloodround which is wild for a two-time finalist.

The schedule disparity for Illinois is crazy. Affected Kannon Webster too.
I'll be interested to see how Byrd does against the freshman. Can he slow down the more offensive guys and get the win? I'd love to see him vs Forrest or Seidel.

Seidel, Forrest, Blaze, Davino, and Larkin. I think Byrd and Ayala AA too.
Final spot is a toss up to me. Knox is ranked higher but I'd lean towards Van Dee or Serrano. I put Ayala in because I think he's wrestling pretty well even if he took a beating against Forrest.

Evan Frost is out for the postseason and withdrawn from Big12 Tournament.
That's one less top guy in the bracket at 133. I don't think he would have been seeded ahead of a 1-loss Seidel unless he was the Big12 champ.

I agree. Stout and Posada are both very challenging matchups.
I expect Sonny to draw Stout in the semis. I think 149 is a toss up. Hopefully Gaj has been able to get his lungs blown out a bit this week and his ankle's feeling good.

Excellent interview. Y'all did a great job.
It sounded very prepared with good questions. Your effort shows.

Don't forget about Gorman.
He showed a lot of potential this year and I think he'd be very competitive with Campbell next season if they wrestled for a spot.

Here's a couple questions for you
What does the Virginia Tech coaching staff do that works so well at getting wrestlers to peak in March?
Is there a concerted effort to encourage wrestlers to be more offensive or is coaching more about optimizing their style and where they are comfortable?
