Pitt got a 3 million dollar donation for wrestling
I like our staff better to do more with the money we're getting, but that's a donor that wants to be competitive up there.

With that said it went to probably the least concerning team excluding Duke. I guess an argument could be made for UVA as well but I digress. Pitt can pay who they want but they’re not going to get the pick of the litter in their recruiting. They’re sandwiched between tOSU and Penn State they may start popping up in top threes and fives but they don’t have the track record to beat the Big 10. It should be a very similar climb to what we’ve been doing for the past 10 years and by that time the goalposts will be moved again.

I think a lot of people respect Keith Gavin.

the team as a whole is terrible. They scored 1/2 point at the NCAAs and Garland can't seem to recruit anyone of relevance. They can't even pull quality grad transfers from the portal and that's with being able to offer a master's degree from UVA. I'd bet a lot that next season is his last season.
Heck, I couldn't even name one assistant coach over there without googling and I follow college wrestling pretty hard. I forgot the Paulsens are still there.

I think Garland is safe until their Athletic Department starts to care about wrestling. They get limited institutional support so that would have to change for it to be worth changing coaches.

If UVA cared about Wrestling, Garland would have been gone three years ago. What UVA likes about Steve is….. uber-religious, will never ask for a raise, is a very nice man, and team GPA will always be great. He is a man of extremely high morals, and never has had any negative PR in his career at UVA.
