One thing I noticed was Marsteller in the corner with Frayer for Seidel. I know Seidel and Gaj both trained at his club in high school but is he actually around the program any? This is also more of a joking side-note than anything but Frayer should definitely bring back the beard.

It should be a very similar climb to what we’ve been doing for the past 10 years and by that time the goalposts will be moved again.

Out of bounds, no takedown and a restart. You could’ve and should’ve hit him for stalling but he’s winning 2-2 with 4 seconds left in that situation.

Mac left the mat. When he’s in the splits defending before being pulled back in he’s off the competition mat. That’s a stoppage and a restart and no takedown.

With that said though tOSU/PSU starts at 7 to fill the time.

I think bringing in a team on the same tier as Tech, like we’ve done with Mizzou, for the Moss match is a great way to introduce new people to the sport.

They recently updated their 2027 class rankings and wouldn’t you know it, as it currently stands, Virginia Tech has the #1 recruiting class in the country.

Bo is just avoiding the Big 10. God forbid the Tech, Pack, Mizzou, Cornells of the world even challenge the big 10 and Okie State regardless of the nearly identical schedules we wrestle.

Massoma Endene is a 3x D3 national champion and is using his last year to wrestle 97 for Iowa. He may fall a little closer to Emmett Wilson in this comparison but it’ll be interesting to see.

Caleb could’ve expended an insane amount of energy trying to keep Ridge, who not only is probably the best top wrestler in the country, the best reversal artist in the country down. He chose to go where he’s won in the past and it didn’t work out. Also he did not have a takedown the JO rule was written for that exact position he pops his head out to the side it’s 3 every day and twice on Sunday. He didn’t and here we are.

The right guy won but, there is still a lot of variability in whether it’s called in that spot.

That match followed the exact same script as last year until Ridge picked bottom instead of top. That was the safest strategy to win that match with how dangerous Ridge is from both top and bottom. Caleb just couldn’t get it done on his feet this match.

Those are what are referred to as advancement points. All places are assigned a point value at NCAAs these are called placement points: 1=16, 2=12, 3=10, 4=9, 5=7, 6=6, 7=4, 8=3. This is where you’re going to see giant jumps in team scores because they automatically award you points for your lowest possible place. That’s why Tech had such a huge jump in the semis everyone who made the finals has been awarded second place points. At NCAAs this jump is going to happen after the quarters when the semifinalists are awarded 6th place points. Lastly, bonus points, unlike in dual meets a pin is not worth 6 points. A regular decision you would only receive your advancement points, for a major decision you receive the advancement point plus one extra point, a tech fall is worth your advancement point and an extra 1.5 points, and lastly any type of stoppage be it a pin, disqualification, forfeit, or injury default is worth the advancement point and two extra points.

But as a fan of wrestling Gallagher-Iba is about as close to a wrestling mecca as you can get.

I know it probably comes from his BJJ background but to be that comfortable in a crab ride as a freshman is crazy.

I’d be willing to bet that is a Strittmatter thing. As far as I know he is a young guns kid and Jody Strittmatter, while being and assistant at UPJ, runs young guns. With that said I love the color scheme he used this week.

Which should be pretty exciting. The kid is a stud.

According to Tony Ramos’s media rant following Olympic team trials he was heading here in 2016 as an athlete for the SERTC. He’s been running the Hawkeye Wrestling Club and with Brands on a hot seat it might be time to jump ship again.

When the extra year was announced the only possibilities I recall having an opportunity to do it were Mekhi, Yianni, and if a true freshman won that year. Carter and AJ Ferrari both won, Mekhi got hurt, and Yianni took an Olympic redshirt. Obviously, Carter can do it now but to answer your question it depends on how you count NCAA titles. Carlton Haselrig technically won 6 NCAA titles during his career because at that time the NCAA allowed the finalists from D2 into the NCAA D1 tournament. Haselrig would go on to win 3 D2 titles at Pitt-Johnstown enter the D1 tournament and win 3 D1 titles. So yes and no is the answer it really depends on if you count them individually or not.

Carter has been pretty vocal about not using his covid year though
