only thing currently holding the ACC together. I doubt that most schools see the ACC as a viable choice. Unless Disney steps in and offers the ACC a lifeline, the ACC will live in mediocrity until the league finally dissolves into oblivion.

I just like these schools and would like to see VT playing games along the I4 corridor. It won’t happen though. I want regional rivalries. to ignore. They will crank out tens of thousands of alumni in the next decade, they are in fertile recruiting areas, and the Tampa and Orlando metro area population is growing exponentially. USF just needs to get a better coach - they've really whiffed on some lately.

The hard cold fact is that only an increase in media money for all ACC schools will justify expansion. The media contract may, or may not, include language about how new members get paid: by sharing the current payout pool, which decreases per team payout; or by pro rata, which adds another full share to the total payout pool. Neither case provides the help needed. Notre Dame may be the only addition that would increase the per team payout, but even that will not get The ACC within sniffing distance of the P2.

ONe thing ESPN wants to protect its investment. They have never upfront so much $$$$ to establish the ACCN. They have yet to get a return of their investment and if they walk huge cost for ESPN. They will do what is necessary to protect their investment. They are in discussions about how to increase ACC right fees, to keep schools 'right'.... Closed door again. The comments I just read on this now small thread make me even less likely to think ESPN will ever do that. I remember reading several years ago that ESPN was losing money with the SECN being their only real salvation as a cash cow. Are schools now within the Big 12 going to withdraw from the Big 12 which may soon being getting Pac schools that could provide substantial raises in soon to be negotiated Big 12 TV contracts to enter the ACC that binds them to a GOR wrapped around a bad TV contract until 2036? Those are the realities that any Big 12 school would be knowledgeable on. That GOR contract protects the ACC but also prohibits getting other P5 schools not desiring becoming attached to that ACC GOR.

In a big interview he cited. 1; ACC is VERY important to ESPN, they have invested heavy into the ACC with the Network, and they see ACC basketball is the SEC of college basketball. They are invested for them to succeed. 2. They are in talks with ACC on 'creative way's to increase revenue/rights... (they are being cryptic, but its clandestine) 3. ACC has hired a consulting firm, who expertise is adjusting TV rights for conferences. (The folks are ESPN executives who have retired). interesting........ ACC is not sunk... but ACC is not going to discuss this in the media environment, nor is any leaks will be made..
