I found this analysis in the WSJ interesting.

Note that this is about 4 years old data from academic study of the Business Value of College Football programs.
The Top 3 ACC teams are Clemson, FSU and VT ranked 26-28. Lots of BIG 10 and SEC teams rated lower than these 3, ex - MD @51, Purdue @54, Kentucky @31, Miss State @35, Missouri @56, Vandy @61.

Is at the top of the list. Market, potential and tv ratings.

average folks have no say on this.
The Media boardrooms feel Miami is it.. nothing no one can do

3 things about Miami
1, They are not AAU. So the B1G will likely not be interested.
2. The SEC already has the state of Florida. And I think the SEC also despises them in a cultural sense.
3. The B1G hesitating to add Washington to me speaks volumes about what the direction is. Now, take this into consideration. Seattle has a population of 741k to Miami's 461k. UW is one of the great venues in college football and has an avid fan base. UM doesn't have an on campus stadium, and has attendance problems in Joe Robbie Stadium.
I'd be shocked if the P2 went after Miami in any way. Let the U be "back" for 5 years, then maybe I'll change my mind.

Have not been relevant in football going on a couple decades now. Not exactly a solid resume.

Reality is their program has been hanging onto 2001 since they fired Larry Coker and the only reason they're even in the discussion anymore is because of NIL and John Ruiz literally funding their entire athletic department.
If Cristobal translates that into top 10 seasons for the next few years they'll get way more valuable, but the Miami market is nowhere near a cash cow, just look at the pro team ratings outside of when the Heat had Lebron.

The sec experience would be downgraded playing in a stadium with 10k people at Dolphins arena

Miami metro- over 6 million potential viewers
seattle metro- just over 4.
I lived in South Florida and while there were a lot of FSU and UF fans...there were a lot of people who followed and watched the Canes. Didn't mean they all went to the games but they definitely knew what was going on.

That was back when Miami was at the peak of their football "backness." They won their last national championship around that time. I walked into bars all over the city, and never saw a Cane fan watching a game. I saw fans from almost every other P5 fanbase east of the Mississippi, and several from the other side, but no Canes.
They can't fill their own stadium, send maybe 100 fans to road games, and people think they are a great program to add? They are a great example of a "smoke and mirrors" program built on hookers and blow...lol

this article? Miami doesn’t fill their NFL stadium, like Pitt. They are number two in their own stadium. It’s not the population that matters, it’s the number of fans, and they don’t pull them in the stands or TV.

If VMI played #1 Ohio State they would likely draw more total eyeballs than if VT played UNC.
It's not representative of the value of VMI, but instead is the value of Ohio State. The questio is how many people watched VMI verse Ohio State compared to how many people watched Indiana verse Ohio State. You will find your answers very quickly. A better model would be to look at Ohio States schedule and rank the opponents 1 to 13 based on viewership. Then, chart it over a season across all team schedules and find out who is really adding value.
Of course, you have time slots, network, etc so it's hard to do a true analysis.

Weak schedule and bad team lead to those numbers...
I remember 2 or 3 games were on a RSN where half the fans couldn't watch the game. The USC/UCLA numbers weren't that impressive either. Army and Navy are on CBS Sports every Saturday, plus they have the traditional rivalry game which is the college football game on television that afternoon.
