It would be a very tempting proposition, but I don’t know how the politics would work. I remember how crazy it got during 2003 and I imagine it would be similar. Does anyone think this is a possibility down the road and how it might work out, I know there’s no correct answers but just looking for peoples thoughts.

Is a lot of politics involved and realignment. Going to be a lot of unhappy constituents. If their in-state rival gets a bid to a power to conference and they get left to play in the minor leagues. I just see this whole thing falling apart so fast I’m not sure there’s any other way it could be fixed. But what do I know?

Do you know upsets do happen all the time in basketball. I think Pittsburgh beat Duke at Duke last year. There’s hundreds of games like that in college basketball every year. It’s hardly a predictor of success for the rest of the year.

To be shooting less than he did last year. Perhaps it’s just me, but it appears he’s not the offensive threat that he was a year ago. Is it a new offence/system or is he just under performing? He’s so valuable that we need his contributions.

Any real competition near the top of the table. We’ve got the same thing now in college football. Will Stewert even wrote an article on it a while back. There’s no salary caps, draft, contracts in college football but we do have free agency and ways to pay players. The most recently successful schools became elite more popular and just get richer. It’s kind of a sad state.

Cheating. And don’t forget about the good old cam newton scandal. The only thing now is it’s all above board. Nick Savin is literally bragging about how much money his players can make at SEC media day. Ln just sent of all people is the only person who seems to be pointing out that and I L was never supposed to be Used as a recruiting tool. Like you I think this thing is going to go off the cliff soon. ESPN will kill the Golden goose, that being a nation of college football fans who it one time or another had hoped that their school could have a season like 1999. Those days are over and people will tune out slowly but surely once they realize they’re watching the equivalent of the NIT for college football. Ratings are going to drop, bowl games will disappear, and eventually the money will dry up.

In this mess and make his voice heard. They’ve been getting rich handover fist with a free minor-league system for close to a century. They need to work with the colleges the way the NBA has worked with colleges as well. There’s no reason they can’t do something with their collective bargaining agreement to help fix this wild west mentality.

Several years in terms of making us attractive in the event of the ACC dissolving? If we can get back to becoming competitive for the ACC of the next 3 to 4 years, and somehow, although I doubt it, find a way to become a player with NIL, How much does that improve our chances of ending up in a super conference.? My pet peeve is that I just can’t see Virginia Tech ever having the money to pay players the way Texas schools, SEC schools, Miami or other schools are willing to pay. I believe I saw somewhere that Alabama paid their players $3 million last year and Texas Tech is guaranteeing each of their hundred players 25,000 each? Miami is apparently getting ready to line their recruits pockets as well. Do we stand a chance with our alumni base? What’s the best we could ever hope for at Virginia Tech? Paying players $1000 a year? Four star recruits more than that? I have no clue at all. It is really disillusioning. But I’m not sure how many ACC schools I can see doing that either.

Our fan support and TV viewership is far above theirs. Half of their sports are not even played at the college level in the SEC. And I’m talking about sports like soccer. In the Big Ten? That’s a conference that already has Rutgers Maryland and Northwestern to fill that void why would you add Virginia? Especially if it’s football driven. UVA has not been relevant in football since the early to mid 90s? I just don’t get it

All. And they are at best, and I mean it best a 500 program over the long term. Little of any fan support, they’re not a great TV draw. They are a good basketball and baseball school but I would imagine that 2/3 of their sports are not even played in the SEC. The Big Ten already has Maryland and Rutgers, why add another school like that? How many more doormats do you need? They certainly do not fit the SEC profile and the Big Ten already has Northwestern, Rutgers and Maryland so what would Virginia add? I don’t think much of anything. But everything I read claims that they are one of the “top 4” schools Along with Clemson, Florida State and North Carolina being covered by other conferences. I can see Clemson and North Carolina but I have questions about the other two.

But what am I missing about the last school listed above. I have no great hatred or animosity to the University of Virginia. I realize they have a very established program for most sports, wonderful reputation for academics, they are accomplished in basketball and baseball, but is this not a football driven expansion? I don’t think UVA checks that box on the field. Fan support? You can leave that box empty. TV viewers? I might not know enough about it but I can’t see how they would deliver more than us with our heavy population in northern Virginia. I guess I’m just a little curious why they are listed so universally as one of the top four? Wouldn’t that be a little bit like Vanderbilt or perhaps Northwestern being listed as one of the top four in their conference? I’m just not sure what they would bring to any football expansion more than our own school would? Again I’m no expert so I’m just asking. I’m well aware that they have a great reputation overall as a school but are they looking to be the new Rutgers or Maryland or Vanderbilt in the next round of expansion? Someone help me out. Thanks

Simple question of giving the teams another 10% of what they would’ve gotten so that when Vanderbilt is making 90 million a year, VT & Clemson will be making, IDK, maybe 60? Or will it perhaps be based on adding a couple of teams like West Virginia or Cincinnati? Or will it be uneven? So that the big revenue producers like Clemson, Florida State and ourselves will make more than BC, Duke and Syracuse? (And yes, we are listed at around the number 27 or 28th richest program in college football ). Has there been any chatter about that? I’d appreciate anybody’s input if they’ve heard anything at all. Feeling now. If only we had kept our football program at a higher level we might be more attractive to the SEC. But right now, it looks like even Duke is more attractive to us in the alignment wars. Clemson, North Carolina, Florida State, Miami, Virginia, Duke, perhaps Georgia Tech, NSCU all seem like they have better chances of finding a new home than us. It makes me nauseous to see UVA /Duke ahead of us in a football driven expansion but the Big Ten likes their academics. The SEC likes football and Clemson, UNC, FSU, and Miami seem to be ahead of us. This is depressing

Nothing in a football driven expansion. UNC yes. Duke? Please. BIG10 SEC have Vandy, Rutgers, Maryland already. What a joke. Miami and FSU add 0 to the SEC. TRadition? Sure. But markets? Fla is SEC territory already and both programs have fallen off worse than us. Clemson and UNC are the two jewels

After Clemson. It’s a football driven decision first and market decision closely second. North Carolina opens up the entire Charlotte market, and is considered a sleeping giant in football. Virginia Tech could possibly Leah claim to the Virginia market and Northern Virginia market and has a far better football tradition than UVA. But it’s a reach. I see them going after Clemson and North Carolina only. If they have to go after two more, it’s a free-for-all.

New football contract? Absolutely nothing. They want Notre Dame, then perhaps Oregon or Washington. They would like North Carolina perhaps. They’ve already gotten Maryland. Virginia with that nothing with football geographically or in terms of football prestige. Why cut that pie into another slice for schools like that. It makes no sense.

Where are the SEC and the Big Ten absorb the rest of the teams of the ACC. It’s just not gonna happen. It makes no sense for those conferences to add more than two, or perhaps four teams each. What does Duke or Virginia add to a football TV contract? For the SEC or the Big Ten? Absolutely nothing. And remember this is football driven.

It doesn’t make sense for these conferences to add any more teams than that. Why would they? Florida State and Miami have been a relevant in football for sometime and don’t bring new markets. Florida is already SEC country. North Carolina brings a new market great basketball and a potential sleeping giant in football. I’m sorry Florida State fans but you don’t bring anything but tradition and tradition doesn’t get you a slice of that $95 million a year pie. The Big Ten will get Notre Dame in Oregon. People thinking that Duke, UVA are going to the Big Ten are probably mistaken. This is a football move . They already have doormats schools like Rutgers and Maryland. Again why split the money two more times?

I’m not sure I can buy the talk of 30 team super conferences. I’m not sure I can believe that either of the Big Ten or a SEC go past 18 teams. (for heaven sake‘s, why? At some point it’s counterproductive in terms of competition and money) . We’ve already seen the Big Ten stiff arm Oregon & Washington (waiting on Notre Dame). Most insiders say the SEC only covet Clemson. And perhaps North Carolina which would expand into a new market. Sorry Florida State fans. Hypothetically let’s say Notre Dame does go to the Big Ten, they take Oregon as well? The SEC tries to poach Clemson and North Carolina. Does that create another NEW division of football that we belong in with schools like Georgia Tech, Arizona, Texas Tech, Pittsburgh, Louisville, Miami, Baylor, Virginia NC State, Washington, etc.?

Fine now and don’t need more than a few more teams max. Why split the money 6 more ways? Clemson , UNC, ND, UVa & UM are the main ones for four spots. The Big Ten is telling Oregon and Washington to sit still. Please stop dreaming of 30 team conferences.
