City of Alexandria officially kills Potomac Yard deal for the Wiz and Caps
Monumental Sports is expected to release a similar statement soon...acknowledging that the deal is dead.

Ted must be furious

Here's the artist rendering of what the District proposed to Ted last year
Apparently...they are giving Monumental a renovated arena...and a large section of the Gallery Place complex to redevelop.

It's really incredible how universally bad AI artwork is

That's bad. Now VA is more likely to go all-in of new Commies stadium.
Which will be far more expensive and more importantly, way too close to my house.

Good. The economic benefits are always overstated and the cost is under
stated. They include construction jobs that are temporary, and in reality, the construction of a stadium like this strains the construction market, which raises costs and delays schedules for everyone else. They also include part-time seasonal jobs, such as concession workers.

Is Loudon County an option?

I really hope not.

DC reinstating Chinatown?
What's going on down there to make the caps need to leave?

All of DC is a shiRthole these days
We go to about 6 Caps games and the TSO Christmas concert every year. Chinatown/Gallery Place is going downhill fast like the rest of DC. There is no reason to invest in DC anymore.

…I will bring you down to Chinatown

Maybe Ted can move the Caps to Lexington KY. Just disband the Wizards

P’town reps shut it down.

P'town is the only town baby!

Da Governor going to get his Lucas vengeance by keeping them tolls too
Poor P-town. Low tax base, good chunk of federal property, and a truly dysfunctional city government. Commodore Theater rocks though!

As a Fairfax County resident I am very happy- already had my tax $ ^^^^

Well spoken rationalization that stuck it to Richmond. NoVA at its best.

We rule! Srsly though, I don't want my tax $ to fund a billionaire's toy.

Virginia seems very similar to Ny in the 90s
All the focus on growth was in the city and upstate started to rot. Its compounded since the.except a respite during Covid. The response by ny state was to bring jobs to the upstate through casinos and prisons. But most of the legislative funding went to the city. Seems like Virginia has that going on now or at least it appears so to me with much of the funding going to nova instead of rova. ** Edited by GreenvilleVT at 3/27/2024, 4:56:25 PM

Not sure I understand your statement
The money to NOVA for the deal was rejected, but you are saying in NY the money flows to NYC. And btw, in Virginia more tax money leaves NOVA than flows in.

Just like more people are leaving than moving in, presuming they're
border-certified?
T
turkeywinghokie
Well I am certified- at least from a mental standpoint
When the work thing is over I will likely leave due to the taxes and too many people, but the job market keeps me here for now haha Like my neighborhood and I do not deal with traffic much so no real complaints (except taxes!)

Without data, these are just unimportant "feelings". Speaking of
anecdotes and feelings, my entire adult life I've heard from some that NoVA gets disproportionately too much funding and from others, just the opposite, that NoVA subsidizes the rest of the state. Frankly, people need to go Jerry Maguire on the subject or STFU. #showmethemoney

2019 article on Loudoun County
I get it as we do not want the lower populations to not have the roads, etc.... but Richmond also needs to make sure they keep the economic engine of NOVA funded as needed
