There goes a one-week news cycle. Fascinated with the fascination of
British Royalty that happened to come out a special uterus or of otherwise of no importance. Of course, Prince William's rumored fetish for pegging is always good reading.

You don't understand why the death of a ruler who was 96 years old and had
been in power for 70 years leading her country and subsequently the world through a variety of challenges would be newsworthy? We're not talking about a Kardashian dying here. This is literal history and if there were ever someone who deserved all the tributes she is going to get it's Queen Elizabeth. Just an amazing woman who was basically the foundation of her country for 70 years.

Wow. I actually agreed with one of your posts! Truly an historic day! 🤣

I get that it is many who take it that way. I just never liked the
concept of paying tribute to a king or queen. She is a billion-dollar tourist attraction figurehead, not a ruler. France got it right on that one and I imagine the founding fathers would have probably been having a toast at their landed gentry plantations. She and her brode of misfits are exactly as relevant to me as a Kardashian I like the analogy. Historically Elizabeth I, I could see the great hoopla because of her leadership and defeat of the Spanish Armada. Beth II is a distant cousin descedant 100s of years later.

A born American will probably never get it, but the monarch of England
is a national symbol. The Queen (or, now, King) is revered as a symbol, not for anything particular that they do. She is treated more like we treat our flag than like an actual ruler. We whine, complain, and fight amongst ourselves over anything political in this country. But wave a flag, and most Americans still respect and revere what that flag stands for, even if we've gotten pretty bad at living up to what it stands for. I get the sense that's kinda what QEII was. A figurehead that represents all that is good and right about Britain, and something all Brits can agree on. Her job was to hold the country together no matter how much internal disagreement and strife there was. And for that, she probably did it better than anyone possibly could.

You're pretty clueless about the history and importance of this form of
government that was a fundamental precursor to the United States. See: Magna Carta. Kardashians? Are you already drunk? ** Edited by PhotoHokieNC at 9/8/2022, 5:04:02 PM

She represented the best of what a leader can be.
She was a voice of calm and reassurance in times of turmoil. With dignity and grace. I'm not particularly a fan of the British monarchy. And it's a rather antiquated ceremonial position. But no one can or will fill her shoe's. Last of her kind. RIP

Antiquated in terms of a nearly 1300 year line of succession.

Meant with nothing but respect: She was one tough broad
She always kept that British "stiff upper lip" and never did anything but uphold the ideals of the British royalty..... maybe not the rest of her brood, but..... 70 years..... wow.
