Serious: what’s life been like for Brent Pry the last few days?
Sleeping better? Worse? Ruminating on questionable QB decisions (“Grant Wells?! Doh!”). Maybe he’s been on a bender (if the rumors are true)?

Probably long discussions with his financial advisor.

I wonder what was going on the last few days before the ODU game.
That should have been the easiest game to get the team motivated to play. 0-2 start. 1st home game lost. Coaches job clearly on the line. What was he saying to the team to get them ready for ODU? Looks like he had lost the locker room.

I just hope the remaining staff can get the locker room back.

Maybe relief at some level - after the Vandy game he had to
know it was just a matter of when the firing would happen - pretty clear at that point he wasn’t turning it around.

I could endure a pretty good amount of public scorn for $6M...
I mean, outside of the Mid-Atlantic area, who even knows who he is? He could pretty much live or travel anywhere without anybody even recognizing him. And in about 6 months nobody will care.

it's truly a win-win for these coaches....if you are successful, more money
, more prestige, more opportunities...and if you lose, you walk away with a fat departure check.

Sure he is not a happy camper.... but he could not have been after Vandy
Certainly there are enough pay with many zeros that he will get over it, but he failed. We all hate it when we fail in life. I do not feel sorry for him, but I am not rejoicing other than it was time to move on.

The last place he'd want to be is anywhere public in Blacksburg
He was booed heavily by students before the game on Saturday, and I've heard it's not been great for his kids either. I hope they've taken a few days away, turned the phones off and hung out without outside noise coming in.

Not good & I feel for him but struggles are intrinsic
He doesn’t have the luxury Fu had of knowing he gave it hell but fell short of expectations. Pry just failed because he’s not good at the job of HC with his career book ended by losses to ODU. That’s hard to live with if that’s what you really want out of life. Extrinsically he’s just fine. He’s going to eat and can retire to quiet life if he wants. Not too bad long term.

Listening to the Allman Brothers......Having...
Family meetings deciding where they want to live. Long discussions over beer and wine, talking about where to invest and what lifestyle they want to live. Perhaps a long family vacation. Perhaps a 75 foot yacht. Perhaps a mountain house in Switzerland. Perhaps they are island shopping. These are the problems 27 million dollars brings you. Tough times, but they will get through it, i'm sure. GO HOKIES! ** Edited by jonnyhawk at 9/15/2025, 4:56:13 PM

Might be camped out at his Smith Mountain lake house.
I was at my sisters house on the lake over the weekend - free place to stay when u was in VA for the ODU game. Her next door neighbor (a VT Fan) told me Pry has a house on the lake a mile or so down the road. Those houses aren’t cheap - but lake life is relaxing. Pry will be alright.

True this. Pry has a SML house just down the road from my parents.

Probably a sense of relief, especially having high expectations
put on him to succeed and trying to run a program with no experience. Pry is a good guy and will land another coaching position somewhere (not the head whistle though). He has money still coming in so he can take the opportunity to relax and regroup.

Sleeping horrible but oddly at peace from a stress level. How old are his
children? Grown?

Probably not great. I don't think anyone likes getting fired. Obviously he
won't be hurting financially but it's still not fun failing especially in such a public manner. Regardless I'm not sure why you feel the need to ask. He's not the coach anymore. No need to kick someone while they are down.

I feel bad for his kids. They'll have to be uprooted in the middle of the
school year unless they decide to stay around awhile. It can't be easy for them.

Yeah - was thinking the same thing.
Pry can retire \ take a break and find a high school HC job back in his hometown or something. But his kids have to be dealing with this very hard.

Yes, but I'd worry about millions of other kids.
Happens in the military all the time. Or any family where the parents need to move for promotion, employment, etc. Pry will make about $20M from VT? More than enough money to figure out the best-possible solution to housing, schools, etc.
