On the flipside, many of those losses were close games that could have resulted in much better record - but Pry needs to prove he's capable of winning them.

I think Whit has decided Mt. Pry is the hill he's going to die on. The offseason staff shakeup told me that Whit won't be the guy to hire the next coach. He's pushed all his chips in.
It takes a minute for a team to find its feet when a new staff comes in. There's not going to be any big "turnaround' in the w/l column in 2025. Whit expects that. I think Whit sees this as a reset for a coach that was WAY over his head when he came in, and he's been given at least a 2-3 year reset. This is Pry's second term.
I don't see Sands stepping in and canning Whit....I don't think he ever gave a rip about athletics, and now it's a money game.

No team has more 6-6 seasons since 2012 than Virginia Tech.
Our regular season records since 2012...
2012: 6-6
2013: 8-4
2014: 6-6
2015: 6-6
2016: 9-3
2017: 9-3
2018: 6-6
2019: 8-4
2020: 5-6
2021: 6-6
2022: 3-8
2023: 6-6
2024: 6-6
6-6 is easily the most common record there. We've done that seven times in the last 13 years. Or maybe you can say seven times in 12, since only 11 games were played in 2020 and we probably shouldn't count that season.
So 6-6 is a pretty decent bet.

where I believe we will win by more than one score. Every one-score game should be an assumed loss until Pry shows he can win close games.

season for Pry that would likely provide a solid proof of concept that the hires are headed in the right direction. So many new pieces on the roster and the coaching staff.

New schemes that could potentially get early wins, where historically have been losses and slow starts by Pry teams.
New key players, new coaching patterns/tendencies, and possibly a new identity in some respects (i.e. defensive looks/fronts, coverages, offensive plays/personnel/schemes). However, that doesn't necessarily translate to wins.
Does this new staff adjust better over the course of a game? Will the team have a new found level of intensity to start the season? We don't know anything yet, but I know Pry is trying to squeeze out wins earlier in the season rather than later.

Yep, agreed, the early season is really important.
Gotta take advantage of limited film early on. If we come out of the gates sluggish yet again then we're 0-2. And THEN the film would be out. Much better to be 1-1 or 2-0 before the film gets out. If we're 0-2 out of the gate, then we can probably all guess what will happen after that.

For a lot of reasons. Last years' loss was a hot mess. Our D did not prepare for Pavia, yet a lot of film was out there on him.
This year needs to be different. Failure not an option, as going 0-2 would be a big hole.

How hot will Pry's seat be if we start 0-2?
Or is he virtually guaranteed 2+ more seasons?

It's quite possible that coaching is just fine this season and we still land on 6-6. Will that be enough?

Yeah, that drum beat needs to continue until Pry starts winning one score games. Until then, scream it from the rooftops.
