This doesn't feel real...

First, Franklin got an absolute haul of a freshman recruiting class (in just two weeks), and we're now getting multiple 4* transfers, even talk of a 5* transfer? In addition, we're getting P4 transfers, not just Sunbelt guys. Someone pinch me. I know the bar is low after the last few years, but when you think about it, this feels unreal.

Interesting Reddit Thread Tracking Transfer Stats of 4 & 5 star QBs

28.1% Transferred after year 1 (100% of them in portal a 2nd Time) - 34.4% In Portal after year 2 (Subject to change) - 37.5% at original school - of those 37.5%, 41.67% are current starters (5 of 12) and 25% are projected starters - 70% of top 10 in Portal within 2 Years

Pop Watson/VT QB#1

I'm sad that Watson will be going into the portal because it seems like he had a lot of potential. I don't know why he didn't get any meaningful reps last season, but I hope he's able to find a good school. I think, in the right system, he could be a good QB. Who knows who'll we get out of the portal for QB1, but without our top 3 QBs (Drones, Watson, and Rangel), Franklin's going to have to completely reshape the QB room.

Techside Podcast out yesterday is worth your time

All, I listened to the pod yesterday and it made me want to run through a wall. It's definitely worth your time.

On top of this being an A+ hire, the timing of the hire is so important

There are so many openings right now and we aren't even at the end of the season. There is going to be a second and possibly third wave of openings. Aside from making a huge splash hire, we got off the carousel before it started spinning really fast. Franklin also gets a jumpstart on recruiting vs some of the other new coaches.

CFB reminds me of the music industry during the napster era

At some point, there will have to be some regulation. This is just nuts right now.

It seems too early to announce a new coaching hire

Assuming VT announces a new hire, it's too early in the season. Is he helping with prep for the FSU game?

I don't want a fired coach, but is Brian Kelly a possibility?

I think he's a terrible person, but he's been pretty successful. I don't think we can afford him, but I'm curious what everyone thinks.

Glass Half Full View of UNC (for Hokies)

The obvious cons for VT this year are: 1) It looks like UNC is going to be able to remove Bill Belichick with a minimum buyout 2) We are probably going to be competing against UNC for a new head coach 3) We didn't get a chance to beat Belichick However, the upside is that we will always remember that UNC rolled out the red carpet for BB, and invited Michael Jordan to come and watch an unranked TCU team completely destroy them on primetime tv.

Possible OC Replacements According to SI

Some of these are absolute stretches (Rahne & Moorhead): Link

I'm not against Quinn as DC, but it looks desperate waiting then promoting

internally. It looks like we waited so long and got rejected. And if he is getting rejected, its because he's already on the hot seat.

Anyone else concerned about the quality of portal players?

I see we are signing players for University of Central Missouri (D2); Wingate (ddn't know they had a team); Hampton, etc. I get that we had Tuten as a diamond in the rough, but there is a huge difference between D2 and Power 4 football. It feels like the quality is dropping and VT doesn't have the allure to recruit guys like it once had.

Tayvion Robinson

I don't blame him for leaving, especially for an SEC team (although both Kentucky and VT finished 7-6 this year). He never surpassed his VT stats, but he was a solid option for Kentucky. I'm happy for him.
