Over Schutt's last 14 games, he only averaged 4.57 ppg, and that includes a 15-point outing against Wake in the season-ender (so, 3.77 ppg in the 13 games before that).
So if Hull averages 5 ppg, he'll be a straight-up replacement for Schutt.
Yes, I know we're talking about a player in the ACC vs. a player in the CAA.

You can feel confident this player is all VT could afford with the funds available and needing to save some for another big and/or a SF.

or just more pot stirring? Of course he isn't replacing Schutt .He will help fill out practices, in this day of pay for play we are not going to pay 12 guys, much less 15 which is roster size.
