VT MBB coach?
There has been NO FORMAL announcement the status of the current VT Head MBB coach. My question is WHY nothing from the athletic department has been reported. I realize that CMY has 1 year remaining on his current contract, but that still doesn't answer the question of his coaching status at VT.
The longer this goes on the more rumors that will be out there on the TSL message board and social media.
I have seen no current VT MBB player stating they are going in the transfer portal when it officially opens.
IMHO, I believe VT MBB needs a complete reset. VT MBB still does not have a GM.
There are a number of important questions that need to be addressed and resolved.

And every coach knows that. So, unless you're willing to pour some money into the basketball program, you are not going to be able to attract a quality coach. Our current financial investment in basketball makes it unlikely that a new hire would be an improvement, and possibly a step back. A lot of fans have been calling for VT to focus finances onto the football program, even at the expense of other programs, in order to try to get a P2 invite. It seems like men's basketball is being sacrificed for the sake of football. With that being the state of the men's basketball situation, I'm not really excited about trying to hire a new coach under those circumstances. The athletic department seems to be of the same mindset. If we are not at a place where we can compete financially for our next basketball coach, then it doesn't make sense to enter the market for a new coach. The big question is how long before Virginia Tech can afford to properly fund men's basketball? We have financial limits, and football seems to be taking us to those limits.

The basketball program really doesnt have leadership right now- sorry. I have zero clout and probably will just cash a few more pay checks and then be out of here. Any new prospective coach knows the program is rudderless until a new AD is in place and will not really have adequate resources to begin competing with ACC level programs so good luck attracting anyone with a pulse . Again I'm sorry. The school went way above my paygrade (finally) to seriously commit to try and save the football program I helped almost destroy. My bad again. So there is no ability to go back to the well for basketball right now. Maybe my new replacement will have the gonads to try , but I'm a Eunuch (it's not that bad really). As to Coach Young , yeah yeah we extended him to 2075. Ha ha. Of course the school can buy it out at any time with just a 2 week Cruise to the Caribbean for Mr and Mrs Young. So yeah we are 110% committed to him until we aren't. But he gets this and just wants to put away a few more dollars to max out Social Security benefits in a couple of years. I call that a win win. So let's all play our respective roles- coaches ADs players fans and enjoy the 26-27 season. And dont forget to give.

I believe it was a question that Mark Berman asked him in GA at the ACC WBB Championship and I believe WB said he has another year on his contract and that he is the coach.
I have NOT seen any FORMAL announcement made by the athletic department.
I'm not indicating that CMY won't be back next year, but it is not a good idea to have a lame duck coach, his current contract I believe runs to March 15, 2027.
To many questions in limbo!

Said he was going to check the portal...but didn't say it was for UK.

Or similar so it’s all year to year totally transactional relationships.
Most players probably don’t care if Mike is going to be renewed.

If he were actually a lame duck coach. They've been able to tell recruits that he has an extension beyond next year. They've certainly been able to tell donors that as well.
I think MY retires before any changing of the guard is made on his future regardless, but thats secondary to the current situation. Everyone who needs to know already knows he isnt going into next year without a contract

I don't doubt you David, you have more insight than I do. Is his contract for one year or for multiple years?
I realize there are many factors pertaining to VT MBB in general, for example CMY's contract, coaching staff, support staff, GM, the roster and low and be hold total funds from VT and NIL.
Thanks for your response and I look forward to more insight from you and TSL staff.

If we decided to make a coaching change now, with most searches having been completed or near their latter stages, that would pretty insane.
Though I guess there is precedent, since we did that with Greenberg, haha.

Weaver and Greenberg weren’t the best combo together. Weaver already had been through a couple of major back surgeries due to his Parkinson’s and Greenberg was tired of being short-changed by Weaver in the compensation battles. It didn’t help that Greenberg’s wife didn’t like the area.
The conflicts led Greenberg to look around and his staff did the same. It all blew up when Greenberg had a recruiting meeting scheduled that conflicted with Weaver’s athletic department staff meeting.
And the rest is history…….

...secondhand? As in, he first heard it from someone other than Weaver? Or is that recollection of events just totally wrong?

Finney-Smith, Robert Brown, CJ Barksdale, etc. That was at top 20 class. Total bust of a class (except for DFS, who left) as it turned out.

Not saying Giltner is the direction we want to go, but it has at least done hope that he’s a great young coach. Worst case, you go find a new coach in two years which we will be doing anyway.
