Land Basile or Osunniyi and I am happy.
Both could be mentors to Wessler who could be ready to start as a Soph.

ISU Mod thinks Basile decides in 2-4 days

This is the first I've heard of Osunniyi. Has he even visited yet?
What are our chances? Who is our competition?

He looks like a good 5. Average scorer but good shot-blocker and rebounder. I'd take him.

Basile has 2 years and Wessler is 3 years away
tallahasseehokie tallahasseehokie
If hes 3 years away why was he offered?
Does not make sense...keep a 7’ 250 plus kid who can shoot on bench for 3 years?

This tells me u have either vastly under rated him or that he was mislead during the process.

Hes not going to wait 3 years to get meaningful PT
G
GCHokie34
Lynn Kidd was higher ranked, better offensively by a mile
More mobile and only slightly shorter...and he is entering his third year without seeing the floor

Expecting Patrick Wessler to contribute over the next 2 years just isnt reality. People fall in love with the 7 next to his name and think it makes a huge difference. He is a long way away...

We will see
Ur projection for JO was off the planet
G

My projection for big John was prior to losing a year and a half...
Of development due to the pandemic and injuries...if Wessler, or Kidd or (insert 98% of all post players) lose a year and a half consecutively, theyre not going to realize their potential.

The John Ojiako we saw late in his freshman year was never able to be built upon, and by the time he had come back he had been passed by Aluma and DNG for minutes at the 5, and his development in games would also take a hit (a big reason why he came to VT in the first place...they needed him to play)

Im very comfortable in my projection of Ojiako, just some bad breaks

Thank as always for taking time to share your knowledgeable insight about
MBB. I always look forward to it GC as I’m sure many others do on TSL.

What was his projection for Ojiako?

Wait. He predicted Ojiako was NBA worthy?
That's a credibility-killer

Im old and memory poor but
I remember he had big upside for JO

Dude missed almost two years and never learned to play defense.
Physical tools are different than practice and gaining experience. He probably would have been the man if Aluma didn't come out of nowhere.

Why was Ojiako, DNG, Jalen Haynes offered?
Just because people want him to be an ACC level talent, doesn't mean he will be.

Potential……
Ojiako hadn’t played much before college, Haynes might still be here but had academic issues, DNG was a pretty good high school player.
I
IronBlood
Exactly. All had potential, but none of them
panned out. Wessler seems like he has a lot of potential, but that doesn't mean he'll pan out.

I don't remember Ojiako, Haynes, or DNG being highly ranked. Wessler is
ranked overall in the 2nd 100 (a couple rankings were 118 and 164). I don't remember any Tech centers being that highly ranked before. I hope he develops in the college game as fast as he did going from Butler High to Combine Academy.

Blackshear was No. 88 by 247.

PW #24 center
Some forget that positional ranking more important for Centers and PF.

Guards more interchangable.

If he continues his trajection he will either be starting at center in 2 years or playing elsewhere. Thats the bb world these days.

Lynn Kidd was the #20 C...
tallahasseehokie tallahasseehokie
Great, Patrick will have someone to practice against
I

IMO 100-200 is not highly ranked.
And even less so for centers. Seven feet gets you attention no matter what your skill level is. He's like 23-26 in positional ranking. I can't intelligently comment on his progression, but improving against high school competition is way different from playing against ACC players with 2-3 years of experience.
tallahasseehokie tallahasseehokie
Hes ranked #24 center
CompRing C’s to the other 4slots meaningless
Chris Coleman Chris Coleman
Yeah, and remember we can't view hoops rankings like football rankings.
There are 13 scholarship basketball players, but 85 scholarship football players. Thousands of football recruits in the database...but not nearly as many basketball players.

If you convert the numbers, Wessler is probably like 600-700 nationally as a football recruit.

I've glad we signed him, but like most recruits, I have no idea what to expect. That's the nature of recruiting.

Truth……and ditto for all the recruits.

I agree on 3 yrs before he steps into the starting line up
But hopefully he can contribute some meaningful minutes off the bench in year 2.

I dont cause he will be portaled out yr two

3 years ?
equals 21 years for a dog, and 51 years for a div 1 basketball player :)

I don't believe it will be 3 years after reading how fast he improved
from Butler High to Combine Academy. He's the highest rated center (100 - 200) I can remember Tech signing.

I think in 2 years he can be a substantial contributor

That's actually not so bad if you look at our history for bigs: John Ojiako
Khadim Sy, Johnny Hamilton, and Satchel Pierce etc.
tallahasseehokie tallahasseehokie
JO couldnt score or shoot from outside 10’ in AAU
very raw...film was nothing but dunks.

Patrick has made drop step moves on SC top 3 talent and left the kid holding his jock. Video of his smooth 3 pt shots dont lie.

Some thought Ojiako had NBA potential.

Sorry, not even close.

I know. I never understood that one.

3 years away? That's really difficult to predict.
