was part of, some good things. No one is ever all good or all bad. But the program has flattened out. Something needs to change. Performance has slipped from both of these guys, or they are scapegoats. Likely a little of both. But just like men’s basketball, if nothing changes, nothing changes.

Food chain is every young, or old coach’s, dream. The ACC is a very, very, desirable goal. Now more than ever. The door is closing on the mid majors. A lot of good coaches out there that will jump at the chance to have that on their resume.

eventual Gamecock National Championship team. But a very good squad. Pete did a great job here. Especially considering the lack of overall facilities we had at that point. VT Baseball was crushed during the Atlantic 10/Big East timeframe. We were on a different planet when we first entered the ACC. Unfortunately, the Pat Mason era set back the progress that Pete had made and we were in a similar state (as when we entered the ACC) when Szefc arrived. Ironically, Pete's overall ACC winning percentage (while at VT) has not been as good as Szefc's, but their overall winning percentage (while at VT) is almost identical.

Team had a punchers chance 10 yrs ago Not now. . . There will never be a Coastal Carolina run to Omaha. The Big Conferences and the money are far and away the winners and will be in the future. It’s worse than 95% of fans realize.

Szefc had a decent record at Maryland, but I believe one of the better assistant coaches there didn’t follow him to VT.

season. That is when Fecteau joined the staff at Maryland. Rob Vaughn was the guy that stayed behind to take the head job when Szefc came here. And yes, he is at Clemson now.

Another season like this one and he's gone next May.
If so, I hope we have a new AD. IMO, John Szefc is smart enough to know when it's time to go, I doubt he gets fired. Hard to believe he's been at Tech for 8 years now. He's 91-125 in ACC play with one trip to the NCAA's during his tenure. Most ACC schools would've fired him by now. He needs to thank his lucky stars that Whit has been very patient with him.

Next to no NIL, Can’t change their situation or location and those challenges are the ones that matter most. Szefc knows how to coach and the players really like him. Who is VT going to get better? Maybe there is a Silver bullet hire out there.

your past comments. I will say, the NIL has gotten to be pretty decent in the last year. Significantly better at least. It is not on the high end for sure but it is not bad. And think baseball is getting some decent proceeds in the scholarship allocation from VT (rev share). But your post is very good and add in that the pedigree of the baseball programs in the ACC is tough to crack into.
