Tenn Federal Judge just froze NIL rules. Stated NIL rules cause irreparable
damage to student athletes. This is an extraordinary change that could change college athletics immensely. We are living in extraordinary times for college athletics.

The question was asked way back when the lawsuit was first announced, but my recollection is that there was no clear cut answer. Has there been any info dug up since then regarding this question. In my simple mind, I see why the SEC states would be supportive of this, but I would think both Tech and UVA would have been for more "managed" use of NIL. Or is it because we want a more "managed" approach with the athletic department having more control of the process.
Of course, the Virginia AG may have his own reasons, but for something affecting so many fans/voters there is inevitably a political impact. That said, reading the comments on the board, general conversation is concern about what this means for college football - especially for the non-P2 schools.

enforce their transition rule onto the football team - it may have struck a nerve. Nonetheless, theories abound.

It doesnβt matter how it was implemented - it was going to come to this quickly.

12th-year seniors at Ohio State will be making more money than NFL players

Or at least go head to head with the NFL. If you make more money playing for Bama than the Atlanta Falcons, could it happen?
This could get wild.

or use a chain to "tackle" the opposing player. Yes, the post is TIC. However, if there is no rules off the athletic field, then how long will it take before there are no rules on the athletic field too?

I don't have enough money to buy an NFL franchise, but I get to parachute into an NIL on a six figure check.
I get to play Jerry Jones, recruiting players myself, negotiating their contracts. When the head coaches loses with the great players I gave him, I get him fired (AD is just a figurehead).
Remember, this is just pocket change for these guys. As the SMU lead booster said, he can come up with $100 million in just a couple phone calls.

more about money than ever too. For those older adults that think walking away from this matters, donβt kid yourself, the younger generations literally have you covered with a bet.

NCAA was always set up as a non-profit to celebrate collegiate sports. IT was all for one and one for all.
It was an organization, with the understanding if you are a member, you agree with the terms and rules and accept punishment if you broke the rules. (just like Rotary club, little league etc.) Also, the NCAA tourney was amazing event, and the revenue generated was able to fund and acknowledge champions at all divisions.
Once the money came in and the :one upsmanshio and winning at all cost attitude expanded to many institutions, that was the beginning of the fall of the NCAA. NCAA was never set up to be a legal regulatory 'government' body
We might just see the p2 separate entirely. With that , the NCAA tourney goes (with the funding stream to support the other divisions. Many schools will just say heck with it. Schools like Randolph Macon, the historic black schools and of course the other schools who just love collegiate sports, will retreat. All not good, also many Division 1 schools not
included will hurt. The financial impact with unpaid debt by these institutions will be huge.
That's why I just standing back, enjoying seeing Hokies play, dont get wrapped up in it and enjoy it while we still have it.

and DIII feel about the organization? I think most people would agree that any sport association will likely be self-governing. If the P2 decide to form their own association, then the structure will probably be very similar to the current structure of the NCAA. At least I can't see the P2 forming their own associate and not establish any rules. Likewise, if all the non-P2s want to remain together and rebrand the association, then it will likely be very similar to the current structure of the NCAA. Heck the NAIA is currently structured the same way as the NCAA. If the schools can't create the rules and the NCAA can't enforce those rules, then how can the association even function?

Its no longer a community of student athletes at all levels and common values and principles. Its all money driven. Only the strongest wealthiest institutions can play and the rest well..... I just wonder if a new group is established where institutions can have recreational sports (sorta club level), and play for fun...
appears it works at club level for hockey, (i.e. VT hockey club, VT men's lacrosse) and some major institutions are in that group.

and NAIA DII. The only money the DII and DIII schools get is a cut of the March Madness money. However, if you look at their bylaws and any decisions they make, that money isn't really a driving factor. Heck the NAIA seems to be doing just fine and that association receives very little to any broadcasting exposure. When we are talking about money driven, then we are really only talking about at the DI level and even that may not be completely accurate because there are some smaller DI schools that are more like the DII, DIII, and NAIA schools than their peer DI schools.

could lose all athletes. I agree there needs to be rules and boundaries, but they are going in the opposite direction right now.

still need to be rules in place and some entity (i.e. association) in place to monitor those rules. I'm trying to picture how the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, or MLS would function if there were no rules in place. In theory the NCAA could still exist even if all athletes were ruled employees. All that would need to happen is to modify the bylaws to be compliant with any court ruling or changes in the laws. Now the schools could debate on whether each sport should have its own association like what we currently see with the pro leagues now or whether it could remain consolidated like how the NCAA is currently structured. There are pros and cons with both options and I don't know which would be the better option for the schools.

who will be in charge of them? Maybe the NCAA reshapes itself and maybe itβs another organization. π€·ββοΈ

think most people will view that organization as being no different than the NCAA? Heck do you view the NAIA differently than the NCAA? I ask because the NAIA is/will have to deal with the same issues the NCAA is facing now since it is another collegiate athletic association. FWIW the NAIA currently has a couple (I think 2 or 3) Canadian members and the NCAA currently only has 1 Canadian member (Simon Fraser). I'm not sure how the court rulings would apply to those schools and what happens if the court rulings or changes in the US law ever comes into conflict with Canadian law.
