Agreed... that would be a major step back to the current ACC, but frankly if it is the "fall-back" then it's not a total disaster as there are some very good teams that keeps sports relevant. Better than where Oregon State and Washington State sit today.

There's only two schools that I'd be semi-excited to play in that division: NC State and WVU. They say in real estate, that you should buy into a neighborhood on the low end. If that's true for realignment, then I'm definitely out on this deal.

"IF" the ACC ever did lose several schools, I think it is more likely that Pitt, Syracuse, Louisville and maybe GA Tech end up in the Big 12. UNC, UVA, Notre Dame and Miami to the Big 10 and GA Tech if Notre Dame remains a football independent. FSU, Clemson, NC State and VA Tech to the SEC. The ACC would be left with BC, Duke, Wake, SMU, Cal, Stanford and add UConn, South Florida, Tulane, Rice, Air Force, Oregon State, Washington State, San Diego State, Notre Dame (if they remain a football independent) and have Army-West Point and Navy-Annapolis as football only members. The ACC would have 16 football schools and 15 all sports members. And a lot of playoff contenders and and National Championship contenders over time. “Conference of Champions” With a PAC Division team and an ACC Division team playing every year in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day after the parade…and the best of the bunch playing in the Playoff for it all. Maybe even get 3 or more teams in the CFP any given year. How much of a payback would that be to the PAC and B12 schools that left for the supposed (current) P2. to implode. Except for some click baits, the stories of the B12 "wanting" the PAC to implode were over the top as well. That being said, being in the B12, I had no issue with the stories that "if" the PAC implodes, the 4 corners would fit, and would be desirable. The ACC so far is the only power conference that has not reshuffled their deck. No matter where you land on that spectrum, the conference will be reshuffled. It seems to me that arguments are not about IF, they are about WHEN. With the type of money that is being thrown around, the idea that the ACC will not re-align, lands to close to 0%.
