to do with the academic side of the house.
And those on the academic side appear to be ill equipped to deal with these sorts of issues.

First his name is Gator Hokie. I would assume from the state of the Florida (and we see how crazy that state is). and the crazies out of control governance of FSU.
Sands does quite well; grown the University , to around 40,000; increased significantly the university R&D base and ranking. Some of those folks with lacking academic well with all, normally takes that position on a university president.
For the expansion, its very simple, if VT (as well as UVA feels), that the university is going to get more money without leaving the ACC, they are for it.

If the ACC adds those 3, the ACC will have added 6 private universities...
since 2004 (Miami, BC, Syracuse, Notre Dame, Stanford and SMU), 1 private-public in Pitt and 2 public universities (Tech and Louisville). Virginia Tech is the only true traditional large state university that the ACC has added. Meanwhile, the Big Ten and SEC have expanded with all large state universities except for USC.
I'm disappointed that Tech is in favor of adding Calford and SMU but Tim Sands is a proud Cal guy and San Francisco native and has influenced the BOV to support the Calford expansion. I know some on here have "corrected" me that the BOV makes the decision but every article and podcast I've read or listened to has only mentioned the ACC presidents. I'm sure the folks at Cal have put some pressure on Sands since he got all three of his degrees from Berkeley.

$36 Billion endowment. They plan to tap that to compete and fund a move to the ACC. They historically have excellent athletics. NIL will only help. Tied with Harvard as the number 3 school in the nation. What else do you need?

Shaw faltered since COVID, and has been replaced. Stanford has proven to be very capable in football. I look at it as pulling in new P5 members doesn't come around very often for the ACC. So the ACC is taking advantage of it while it's an option.

in the country. They combined for something like 90k per game. The ACC doesn't need more of that.
I've warmed to the Pitt addition some (should have been WVU), but I think every other addition since VT/Miami have been flops that do nothing to enhance the conference.

But I'm not counting on the Big Ten kicking anyone out. They can keep Rutgers. In the SEC I guess it would be Vandy. I'd bet the ACC would love to have them too.

That said, if Calfordsmu is going to be a thing, I'd rather see the ACC go all in with OSU, WSU, and 1-3 more schools to create a legit western branch to the conference. Guess it's just too complicated and risky to go all in though.
