PAC-12 will receive its death blow Friday, August 4th, as Big 12 will vote in Arizona & ASU.
“Arizona's Board of Regents meet tonight in Special Session to begin process of leaving PAC-12. Multiple reports signaling Big 12 will meet on Friday to vote in both Arizona schools into the conference. Doug Robinson of the Desert News writes a fantastic article and describes the situation as all PAC-12 schools need to find a new home now.”

options perhaps ever. B1G may have said they are either going more in on west or going southeast. They can’t do both unless they go past 20 which they may have put as a cap. And SEC may have said they will never take FSU. This could be the reason for their recent outbursts.

ACC and PAC merger, then renegotiate with ESPN.
Even better if you can include the best of the B12 and make it a four time-zone P3 conference.

I'll start...
The ACC is already not getting enough per team.
ESPN did not offer the PAC a package, even with Wash and Oregon that was as much as what the ACC gets now.
Why would the ACC get into an agreement that doesn't pay each team more?
In order for the ACC teams to get more, the PAC would have to be worth more than the ACC so the ACC could get some of the PAC money or the PAC would have to take less per team than the ACC. Why would the PAC schools take less, if they were worth that, they'd already have a media deal.

Arizona State away from the WAC. I guess it is possible the Pac-8 could exist again or the conference finds replacement members to get back to the Pac-12 or become the Pac-10 again.

with same-state public universities to avoid one leaving the other behind. Virginia's AG has already messaged that both need landing spots IF/when occurrence. FSU does not have that issue as Mia is private. Oregon and Washington state AG's may/may not have similar povs...and prob why AZ and AZ st are bundled

a. It's just athletics conference membership...if one of VT/UVa were to go P2 and the other not, it's hardly the end of the world (for, you know, those academic things attached to football that are really what the institutions exist for).
b. Even if you buy the "left behind" narrative, who cares? So one school has something that the other doesn't? GASP! They're not supposed to be one united institution or 2 identical separate ones. I don't see the VA legislature giving VT more money to make up for the endowment deficit it has to UVa...OMG, we're being left behind!

it is "reputation" and public image.
Not sure how long you have been around but VT has changed for the better in many respects since 2000. Athletics gets you more "well known" and then applications increase

I've got 10 years/3 degrees as a student and 7 as an employee, teaching and administrative, since then.
I worked in admissions during the initial the rise of VT football.
Guess what? Applications were already on the rise before we became "someone" in football. Then the MNC run did give us a significant bump—for a year or two, after which we returned to being right on the previously-established trend.
VT has changed for the better in many ways. It's not because of football or conference memberships.
It really is just athletics.
VT going P2, ACC, neutered ACC, B12, whatever, isn't going to be a big deal for VT the academic institution.

things play out. If the Big XII or another conference decides to raid the MWC, then it could cause the MWC to become unstable. Some schools could decide it would be better to make a fresh start in a new conference with Wazzou and Oregon St than to try to keep the MWC afloat. Also, we don't know what the fallout will be once the NCAA re-org has been announced.

The Board of Regents oversees Northern Arizona U. too—Big Sky Conference.
Just because decisions get made by the same group of people doesn't mean the decisions have to be the same for all 3 schools.
Maybe it makes it more likely they're tied together, but I wouldn't say it's a foregone conclusion.

and ASU, but they don’t want to have anything to do with Utah.
Taking both schools at the same time seems likely to me, but there are a lot of people who are speculating that only Arizona will be invited initially. I guess we will find out tomorrow.
