anybody that thinks USC and UCLA made the jump with out a pretty implicit agreement in place with the B1G that they would eventually have regional company is crazy.
USC/UCLA had to be the first piece.
Whether those schools move the needle that much or not - they are part of the plan.

Big Ten Man says B1G is not interested in Cal. Feels Stanford, Oregon and Washington would join ND if the Irish join. He feels ND will join by mid October. B1G will have future semifinal games one week before championship game. I personally think ND will get what they want from NBC (or someone else) and remain indy.

Those four schools won’t increase the per team payout. At the same time, they add travel costs and reduce the frequency of teams playing each other.

Oregon and Washington approached B1G. They were told to stand by, presumably because B1G wants an answer from ND first. Why? I believe that B1G doesn't want to go beyond 18. Any further than that dilutes the conference brand and per school payout. If B1G was willing to go beyond 18, Oregon and Washington would already be in. If ND agrees to join B1G, Stanford gets the invite. If Notre Dame declines, Washington and Oregon get the invite.

A lot of rumors going on today floated around by members of CBS. I hear the B1G is headed to 22 members with 4 more Pac teams plus FSU & Miami. I even watched a Big 12 video that had UVA & VT both thrown in to make 24 teams in the B1G. That Big 12 man also again repeated what I have heard many times, that eight ACC members leaving was necessary to dissolve that GOR agreement. I have heard people dispute that here. I do not know. However I would think those requirement numbers are stated within that ACC GOR contract. The B1G may soon have the ACC front office dusting off that GOR contract for enforcement. I cannot believe the SEC would sit and let the B1G take FSU.

The B16 goes to The B20...
if they add those 4 Pac-12 schools. Notre Dame would make 21. Would the B21 have three 7 team divisions (East, Central and West) OR will they then wait and add UVA, UNC and GA Tech or FSU or Clemson to get to 24? I assume that Notre Dame would be in the West Division with the 6 former Pac-12 schools if 21 is their final number of members.

They have to have 8 of the 14 or 15 if you include ND.
However, many are still sleeping on basketball, and the money it will make if it breaks away from the NCAA. The football playoff if it expands to 12 or 16 is estimated to make about a billion or a billion 200 thousand. The NCAA already takes in 1.15 Billion from Basketball, with 85% from March Madness. Look back over the years and the ACC has dominated March Madness in the number of wins and winning percentage.

He's publicly saying "we are ready to grab any number of these schools at any time". And that gives ND some options to pick who they would want to dance with. If ND absolutely wants Stanford and doesn't care about anyone else, then it could be ND, Standford and two others that the BIG picks to get to 20.
I now feel that 20 is their target. And if they get to 20, then the SEC and ACC are forced to act. Because the SEC has ego and wants to keep up and the ACC would be too small to keep up (plus lose ND).
August is going to be very interesting with the ND contract and the BIG contract. Then possibly more moves before the season starts.

I think this is more about the fact the B1G has Rutgers, Maryland, Purdue, Northwestern, Indiana, Illinois and Minnesota on its football roster. Sure, some play some good football every so often, but more often than not, they stink and nobody wants to watch them.
So if 7 out of 16 teams aren't a very good watch, and you're signing a billion dollar contract, you better put out some better weekly content than the following:
Iowa vs Minnesota
Rutgers vs Nebraska
Michigan State vs Indiana
Ohio State vs Illinois
Michigan vs Northwestern
Penn State vs Maryland
UCLA vs Purdue
USC vs Wisconsin (CONGRATS USC vs Wisconsin, you are game of the week by default because you don't have one of those 7 teams that STINKS!!)
The B1G is a myth. The SEC is reality.

on BTN and almost drew a million. The only games that outdrew them were on major (non conference) networks. MSU-Indiana had 1.276M--double what watched VT & Pitt that day. PSU-MD had almost a million viewers on FS1. The last time Ohio State & Illinois played in 2017, more than 3M watched.
Do you seriously think people don't watch Wisconsin? They won't watch them play USC or UCLA?
SECN and ACCN don't publish their TV ratings, so what does that tell you?

It’s going to be SEC vs B1G at noon, 3:30, 8:00, every Saturday. And the SEC is going to win most of those battles. Because they don’t have so much dead weight.

opportunity to outdraw it in every other slot and doesn’t. 3:30 doesn’t. Prime time doesn’t.

I think they continue to add western teams. It will give them prime time content all year.
Big10 teams mostly don’t play night games in Nov.

and so does the B1G. The B1G has huge schools in numbers and I think Kevin Warren said there 7 million alumni. There is nothing else like it.
That said, I like the matchup model of the SEC over the market size model of the B1G. The ACC for football went for markets, but their success is in basketball and it is a matchup model. Their best game, for that fact the best game in college basketball is two schools 15 minutes apart.

Might also be a subtle message to ND that B1G might move on without ND if
they drag their feet.

ND joining funds further expansion.
(In response to this post by Femoyer Hokie)
The SEC isn't going just take more schools to keep up in number IMO
(In response to this post by HokieAl)
Sounds like Fake News or a tease for a PR clean up.
Maybe they are nervous about the current California government interference.
Maybe they realize that completely destroying a great and well respected conference isn't being viewed favorably by people who actually watch and attend college football games.
Or maybe, they somehow think this will turn up the heat on ND. I don't see how, but the B1G and ACC obsession with ND makes them do illogical things.
If they want UO, UW and Cal/Stanford, why wait? Waiting just diminishes their reputation and value.
Warren is a double talker. Talks about being bold and aggressive, but needs "time to study" these schools? What a joke.

I've not seen that much info come out of a commissioner's mouth since Mike Slive's "We can go to 16 teams in 15 minutes"
(In response to this post by LoveSports)
I'd like to see the SEC call their bluff. What if the SEC would offer
Oregon, Washington and any other school in the Pac-12 with football acumen and tell them they have one week to decide?
It would be fun to say the least.
In fact, I wonder is the SEC is even thinking about venturing West.
(In response to this post by hokieZ71)
SEC doesn't have to go west. They're better top to ...
bottom than the B16. IMHO, the SEC will want to only add top brands from each state. The states of Virginia and North Carolina are likely first priority. Will they take 2 from each or just one? The only non-SEC schools that exist in their geographic footprint that they would seriously consider would be Clemson and FSU since both would fit perfectly into the SEC football culture and both have multiple football national championships.

it's sure not their football history. Even recently, the two LA schools have not had football success. UCLA has never been great in football, and how many years since Pete Carroll got run out of USC to the NFL?

Designed to freeze us out by giving those teams hope. They don't want them joining the ACC and signing a GOR.
Given the P10 TV deal estimates, they are not worth enough for the B1G, unless this can scare ND into joining with them.
