Two sections from the article: While there is a perception that Yormark’s quick work stems from the Big 12 having more to sell than the Pac-12, the reality is that both leagues should end up cashing in despite the upcoming departure of key members. Media rights fees are going up across the college athletics industry, as evidenced by the massive deal the Big Ten locked up during the summer and what the Big 12 has just agreed to. The Pac-12 is likely to announce a deal (soon) that goes heavily into alternatives to linear TV, which is a consumer trade-off, but it should help bring in enough revenue to keep the league on nearly even footing with the Big 12. If that’s the case, both leagues have the chance to stabilize and survive without raiding each other.  And another section: The conference that should be wary of an increasingly restless membership is the ACC (24). Its 14 football schools are watching revenues increase across the board while they’re still stuck in a contract that doesn’t expire until 2036. If leagues that were presumed to be on life support over the last 15 months are suddenly bringing in more money per school than the ACC—and will be for more than a decade to come—that won’t sit well in places like Clemson, Florida State and North Carolina.

The new Big 12 deal and rips the PAC 12's incompetence. Fast forward to the 32 minute mark and they talk about this for about 28 minutes. The Big 12 deal won't be official until all 12 schools sign off on it and then the deal can be signed sealed and delivered with ESPN and Fox Sports. The Big 12 has reclaimed all tier 3 rights and will distribute those later quite probably to Amazon. They comment on how this affects the Big Ten and their prospective raid on the Pac-12. I don't have time to do a summary of The Monty Show right now and I hope I have time to add some comments this evening about the overall picture of things.

On Big 12 media deal. Bob Thompson says PAC 12 has to earn at least $30 million per school per year. What will Yormark do next? Why hasn't the PAC 12 not announced a TV yet? When will they?

Big 12 isn't nearly as close to a TV deal as they thought but there's no hurry either. Like me, Thompson noticed Yormark said that he and the TV people had not talked about the length of the contract yet in the last comments I heard earlier this week. The amount you'll get paid and the LENGTH of the contract are the two most important featues on an extension but they haven't talked about contract length yet? Hmmm. Without a significant pay difference between the Big 12 and the PAC 12 it's going to be virtually impossible for the Big 12 to lure over the 4 corner schools without B1G help taking Oregon and Washington first. And it seems you are, I've posted realignment content for every power conference I can find, and for right now, the only 3 conferences with any realignment news at all are the Big 12, PAC 12, and Big Ten. This is the most complex realignment cycle any of us has ever seen before and it seems like whatever news affects one conference has the potential to affect the other conferences some way, somehow downstream. If there were any conference realignment news concerning the ACC I'd be delighted to be the one to post it. There is no such ACC news, at least for now. Wow! You try to help people with news from around the country and you get whacked for it. So it's my fault there is no ACC realignment news? I guess so. The only content I've "pushed" has been quality content.

The Big 12 was always somewhat viewed as a vulture that would come in after the Big Ten took schools and clean up the rest of the schools that weren't taken, but now it appears the Big 12 is attempting to make a play themselves. Dodd did explain that if the Pac-12's deal is majority streaming content, that there is a belief among industry sources that some Pac-12 schools might eye a move to the Big 12, because of the decreased chances of the Pac-12 being televised as frequently. Something Dodd explained would be a huge win for the Big 12 saying: If that happens, the Big 12 could promise a coast-to-coast conference located in four time zones with games positioned all four windows: noon, mid-afternoon, prime time and late night. The ball is again, in the Pac-12's court. 

Writer Jeff Hansen quotes from the Marchand and Ourand Sports Media Podcast about the potential Big 12 TV deal with Marchand saying, "Look, if I’m the Big 12 I might wait, quite honestly. If you go 16 months from now and you can bring in all the other players and negotiate with them. If I’m ESPN, and to a lesser degree Fox, I’m being a little more aggressive. If I’m them, I want to box out those others – I don’t want Amazon to have a chance at this. Let them have the PAC-12 and let that go into oblivion. If I’m ESPN, is it going to cost me more in a year and half than it does now? I would say it would cost you more. So, pay a little bit more than you probably want right now, it probably makes sense," he said. "I’ve been bullish on Amazon. The reason I said oblivion before is because I don’t know if it works with college football – especially not with lesser tier college football. PAC-12 has some good teams, but without UCLA and USC, they don’t really have many marquee teams who are contending for a national championship." Sic'em 365 radio 9 & 1/2 minute segment well worth watching! Total payout this year for everything for Big 12 members was $42.6 Million which includes NCAA Tournament money, playoff money, etc,.....everything. New contract could be $60 Million per school including money from expanded football playoff (which every conference will obviously get). Not bad for a conference most thought was dead a year ago! Big 12 may secure new media rights deal with current partners in matter of weeks. KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Big 12 could have a new media rights deal in place with ESPN and Fox within a matter of weeks, sources tell CBS Sports. The league has been aggressively pursuing a new deal ahead of the conference's formal negotiating window in 2024. And more in the article! Stech! Wouldn't you know it! I found this new article right after I posted my reply to you to be cautious in our expectations! Wow!😁

It read: "On the other hand, this might be just a decision to stick with ESPN &/or Fox Sports and not approach other potential carriers including Amazon and no actual announcement of deal specifics at all. Is that all this is? We apparently will know quite soon!" In other words, it still might be 16 months (or less) until we get actual specifics because that is still being negotiated. Is Yormark simply saying they will decide & publicly announce whether or not the Big 12 will eliminate CBS, NBC, Amazon & Apple from negotiations? Or is this the actual announcement of a finalized deal? Either way, we'll see which interpretation is correct pretty darn soon!

The Big 12's Men’s Basketball Tipoff was wrapping up on Wednesday afternoon when a potential bombshell report from Ari Temkin, host of Big 12 Now on SiriusXM Radio. According to Temkin, Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark hinted that the league could have an announcement concerning a new television agreement soon. Yormark said that a decision will come from the Big 12 “in the next couple of weeks.” And more in the article. Two weeks is a lot less than the 16 months he estimated it would take in the article I posted just yesterday! Gotta wonder what the terms and conditions will be and how much money $$$$$ Big 12 schools will get per year. Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark said on Tuesday that “my gut” tells him that a TV deal with ESPN and Fox would get done before the exclusive negotiating window in 16 months. "Initially, it was all about is this something we want to pursue?” he said. “Is there a desire to get to the table and see if we can do an early extension? I think on both sides, the answer to that question was, yes, Everyone’s motivated.  And more!

Good stuff about payouts in the PAC 12 versus the Big 12 and possible Big 12 expansion. Just because in some other article B1G Commissioner Warren says they are "not aggressively pursuing expansion" to me doesn't mean expansion is completely off the board due to the fact conferences no longer "aggressively pursue" new members anyway due to legal reasons, they allow potential new schools to come and stand on their Welcome Mat and request an application form. Therefore, so what he says they're not "aggressively pursuing" new members. The last thing I heard was that commissioner Warren of the Big Ten had not,... NOT hit the pause button on expansion at all. Now you're saying he's hit the pause button. Do you have an article or something you can show me where you got that impression? What in the world did I miss? Thank you very much!

And, if I understand this correctly, by negotiating the early release of Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC (which benefits ESPN) then ESPN would return the favor by allowing the "new" Big 12 to keep the same pay rate and actually give a pay bump up..... maybe to $45 million per school per year. (If Texas and Oklahoma stay through 2025 I've heard the Big 12 might get as much as $50 million per school per year but I doubt this will ever happen because they'll be gone to the SEC before then.) This $45 million per school per year figure does not include any money from a streaming service like Amazon for example. The ACC only got $37 or $38 million in the most recent payday,... right??? I haven't heard how much the ACC will get in the near future. Anybody have a dollar estimate because I haven't seen one. Thanks! P.S. I've always felt when a school moves to a new conference they need to earn at least $10 million more per year from the new conference they're moving to so they can quickly recoup the exit fees they had to pay to the conference they're leaving behind and, on top of that, quickly recoup the entry fees they must pay to the new conference they're joining so that's why I don't see the conference moves some of you are hoping for. For example, will the ACC be able to pay WVU or Cincy $10 million more per year than what they will get by simply remaining in the Big 12? Can the Big 12 pay PAC 12 schools $10 million more per year than what they can get by simply remaining in the PAC 12? Because these exit and entry fees are so darn high I've had people I trust tell me the actual income increase needs to be at least $15 million so my $10 million requirement is actually quite conservative! That's why I suspect the only way the Big 12 can get those 4 corner schools to switch conferences is to have the B1G take Oregon and Washington first so those 4 corner schools have absolutely no choice but to make the leap to the Big 12. Today Jason Scheer of 247sports.com, who covers Arizona on a daily basis, said in a radio interview that Arizona would be willing to move to the Big 12 if the income difference between the two conferences produced at least $5 to $7 million more income than what they're going to get by remaining in the Pac-12 and hopefully $10 million more. Last night on the Internet I listened to the Statewide Sportsline hosted by the Voice of the Mountaineers, Tony Caridi, who said in emphatic terms that the bare minimum for a school to switch conferences, and it make financial logical sense, was nothing less than $20 million per school per year! Obviously there's a huge difference between what Scheer thinks and what Caridi thinks the difference needs to be in income before a school will jump conferences. Personally, I always thought the bare minimum for switching conferences was about $10 to 15 million per school per year. It costs the school jumping conferences tens of millions of dollars in exit fees to get out of their old conference and entry fees to get into their new conference knowing they absolutely have to get that money back and get it back as quickly as they possibly can for it to make any sense to move it all. If Caridi is right, and it's $20 million, then it appears we're headed for a realignment stalemate or Mexican standoff because I don't believe the ACC, the Big 12, or the PAC 12 could ever be that much more profitable than the other two conferences. What do you guys think is the minimum amount of additional money a school must earn from their new conference before the move makes financial sense and why? A little league pitcher accidentally hit a batter in the head with a pitch and the batter went to the ground in great pain. The young kid eventually got up off the ground and went down to first base when he looked over at the pitcher who had just hit him in the head with that errant pitch and saw he was having a terrible time emotionally dealing with the fact he had unintentionally injured another person. The kid standing on first base saw the grief the pitcher was suffering and the kid who was hit in the head went over to the pitcher's mound to comfort the pitcher who had just hit him with a bad pitch! There are a hell of a lot of adults in this world who could learn a fantastically good lesson from these two young kids who just set the kind of example we adults should be setting for them! One of his contentions is he doesn't believe the B1G or SEC really wanted to expand but when two massive brands like Texas and Oklahoma offered themselves up to the SEC, the SEC simply could not say no & had to take them for fear if they didn't, those 2 schools would go to the B1G.

Fast forward the red bar over to 2 hours and 26 minutes into the show for the very beginning of the interview with Tim Brando and it runs about half an hour. He addresses the past, present, & future of the NCAA and the great need for change therein. He talks about all power 5 conference commissioners. I heard elsewhere the B1G is talking about starting revenue sharing with its players and he mentioned that briefly too. He feels teams from other than the mega2 conferences will participate in the national championship playoff and he said Notre Dame's GOR expired in 2025 which surprised me. I assumed their GOR extended through 2036 like everybody else! He also pointed out the NCAA's control over the men's basketball tournament expires in 2032 (I didn't know that either) & he didn't know what would happen to the tournament after that date.

"The Monty Show" is brand new to me so I don't know their biases but they didn't seem to hold anything back.

That the B1G needed $143 million in new income if they added any 2 schools just to break even, and Washington and Oregon together only produced $60 million in new revenue meaning they fell $83 million short and that's why the B1G passed them over. I *think* I got that information from the guy who writes about U. of Arizona on wildcatauthority.com but I'm not certain. That $60 million figure surprised me because I assumed they were worth much more than that.

I intended to post this information yesterday while I still had people's names fresh in my mind but I forgot. Sic'em 365 interviewed the guy who has his own website that covers the University of Arizona and he said ESPN offered the "PAC 10" only $24.5 million per school per year. John Canzano (not with Sic'em 365) previously interviewed the former FOX Sports executive Bob Thompson, who once negotiated college sports contracts, and he expected the PAC10 would get about $30 million per school per year. The question now becomes is that $24.5 million per school per year offer carved in stone and ESPN's take it or leave offer, or is this a low ball first offer that can be negotiated up? Let the speculation begin!😁

Back when that prospective Paterno led conference could have been formed Paterno had a very low opinion of Miami's image and ethics, and I really doubt Miami would have been invited to join that conference that early on. I think the more likely candidate would have been Florida State coached by Bobby Bowden who Paterno really liked. It's been so long ago I can't be sure but I think South Carolina would have still been available to be added if Paterno had wanted to do it. Who knows where it might have gone from there! Maryland was sick and tired of not receiving the respect and power they felt, as a 1952 founding member of the ACC, they deserved and to which they were entitled. They were so frustrated (and who wasn't?) with all the power Tobacco Road possessed. In the old days I had infinitely better sources than I have today (they all retired or passed away!) but I was told nearly every time there was the possibility of a new conference forming or an existing conference expanding Maryland nearly always had a rep on the teleconference call or in attendance at the prearranged meetings that were conducted face to face in some out of the way place like a lounge in an airport somewhere. [The only exception was when the long defunct Metro Conference (when they still had FSU, Louisville, etc) wanted to invite WVU, Pitt, Syracuse and BC to join ranks with the Metro back in the 1980s.] Now some of that may have been Maryland just being curious and some of it may have been about doing competitor intelligence but my friends and I knew people who were on those teleconference calls or attended those meetings and they sincerely believed Maryland genuinely wanted to find a new conference home for a long time. I had no reason to doubt what they told me way back then and I still believe them to this day. Rest in peace my dear friends! By the way, how do you go about editing a post on this message board??? Decades ago I had Penn State fans and boosters hint to me that someday they could be in the Big 10 but I sort of brushed them off thinking they weren't really being serious, just being sort of arrogant. I always knew Penn State fit academically and athletically into the Big Ten but way back then everybody thought the Big Ten's geography stopped at the Ohio River. Well that was stupid thinking wasn't it! If Paterno had successfully formed that Eastern Sports League that he wanted so badly, which Pitt and Syracuse killed because they didn't want to be under Penn State's thumb and Pitt didn't want to surrender all the bagsful of money they were making from bowl games that they didn't want to share with a conference because they didn't see any reason to do that, things would have been a whole lot different. For reasons I won't go into here I would bet you a dollar to a penny as soon as that conference had formed Maryland would have been a member. I have very, very little doubt about that proposition. I heard Paterno himself say that if his dream conference he wanted to put together had actually formed he would have stopped coaching and became that new conference's commissioner. Well, it's all water under the bridge now and we're left holding the bag of curiosity and wonderment about what could have been.
