Just rewatched National Lampoons Christmas Vacation
Way less funny than I remembered. Not just because the humor is dated, but just because a lot of it was really dumb in the first place. Especially the physical comedy. Like the sledding sequence, for instance, or the drive to get the tree. Probably doesn't help that Chevy Chase is so unlikeable here.
And it's not like I've lost my taste for 80's comedy. I rewatched original Ghostbusters recently, and that still mostly holds up.

Can't get enough of the movie. It was not meant to be Citizen Kane.

I didn't see all of Christmas Vacation until a couple of years ago. I'd seen bits and pieces over the years, but never saw it in its entirety until a year or two ago. I wouldn't say I found it hilarious, but I wouldn't say I thought it was bad, either. It has a nostalgic feel with some classic scenes that I can't help but chuckle at even if they are stupid. Of course there are some stupid scenes that are unfunny now, but overall it's a good mindless escape from the suckage of daily life in 2023.

Christmas seems to be a meme farm for those of us over 40, but it turns out it's pretty bad as, you know, a comedy movie.
