Looks like Hollywood may be gone by tomorrow morning…..
Horrendous new fire. Just found out a client’s home burned to the ground. Lost everything. Very sad.

Sunset fire under containment. Fire has been stopped

This is beginning to look like eco-terrorism.

The terrorists are generating 100+ MPH winds?
E
EDGEMAN
I believe they are the ones setting the fires during high wind conditions..
...but you already knew that.
M
ModerateHokie
Well it is certainly possible that someone set one or more fires, there is
no evidence of that. Until there is, I'm going to go on the fact that CA wildfires happen every year, that high winds make those fires do crazy things, and that there is some inevitability to it, just like it's inevitable that the OBX will one day be wiped out.
E
EDGEMAN
Lets do a simple math problem. If you are a terrorist, what act...
...causes the most property damage and potentially takes the most lives, not to mention the odds of getting caught are far lower? (1) renting a Ford F-150 EV truck and mowing down people in New Orleans, or (2) setting fires in southern California when the winds are their worst. Once you set the first and it burns out of control, you can move on to the next section and light fires there. Feel free to use your calculator.
reestuart reestuart
there's a better chance of it being some dumbass who didn't extinguish his
campfire (that he probably wasn't supposed to start) than a terrorist biding their time and waiting for 100mph to fan the flames to burn a city down.
E
EDGEMAN
So after the first fire raged out of control, someone else...
...decided to have a campfire in Hollywood and let it get out of control? Ummmm...sure.
reestuart reestuart
Which fire? They have them every year? 95% caused by people.

Just curious when the next LA fire starts...then the next...
Simple and very cheap way to destroy a lot of property and kill people. Wonder if the LA mayor will cut another $17M out of the LAFD budget this year?
vthokieq vthokieq
I'm just curious...and I'm dead serious when asking...
...but is there anything nowadays that doesn't have some sort of conspiracy theory behind it? Maybe the real conspiracy theory is why is everything a conspiracy theory?
M
ModerateHokie
I think Edgeman is a govt plant, paid to promote conspiracies to distract
us from the truth
reestuart reestuart
Amazing how so many people flat out refuse to believe the most logical
explanations to just about anything.
reestuart reestuart
Probably shouldn't have sent an extra $126M to the police.
I do wonder what the reasoning for cutting the fire department was, though. Seems dumb.
reestuart reestuart
I also think it could have been intentional. That crap happens all the
time, but I've never heard of it being done by a terrorist.
M
ModerateHokie
Great. Waiting for the evidence.
E
EDGEMAN
We just let 20-50M people illegally walk into this country over...
...the last four years, and there were definitely terrorists in that group. For anyone who thinks they'll now be good little people are follow our laws are delusional.
M
ModerateHokie
I don't even think our own legal citizens are all "good little people".
E

So why completely open the border with no controls over who enters?
vthokieq vthokieq
No...that's the government with their secret weather machines.

Those danged contrails are dropping to the earth as flammable fuel!
Get your heads out of your butts and look!!!

Govt needs to reposition that suspicious fog to put these fires out...
oh wait, I forgot the govt wants the fires so they can get the land cheap. Excuse me while I go put my tin foil hat back on.
reestuart reestuart
There must be some lithium or something up in those hills just ripe
for the mining. Next step will be the government seizing land and moving the people out to Anaheim.

I cannot believe that the hydrants ran out of water. I have never heard tha
That happening before in modern America. If there were major earthquakes that destroyed water mains, that would be expected. But not from just not having enough water or pressure. That is just disgusting. People have now died. Worked with LAFD special operations previously- there are a ton of problems within LAFD. Had no idea something this bad could happen, but likely a lot of those guys had no idea either. Have heard there was no pre-staging of equipment. ** Edited by reconhokie at 1/9/2025, 4:49:39 AM

Seems like planners would start with the worse-case scenarios and
work from there....The current conditions weren't unimaginable as it has been discussed on a leading podcast (...i.e. with the right conditions, fire will burn to the sea). With 20-60mph winds, there isn't a 100% solution, but the un-educated me thinks that 40% could have been prevented with deforestation/line management, water prep, etc...Scalping mountains is ugly and maybe unacceptable...and maybe ineffective idk...But there have to be mitigation actions that reduce the annual burn. Sad for those impacted...

Does the vegetation help prevent landslides?
I'm guessing the solution WOULD have been to not allow development in the hills. Then you could clear fire lines at the base of the hills. Let the hills burn and regrow like they have for eons.
