what was that boy's name we used to have? I think he was a transfer from Coastal Carolina that couldn't catch a break w/ his mom dying of cancer and being outside...what?... some sort of zone by like a mile and a half? I just remember bits of that story. The way the NCAA treats "normal" schools, and they way they've treated UNC ... corrupt as shirt.

The NCAA made him sit out a year due to a “mileage” issue related to the distance between his home and Coastal Carolina and Va Tech. He’s in the NFL now. I believe the “Portal” rules killed the mileage 💩.

Won three D2 water polo titles as a starter and was all conference 5 years in swimming. There was a 2.5 month overlap in the seasons (mid Sept through Nov), so he might play swim in a meet Saturday morning, play 2 afternoon games on Saturday then a couple on Sunday and get up Monday morning to start a swim double. Water polo weekends were often a 14 hour bus ride to Harvard, play 5 games, get home at 4 am, in a Thermodynamics class at 0900. Summers were swimming club/masters at 0500 and a couple nights of polo plus working 40 hours a week lifeguarding. Graduated Magnu Cum laude as an undergrad, MS Outstanding Grad Student. Somewhat of a brag on him, but it irks me when I see these spoiled football players gaming the system and getting many extra years of eligibility while taking 12 hours in easy majors and getting coddled. One of the things my son said his 5th (covid) year was "I can't be hanging around 18 year olds anymore." When you're 26 and in your 8th year of college, just go grow up. Get a job.

NCAA is an organization for collegiate sports. It represents most of collegiate sports, it was structured as not as a business, but an association of universities. It's lead by university presidents, and series of committees to ensure an integrated approach of the student athlete. Yes they have an enforcement arm, but its general premise is unversities do the right thing, and self policing and if they issue a punishment, all agree for the 'good of the game'. THe tournements are their forte, and they give an amazing portfolio of offerings for all divisions. With the revenue they generate, they can champion not only the division 1, but use the earnings, the 1) fund the other division's championships, help smaller schools to participate, fund the staff for keeping up records, seedings for tourneys, and hte process, etc. The world has changed, and schools who want the win at all costs, and dont like the NCAA findings lawyer up and win every time. THe NCAA has to attempt lawyer up again to defend the decision. Bottomline, in the courts the NCAA is not a business or enterprise that has legal standings. so NCAA is crushed again again. Also, when they create any new policies, the lawyers go over the document, and basically eliminate anything they would like to do, because they war game possibility for a law suit, from player a or his/her agent, the school etc. They are caught in the middle. The big schools or conferences are not going to support 1 organization, who will oversee the enteprise because the possibility to limiting their business to win at all cost. No poliltician going to get into this, because no senator is going to vote to limit their state u.

On the thoughts of that, IMHO.

I get it, but it's all a joke. These football players are laughably coddled to just get the bare minimum in relatively easy degrees. Meanwhile, athletes in far more demanding sports are getting Engineering degrees.

Former Hokie LB and 3 year starter Rusty Pendleton got his engineering degree from VT. I remember my Sophomore year taking a Materials Engineering class with Hokie DT Bryant Campbell. And it was heavily reported that former UT Vol Josh Dobbs got his aerospace engineering degree. Of course, 2 of my examples were over 30 years ago. But I definitely agree with your post in general.

But you'll find Engineers, hard science, and Accounting and Finance majors very rarely in football. Swim team is another story.
