VT has a full roster if the crystal balls (3) commit
Starting with the current 105 roster….
minus 22 seniors (assume all out of eligibility)
add 22 signed recruits
minus 23 portal outs
add 20 committed portals (per 247)
add 3 portals in with CBs (Grunk, Kenny Woseley, Ethan Calloway**)
And we have 105.
Now relax the 22 seniors assumed leaving; however many have eligibility, that’s the number of additional transfers out we need to see to make the roster work.
Now again, make 2 more slots for Qunicy Porter and Faheem Delane both of whom JF / BP recruited heavily out of HS (gotta dream).
**Ethan Calloway CB by Evan Watkins appeared and then disappeared this morning. Evans’ article is still on 247 at the link.

Best of luck to him.
Had to go back and find Evan’s article from this morning about his CB for Calloway. The CB was erased but the article was not. See the link.

He goes from being terrible per the armchair QBs to a 1st rounder

Go rewatch the Syracuse game. He got used and abused. It’s possible he was just mailing it in, who knows.

I realize players don’t play in a vacuum, and it’s a team sport, but I’ve watched enough football to know when a player is having a bad year. He bit on numerous stop and gos. Just looked like he didn’t want to be at VT. Just my opinion.

As a DB, your front 7 can help or hurt you.
Same with stupid coverage calls...

didn’t take an expert to figure that out.
That being said, LOTS of factors , both on and off the field, can enter into on field performance

Best. Everyone I ever played w/ wanted to win & wanted to look like a good athlete in the process. They may not have been the best athlete but they were at least self motivated to give their all. Did you ever play a sport & not try?

Evan issued the CB on Calloway this morning and wrote an article on it. His CB has been removed but:
"LSU offensive lineman Ethan Calloway has become a target for Virginia Tech out of the transfer portal and I have logged a 247Sports Crystal Ball in favor of the Hokies.”
Nice way to clean up your CB success ratio.
Here’s the link to the article.

...get my head around these transfers/commits. Is there any precedents for anything like this anywhere?

The numbers always work out. More will be coming and more will be leaving.

The only thing that changed is when they can enter the portal, not whether they can transfer.
Portal = the mechanism to announce your intent to transfer.
Transfer = the actual act of leaving and enrolling elsewhere.
The NCAA didn’t take away the right to transfer. They restricted when you can formally declare it.

If this is true. Any player worth anything could post his intent on social media and rhe world will know immediately.

And there are some exceptions that allow a player to go into "the Portal" like a coaching change....

That’s the only way the numbers work. The point you refuse to acknowledge is VT is in the enviable position of having a full roster and not being forced to scavage the bottom of the portal or recruit from the bleachers.

The flawed calculations and projections you've been posting are based on an incorrect assumption.
Just look at the roster as it currently exists. There's no way VT is stopping at 20 incoming as you claimed a week ago. As I said, the number will be closer to 30 incoming when it's all said and done.

Your argument is the OBJECTIVE math does not work because you SUBJECTIVE opinion says it won’t.
I clearly stated my ASSUMPTION and after the MATH, relaxed that assumption.
Boring.

The bottom line is last week you said VT would take 20 incoming portal transfers.
Because I looked at the actual roster to date and not just the numbers - because I know "the numbers always work out" - I said this wrong. VT would clearly need more than 20 because VT needs to get 15 starter level transfers alone. VT is about halfway to that number which means VT almost certainly will take closer to 30 incoming transfers.

VT had 14 listed on the 2025 roster of whom only 2 were seniors (Jaden Keller, Will Johnson). 3 LBs transferred out and 1 transferred in (Keon Wylie). Caleb was the notable loss. But we have a possible freshman ready Terry Wiggins.
Not sure what to make of it.
