You gotta be kidding me. The hardest thing they are going through now is choosing between flying 1st class commercial or going with a private jet.

or whatever with people or townie teenagers heckling him in the stands? I'm sure this isn't easy for anyone, Pry and his family included. Yes, it may be offset somewhat by a check so he doesn't have to work for a while/again but there are people involved beyond Pry.
Anger...I sense in you....

regarding them being sorta 'shakenly impressed' by the money they now had. After Fuente I kept an eye on Fry and apparently the money kinda shook him also to some degree (?). Don't know if it affected their attention to football, but I didn't like their 'overwhelmed' comments reflecting it. Never heard that kind reaction/comments from Saban or Jimbo. I'd rather see a big $$$ incentive for success than a big starting salary. Whatever.

What the hell does Pry and his family have to worry about? They can immediately move anywhere on the god damn planet and live comfortably for decades.

almost no chance they end up staying in Blacksburg. I imagine he had planned to stay in the area for quite a while. I'm sure he did the best job he could. Unfortunately, he wasn't very good at it.
Money definitely helps, but to think they can't feel a certain way because of it is pretty short sighted. Nobody needs to feel sorry for the guy or even his family. There is no reason not to have any empathy toward them.

What an ignorant and indecent thing to say. Imagine trying to navigate high school and having random kids come up to you yelling at you that they're glad your Dad sucks and got fired.

One can simultaneously have (and express) sympathy and be sad as to how it turned out and recognize it needs to end. I think most of these guys gave it everything they had but it just wasn’t enough. That happens sometimes and no need to tear anyone down. Especially if you are in the know, which is where Whit and Montgomery are.

To get fired 3 games into the season.
The reason I blame our AD is he put Pry in over his head and in a near impossible position.

Fuentes was.
Pry had resources and just wasnt a good head coach AND brought in first time coordinators... Not good.

The salary structure reflected it, that was supposed to be the capstone assistant hire for Pry, and he was gone for Notre Dame in a year.

simple as that IMO. we have less than half the pool of money compared to clemson and FSU for staff. Pry simply could not attract better talent with experience. plus, he is not a good coach.

.When Pry was hired - the coordinators salaries plus other staff went up a considerable % compared to what they had been. Pry's hires themselves were the problem. Fast forward 3-4 years and we again are behind PLUS have NIL to deal with.
Anyway - we have better people on this now. Plus, all the eyeballs possible within Hokie Nation - we have to get this right for when the next round of consolidation happens ( 4-5 years away) we need to be ready with a winning FB program.
PS - Get ready to open your checkbook....

Shane was sorta a G.O.B. but he at at least worked his way up and was tied to their program.
Being Frank's sin didn't hurt.
I'm not sure what ties Fu had except Foster endorsing him after a plane trip

VT failed miserably at this to date. Keeping Foster was a mistake. The replacement of Bud was a mistake. Allowing Ballien to drive the hire of Pry was a mistake. An endorsement from the legacy group is a strike against the candidate IMO. Gotta move on and start clean as the success of the Beamer era ended roughly 2010/2011 and clinging to it has only kneecapped chances of matching it. Put it all in Frank’s empty NC trophy case and lock it in the Burrus basement. This has to end or VT will become Wake Forest.

Everything about that stiff, very scripted performance- vocal tone, body language, the bit about "respecting the chain of command"- tells you everything you need to know about what's coming. I suspect that may be the last time you see him holding a press conference at VT. The next one will be about him, not by him.
