Still laughing about the two stooges calling the game for the ACCN Saturday
One kept calling us Vee Tech. The other kept calling us Vah Tech. Question for the masses here. Would anyone be, I'm trying to be nice here, challenged enough to call Georgia Tech GeeTech or Gah Tech? Enquiring minds want to know. I know. I know. Too early for this stuff, but it's an early day for me. ::heavy sigh:: ** Edited by Snape at 11/13/2023, 9:54:04 AM

And after halftime, he acknowledged how we hate it and he'd try and stop
Which I thought was pretty funny. I stopped watching about midway through the 3rd as witnessing murders is not a hobby of mine.

At least Orlando Franklin was kind and not Mark Jones
I cut the guy some slack. He got his education at UM, played O-line, and probably had his noggin banged up a little. His just started broadcasting this August. ESPN is taking a chance. He'll get better or not a lose his job. But he was very complementary of our team. I like having announcers that played the game and played in our conference. I personally loath the likes of Stewart Scott wannabies like Mark Jones that just exude ESPN snobbery for programs like us. Between the "low five" incident to him constantly saying VT was "imploding" on every play against a very good FSU team, he makes me want to turn off the TV. And he's very "professional" broadcaster.

100% agree with this.
Orlando Franklin wasn't great - but announcing really isn't nearly as easy as it looks/sounds. Some of the "old guard" are starting to simply be shills, lazy, or simply parodies of themselves. Brock Huard is one that I really enjoy listening to. He is very fair to both teams and turns college football into an epic event without having to resort to histrionics and volume. I wish he we had an equivalent to him for east coast football.

Brock is really good imo. The other team i like is the Sat night SEC ..
Channel group with Tom Hart, Jordan Rodgers and Cole Cubelic on the sidelines. Entertaining and very knowledgable. The Cole Cubelic podcast called Cube Talk on youtube is great if you are a hard core college football junkie... Years ago I heard Brock on an interview about top High school qbs about to enter college. He said he had gone to one of the Elite 11 camps or something like that and I think DJ Ungulelee, Cj Stroud and a few others were there. Said Bryce Young was a 165 lb skinny guy but was so heads and shoulders above everyone there in his ability to process information and read defenses that there was no doubt in his mind he would be a superstar

I thought the commentator had some interesting insights - better than avg
but he definitely needs practice getting this thoughts together quickly then smoothly verbalizing them Also appreciated the acknowledgement after halftime that he was using an unpopular nickname for Virginia Tech, and he tried to stop... but then he went right back to calling us V-Tech. Sure seemed like V-Tech was an ingrained habit going back to when he was being recruited in HS by VT coaches who used that nickname. But just call us Tech or VT if Virginia Tech takes too long to say
Tuckahokie Tuckahokie
He knows the game...just needs a little work on his delivery but overall
his heart seemed to be in the right place.

If Tennessee Tech is not too long to say, then there's no reason to shorten
Virginia Tech. At least I have never heard any broadcaster refer to Tennessee Tech at Tenn Tech. It wouldn't surprise me if the only reason people started saying "Lah Tech" is because Louisiana's postal code happens to be the same initials for Los Angeles.

Just Go to Bill & Mike for Audio....Dolts Muted
Those ACC guys were third team bad.....V-Tech The one problem that maybe somebody knows how to resolve for me, is the time lag between broadcasts. Our guys are at least 30 to 45 seconds behind the TV video......makes it a bit tough to follow.
Vienna_Hokie Vienna_Hokie
if you're streaming, even YTLive or Hulu Live, or on satellite, nope
video and audio are way out of sync, you'll know what you're going to see about 10 secs before you see it.

One full play for me
Would love to listen to Bill but my mind can’t process that much lag. So 90% I go mute and do my own commentary

More reason to listen to Bill & Mike
They are usually a little ahead of the broadcast, but that just lets me know when to cover my eyes...lol

I prefer being called "Vah Tech." That crew was very tough to listen to.
I'm pretty liberal with grammatical errors, because my grammar is so poor, but the loose grasp on English grammar was a distraction. I was continually distracted with "I think he just said the opposite of what he is trying to say." I do think "Vah Tech" is cooler than Virginia Tech. When we were hot, I loved it when ESPN called us "Vah Tech ." "V-Tech" I don't care for, but it doesn't bother me.

Agreed, way back in the late 90s / early 2000's it was an...
ESPN term of endearment or a friendly nickname in the kindest sense. But this VEE Tech stuff I knew would blow up social media and it did like clockwork. My FB and here was littered with rants about it.

I couldn't get over the fact that one of them sounded borderline illiterate
"Me and him," "we was down on the field," stuff like that. You speak publicly for a living!
ShockWaveVT ShockWaveVT
he's a former player just got into broadcasting
certainly needs to work on his broadcasting game, but he had some good/interesting insights into what was happening on the field (and some weird ones)
Vienna_Hokie Vienna_Hokie
He had one interesting insight, IMO, everything else was typical drivel
he talked a couple times about running backs being patient and working through the progression of gaps before heading upfield, had a phrase for it "something the gaps". Thought that was interesting insight, other than that, he said the same stuff every other colorman says every game, just said it in the wrong tense half the time.

I've called them Gah Tech for years, but only as a joke to those who know
I admired the one guy for apologizing after he got feedback. He seemed genuine. As often as he was saying it at first, I thought he might have a Tech buddy that he was trying to annoy 😂
