I'm not sure we realized how far down VT talent has gotten

...and don't wear maroon glasses.
There's a bit of cognitive dissonance on this board that assumes poorly ranked recruiting classes don't mean to VT what they've always meant for most everybody else.
"Not to worry, we're VT, we always find "the diamonds in the rough", "do more with less", "we'll play ours, and they play theirs", "better player eval/development" etc.
The reality however, we spent 20 years recruiting in the top 4 in the ACC, and top 25 in the country. That ended, and the talent went with it. End of Story

At least that's what I saw reported. I didn't count.

The NFL doesn't care about your social media persona. It's a man's game.

Such as the 2nd or 3rd round. But he was always more likely a 4th/5th round guy who could drop further due to production.
Mitchell was always a late round guy. I had him as 70/30 to get drafted coming in. Turner is similar IMO.
Smith and Waller were 50/50 guys. Smith probably just under 50/50 and Waller more like 40/60.
Hoffman is a longshot at very best.

NFL GMs have become more cautious of players who do well in the combine with horrible game tape. Barno’s numbers in 2020 looked good but he didn’t play as well as those numbers would indicate. 2021 was clearly a down year for him.

Barno's 40 was eyepopping but IIRC, his other numbers were pedestrian. Combined with production, not a recipe for a high pick.

These guys had no business entering the draft. Could definitely have used another year. Mitchell is very talented…injury hurt his stock…needed to come back and prove himself. Barno, while speedy, does not have good nose for the football…Football IQ needed refinement. Not sure about Tenuta…guess he just needed seasoning to enhance consistency.

Coach you you’d think would have advised him better

I was working in Ribe last August and September. Nothing like watching the Hokies beat UNC while kicking off at midnight.

Unless he was just done with college which is possible.
Barno I understand why he left at the time but in retrospect should have come back.
Mitchell leaving was IMO a bad idea even at the time.

Have actually been better off even transferring to another school vs entering the draft

The guy just isn’t a football player

He could contribute very little. He could be a star.
Those guys tend to go in the mid/late rounds. Barno is best suited as a 3-4 pass rusher. I think he'd fit well at GB.

Didn’t help that he checked out halfway through the season

I don’t give a damn what you think you saw in his tape!
Taking a shot like this at a Hokie is not cool!
Bad form, bro. Really bad!
