I'm not sure we realized how far down VT talent has gotten

No surprise to those of us that follow recruiting...
...and don't wear maroon glasses.

There's a bit of cognitive dissonance on this board that assumes poorly ranked recruiting classes don't mean to VT what they've always meant for most everybody else.

"Not to worry, we're VT, we always find "the diamonds in the rough", "do more with less", "we'll play ours, and they play theirs", "better player eval/development" etc.

The reality however, we spent 20 years recruiting in the top 4 in the ACC, and top 25 in the country. That ended, and the talent went with it. End of Story

Did I read that Texas had zero draftees?

Yep…..

We're still in the top of the ACC. Only 21 ACC players drafted.
At least that's what I saw reported. I didn't count.

Well look at our record the past couple of seasons

Obvious to me. NFL is elite. These kids are getting some humble pie
The NFL doesn't care about your social media persona. It's a man's game.

Yep & sadly the NFL caliber talent has been missing for many, many years.

Realistically, Barno was a wild card who had a shot at going early
Such as the 2nd or 3rd round. But he was always more likely a 4th/5th round guy who could drop further due to production.

Mitchell was always a late round guy. I had him as 70/30 to get drafted coming in. Turner is similar IMO.

Smith and Waller were 50/50 guys. Smith probably just under 50/50 and Waller more like 40/60.

Hoffman is a longshot at very best.

Old NFL would have drafted Barno 3rd round just based on the combine. The
NFL GMs have become more cautious of players who do well in the combine with horrible game tape. Barno’s numbers in 2020 looked good but he didn’t play as well as those numbers would indicate. 2021 was clearly a down year for him.

Exactly. It’s amazing how many old tropes live on way past sell-by date
VTECHFAN VTECHFAN
True but combine freaks do get taken too.
Barno's 40 was eyepopping but IIRC, his other numbers were pedestrian. Combined with production, not a recipe for a high pick.

Barn, Mitchell, Tenuta
These guys had no business entering the draft. Could definitely have used another year. Mitchell is very talented…injury hurt his stock…needed to come back and prove himself. Barno, while speedy, does not have good nose for the football…Football IQ needed refinement. Not sure about Tenuta…guess he just needed seasoning to enhance consistency.

You’ve just been proven wrong on two of those.**

Tenuta was the most mind boggling. Also crazy because his dad is a former
Coach you you’d think would have advised him better

OT: are you still a Hokie in Denmark?
I was working in Ribe last August and September. Nothing like watching the Hokies beat UNC while kicking off at midnight.
VTECHFAN VTECHFAN
Yeah, I forgot Tenuta... also a longshot
Unless he was just done with college which is possible.

Barno I understand why he left at the time but in retrospect should have come back.

Mitchell leaving was IMO a bad idea even at the time.

I agree. Poor judgment across the board in entering the draft. They would
Have actually been better off even transferring to another school vs entering the draft

Anyone who takes Barno will be highly disappointed
The guy just isn’t a football player
VTECHFAN VTECHFAN
Who knows. High ceiling. Low floor
He could contribute very little. He could be a star.

Those guys tend to go in the mid/late rounds. Barno is best suited as a 3-4 pass rusher. I think he'd fit well at GB.

The likelihhod of hitting the low floor is much greater than high ceiling

WTF??? Man, that incredibly unfair!

His tape last year is awful, just a matter of fact
Didn’t help that he checked out halfway through the season
great2bahokie great2bahokie
I don’t give a damn what you think you saw in his tape!
Taking a shot like this at a Hokie is not cool!

Bad form, bro. Really bad!
