Hansberry attacks the basket constantly (ZERO FT attempts….ZERO)
Hokies made more FG, 3s, shot higher % from field, 3, had a 2:1 assist to TO rate vs Miami’s 0.7:1
Tobi goes vertical, swats ALL ball, Ayers calls foul. Hansberry gets smacked in the face and leaves a 5 foot shot a foot short no call. Not on last play but minutes earlier Hammond had cleared his defender, had a lane to basket and defender hip checked him from side/behind to a dead stop & Hammond had to jump stop not to walk. Guess we just don’t flop enough.

Multiple times this year, we’ve needed to make a constellation of errors to blow a late lead and allow an opponent to come from behind and win. Did it yet again last night. Frustrating.

..Donaldson on that last 3 is haunting me. Certainly made some big plays throughout the night, but that was huge. Hottest guy in the building gets a wide open 3 with under a minute remaining, miss and it's probably over.

Tyler Johnson is a nice defensive player. Would he help? Yes. But the trend of opposing guards absolutely torching VT's defense is another of the growing examples where Mike Young doesn't make effective in-game adjustments. He's going to "run his stuff", on both ends of the floor, no matter what the opponent is doing. When VT is absolutely clicking on both offense and defense, that stuff looks great. When VT is not, or the opponent is doing something that VT cannot deal with effectively, you rarely if ever see Young make a significant strategic or tactical change. He's an excellent teacher and clearly has a good basketball mind, but like many coaches, stubbornness and lack of flexibility are his undoing. Simply asking the players to execute a failed strategy better is not a recipe for success.

You don't have to be critical to the defense, you just have to make a difference. And in that situation, Making a difference can be the difference between winning and losing

He is not that good of offensive player.
There are definitely some major issues beyond TJ not playing. We can not defend against a high post pick and roll , either the opponents big man gets it at the rim or the guard drives it to the rim. Never seen a Tech team give up this many points at the rim.
