Tyler Johnson is a nice defensive player. Would he help? Yes. But the trend of opposing guards absolutely torching VT's defense is another of the growing examples where Mike Young doesn't make effective in-game adjustments. He's going to "run his stuff", on both ends of the floor, no matter what the opponent is doing. When VT is absolutely clicking on both offense and defense, that stuff looks great. When VT is not, or the opponent is doing something that VT cannot deal with effectively, you rarely if ever see Young make a significant strategic or tactical change. He's an excellent teacher and clearly has a good basketball mind, but like many coaches, stubbornness and lack of flexibility are his undoing. Simply asking the players to execute a failed strategy better is not a recipe for success.
