Narrow margins and BAD luck

Fouls 13 to 7 (until Miami intentionally committed 4 in final minute) FTA 13 to 3 Miami Assists 20-7 in favor of VT Turnovers 11-10 in favor of Miami (Hansberry’s fumble out of bounds anyone? SNAKEBITTEN) Two of Tobi’s fouls were absolutely NOT fouls Hansberry attacks the basket constantly (ZERO FT attempts….ZERO) Hokies made more FG, 3s, shot higher % from field, 3, had a 2:1 assist to TO rate vs Miami’s 0.7:1 Tobi goes vertical, swats ALL ball, Ayers calls foul. Hansberry gets smacked in the face and leaves a 5 foot shot a foot short no call. Not on last play but minutes earlier Hammond had cleared his defender, had a lane to basket and defender hip checked him from side/behind to a dead stop & Hammond had to jump stop not to walk. Guess we just don’t flop enough. ** Edited by hokiepro at 2/18/2026, 8:36:41 AM

We are very good at inventing ways to let teams come back and beat us

Yet, still had chances to close it out - Tobi not coming out to challenge..

Tobi had a rough night, from a decision-making standpoint, on defense.**

Several WTH moments through out night

He should not shoot 3 ‘s at all**

He's made four of his last five. Last year he shot 37.1% from out there.

That is a good point. It seemed that all night long Miami was able to drive

Systemic issue with VT defense. opponent shoot first guards killing us 20+
HokieRat 02/18/26 10:48 AM ET
Exactly why we miss Johnson SO much
hokiepro 02/18/26 11:01 AM ET
No one player is that critical to a defense. As noted above, it's systemic
Gobbler Guru 02/18/26 11:56 AM ET
I think people are making the point that when you're playing close games,
wwhokie1 02/18/26 01:41 PM ET
Somerville wouldn't have scored double figures let alone 20+
Jwunderdog 02/18/26 11:12 AM ET
Feels like we lead the conference in alley-oops allowed**
HokieRat 02/18/26 11:32 AM ET
Neither Gurdak nor Dorn can jump, zero help when opposing teams try it**

Whether he is or is not a good offensive player depends

Not always. Sometimes a guy gets on a heater
