Tyler Johnson…at this point I’ve gotta wonder
1) is there tampering
And/or
2) “handlers” involved not wanting him to risk coming back
You don’t get the boot off, run full speed, practice for several days, get the “green light”…then still be listed out (not questionable, not restricted minutes) without either reinjury or someone feeding CMY some BS

Personally, I’d be surprised if he plays again this season with that serious injury, but apparently they’re saying he’s close. Maybe he’s a fast healer.

I have never understood how VT in all sports deal with injuries

I dont think you really need to understand how VT handles injuries other than to say they treat them

As his potential return …now it looks like it’s little chance he plays the rest of the season

vest with injuries and expected returns in terms of giving opponents something else to think about. Also, maybe I just need to listen closer to more accurately hear what is being said. However, I am not sure in listening to CMY and his responses that he has not strung the fans along at times, particularly with respect to TJ and his recovery.

And then the green light comment at the last TTL
If youre aware of him saying different feel free to link it
Regardless, Id say what does he gain from being exact about his timeline, and what do you lose by him saying he's close
This isn't a video game where you get an injury and youre out exactly 13 days. There are points to meet for doctors to clear you. There are points to meet for the training staff to clear you and There are points to meet for you to be a productive member of the team once cleared.

you reference and the only addendum would be he has used the "close" wording on more than one occasion. Young has very little to gain, if anything, from the exactness of is timeline and fans, at least most, probably understand this. Fans, at least some, will lose respect and eventually doubt the credibility of his words if he says the same thing with no changes evident. Your last paragraph is the typical condescending tone you are becoming known for more and more. People realize it is not an exact science, they realize there are various thresholds to clear and there are substantial differences between being cleared for physical activity and further rehab versus being competition ready. However, words have meaning and without more specificity it is very easy for fans to feel mislead with a vague term like "close", especially without further context and clarification. To circle back to your earlier question, CMY walks a fine line with his disclosures in terms of trust from fans and we both know that when trust is loss it is very difficult to regain.

You have trust issues.
He's right in saying he's close. He's right in saying he was given the green light.
He does not owe fans injury updates.

Some other school says "hey we'd like for you to play for us next year so dont get any reps to get better or stay sharp?"
We are 9 months away from the start of next season. Even if Duke wanted him, they'd want him to play and not have a full year off since the last time he played meaningful basketball.
Same goes for the "handlers" POV. He doesnt increase his value by sitting. This isn't a matter where his stock was so high and theyre trying to protect it. He's averaged 7 points across 40 games for his career. Whatever positive value any handlers could gain could only be done by him being on the floor.
What "green light" means is the medical staff says him being on the floor isn't a high risk for re-injury.
What it **doesnt** mean is Johnson is in basketball shape
What it **doesnt** mean is that he can do the same things right now on his leg that would help him provide value to the team
What it **doesnt** mean is that he has confidence in his leg to make the same cuts, jump, push off defensively that he would have to do in a game.
All of that is a process. Not everything is a conspiracy. He's just working his way back and doesnt need the ire of fans second guessing his motives when he's done nothing to show such a scenario is even plausible

On this board everything is a conspiracy (refs, tampering, league hates us, etc.) and everyone is an expert (certain players shouldn’t start, coaches suck, we should play zone, etc.). Most of these same posters donate nothing to the athletic department or NIL and expect us to finish in the top 5 in the conference with one of the smaller payrolls. I would not enjoy coaching in this era between NIL and crazy expectations from fans who don’t give money.

CMY revealed that was what Tobi was on
If you think “load management” isn’t some thing and/or handlers/tamperers wouldn’t want to suggest the possibility of a medical hardship waiver for extra eligibility OR to ensure he’s fully recovered before risking injury…why would they believe VT med staff if someone from outside was talking to agent(s) etc.? Bringing up “Duke wanting him” is a crazy strawman…but there are others a notch below Duke I could see outbidding us
If you’ve been out of coaching for more than a couple years Idk if you have any idea how out of control stuff is right now.
I HOPE I’m WAY off here as I really like the type of player Johnson is….and I hope he’s a loyal guy to CMY and this IS just him not being ready for playing shape…but it’s really tough to hear he’s “got the green light” but it’s almost a week later and he’s not even “available”

I can be out of coaching for 100 years and know how to read a handbook. VT would have to play 43 games this year for Tyler Johnson to qualify.
It doesnt matter if it's Duke or Emory and Henry, he doesnt grow in value by having a long time without playing basketball.
I'm sure it's much wilder than when I coached, but it still follows logic. It makes sense for no one involved for him to sit if he's healthy and able to play at a high level.
Lawal and Johnson didn't have the same injury. Lawal and Johnson dont have the same level of conditioning or athleticism. We dont know if Johnson has had setbacks along his return. But everything that has happened so far follows closely with the logic of him being worked back into action slowly.

that's different from being green lit to play in the game. 2nd from that being able to physically play the game of basketball and returning to action to help the team and not play at some % below 70-80% with reaggervation concerns still isn't anything shady going on but normal healing and eval

and then with no real explanation he did not play and 2 weeks later still hadn’t played

I’m not saying he should be full go…I’m questioning if he got the “green light” 5 days ago why isn’t he available at all?

Who knows everything because he “used to coach”…attempting to refute any possibility that something may be awry in the program. I mean we did hire a GM who lasted less than 3 months because he wanted to fight others in the program. Forgive me If I’m frustrated and wondering why a key player who was injured 2 months ago and out of his boot for 3 weeks, cleared for full go for a week…is still completely unavailable….not even questionable or doubtful. And we have a roster touted as one of the best of CMY era looking like they’re going to miss the tourney again because we blew 2 nearly impossible to lose late game situations and lost on 32 & 48 footers.
Yeah…being teased about “getting healthier” but then NOT…is a continuous gut punch in a season full of gut punches

But leaking an unsubstantiated rumor because you feel someone lied to you about something youre not entitled to is something that should draw ire
