Posting History (355)

I think Bias was a better college player than Jordan

He was the best I ever saw. Not saying he would have been better than Jordan in the NBA. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to find out.

If I were still coaching

I would stay as far away as possible from Ty White. Would much rather recruit players from Takeover and Boo.

After my ACL, meniscus, and microfracture surgery

I was walking without crutches in a little over a week. Was rehabbing on an elliptical the week after surgery, so he could have easily torn his ACL. I couldn’t play basketball for months and had to have a brace and I wasn’t playing anywhere near the level required to play college basketball. If he had ACL surgery, he has a pretty long rehab in front of him but could easily be walking without crutches or a limp.

Wish we didn’t have to play money ball

And could lock down some sure things instead of hoping all of our longshots hit. Sounds like we are playing the lottery.

Today it is almost always money

There are a few Pashas who think they deserve more playing time, but the others are money. Players don’t dislike Young. If you were making $150K and a competitor owned by a UVA grad offered you $200K, you would see if your company could match it or at least compete with it. If they couldn’t, you would take the new offer. These numbers are hypothetical, but if Player A is making $250K and he is offered $750K-$1M and we offer $350K to stay, we won’t keep anybody. If we have no money to offer, we might want to be prepared for walk on tryouts like in 90-91.

Players have to be able to play MTM well in order to play zone

Every zone is based on MTM principles, so if you suck at man you will suck at zone. I like mixing up defenses but if you can’t play MTM, there is no defense you can play.

The $5 million is from revenue sharing

The NIL is not published, but they have done a lot of work to build that number. The Big 12 has also created ways to get money for their schools like the Players Era Festival tournament which pays the basketball program $1 million. They have a higher budget than us but not close to Kentucky.

And they have promised him to be in top third of ACC in NIL

We need to increase our NIL by a lot if we want to get higher than the bottom third. Great hire for Syracuse.

Smart move

Smart move by Illinois coach to take the ball out of the freshman PG hands. He was struggling with the pressure. Illinois definitely has the better team and will likely win but I picked VCU because I had doubts about their ability to handle the pressure.

I have always liked him

Hal Nunnally hired him 2 years after he offered me the job as his assistant. It was his first job and he did a tremendous job.

Great coach

Would love to play for him but I think he is a little too demonstrative with the referees. Most coaches complain but often fans don’t know based on how they do it.

I disagree

Teams always lose based on things they can control. I don’t have a shot chart, but we missed numerous shots in the paint, went 8-32 from 3, let UVA get 11 offensive rebounds and missed FT late. You will never hear a good coach blame refs for a loss. They were more aggressive than us and the more aggressive team typically gets called for fewer fouls. Hopefully Johnson can play 25-30 minutes per game in the ACC tournament because we need everything he brings.

If he is available we need to spend whatever it takes to keep him

If he plays another year in college, he will be phenomenal. His skill set is the best on the team this year and one of the best in the country. If he spends the offseason in the weight room and working on his agility he will be scary next season. His lack of strength and getting accustomed to the speed of the game has created a little hesitancy this year.

Keeping Gurdak is a no brainer

Schutt can stay for the right price. Need multiple shooters, regardless of position. Need 4-5 threats from 3 at all times. Today’s offensive game is more positionless than ever, but we have to be able to defend at every position. The biggest issue will be our investment in the program. If we don’t invest more money, we will continue to build a roster with players we hope work out instead of players we know will help. If you throw darts like this you end up with players with very limited roles like Pasha and Dorn.

Biggest issue was there was no camera angle from that side of the court

I am fairly certain Johnson never touched the ball which is why he was so adamant about challenging the call. Not sure if it would have been different if the game was on ESPN, but definitely have the angle if in NCAA tournament.

Even the best shooters have nights where they can’t make anything

Shooters who shoot with less than 45 degrees of arc have less room for error and can go through prolonged slumps. My biggest issue with Schutt is how often he seems to be targeted by our opponents defensively.

Refs have never cost a team a game

I have coached over 1000 games and refs never decided the outcome. Maybe it is our missed shots in the paint or 7-26 from 3 or multiple other reasons.

Would be easier if some posters

Just said they don’t understand what they are watching

He looks great

Does so many little things well. We are playing better with him in the lineup.

Always a half step slow

It doesn’t take a big opening for a P5 player to get the shot off.

Posters on here forget we were picked 12th

Most think the players are underachieving, the coaches don’t know how to coach or the refs hate us. They don’t realize 12th would still be higher than our NIL rank in the league. The best rosters can only overachieve a certain amount.

Iowa State gives $5 million to the basketball team as part of their

Revenue sharing, which does not include NIL. The NIL money is added to this figure. I have no idea how much they spend, but it is likely more than us. They, and the Big 12 have gotten creative with ways to generate additional revenue, such as guaranteeing a minimum of $1 million for participating in The Players Era Festival.

I agree on the chance to be great at basketball

But we will never get there until we fund the program like a top 10 program. We are currently near the bottom of the ACC in player salaries. If we want to compete with Duke, Michigan, Florida, etc., then we need to add $15-20 million more per season. Our team makes about as much as Dybantsa from BYU. How do we expect to compete when one player makes as much as our roster?

If Schutt had made a pass that was catchable

Then it would matter if there was contact. With such a bad pass and the fact that it was simultaneous with possible contact means no whistle.
