I am tired of this
VT has a better opportunity to win at basketball than football. Virginia has the best private schools . Oak hill is in Virginia. They have like 5 teams now.
I know I am in the minority. But we have a better opportunity to win in basketball.

'experts' say we should just accept this station in life; VT cannot do any better than CMY

to catch up in football, and that can help fund basketball when we turn it around.
PS Most if not all schools sustain success in one sport, yes Michigan and Florida have their years in basketball, but not like Michigan State and Kentucky sustained success. Nor does Kentucky and Michigan State sustain their football success.

Even fewer do both.
And while I wouldn't say Florida has been as good as Kentucky in SEC basketball, they've been pretty damned good over the last 30 or so years. Not many programs can claim 3 NCAA championships, 5 final fours, 10 elite eights, 7 conference championships and 20+ tourney appearances over that period of time.
It would easily be the 3rd best program in the ACC - not too far behind Duke & UNC - since the mid-90s and has probably been a top 10 program over that period of time behind just the bluest of blue bloods.

really sustained tier 1 in both in the last 15-20 years.

It’s obvious. It’s not something to even be debated. It’s just not going to happen.
Basketball has been hard to watch/follow under Mike Young. There is no actual hope for a winner. People talk around here like Young is the second coming of Beamer or something. He is not. Buzz was a much better coach and we wouldn’t debate this had Cattoor not lost his mind in an ACC Tourney a few years back.
The Franklin move was the biggest move since Buzz. It also signaled that we aren’t going to be focusing on basketball moving forward. It also probably signals that Mike Young will likely die on the sidelines here at VT because, well, he at least can keep us over .500 and competitive.

But we will never get there until we fund the program like a top 10 program. We are currently near the bottom of the ACC in player salaries. If we want to compete with Duke, Michigan, Florida, etc., then we need to add $15-20 million more per season. Our team makes about as much as Dybantsa from BYU. How do we expect to compete when one player makes as much as our roster?

Do they have a desirable location, substantial NIL, or decorated history? I'd say they have as many and probably more obstacles to being a top program than VT, and they're currently sitting at #4 in the nation.

Revenue sharing, which does not include NIL. The NIL money is added to this figure. I have no idea how much they spend, but it is likely more than us. They, and the Big 12 have gotten creative with ways to generate additional revenue, such as guaranteeing a minimum of $1 million for participating in The Players Era Festival.

if they have all (if not more) of the same hurdles as VT, but have found long term consistency.

Needed to revamp Cassell a few years ago
Now we can't afford anything

That is if our basketball oppontunity is better than our football one.

and then more fully fund basketball as soon as possible. Not sure I see how VT basketball can generate the money it takes without some help first. Been defunded so long.

Seriously 3rd or 4th in the ACC?
Most college raid Virginia now.
We need 5 players in basketball with 3 -4 role players. Football needs way more

An average football program brings in far more revenues than a better than average basketball team.

Some guy went to a game at Cassell after having not gone to one in years and said it is just fine and does not need any improvement. Check out above thread on Cassell....
