We have something like 2-300,000 living alumni
If every living donor gave 100 dollars to the women's basketball program I don't know how much that would be but I bet it would be enough. For both basketball programs. That's the cost of a pair of decent sandals.... They need to find every living donor and get them to commit to 100 bucks for basketball/year. Call it the Sandals Campaign.... That's where the success lives. Grass Roots. VT is awful at this... And I mean awful...

I saw elderly couples holding hands ...
Sliding down chicken hill on their backs in torrential mud/water flows as if they had resigned themselves that this was the end... Entire families one by one slid by wondering where they were going to end up amidst the chaos... It was beautiful.

How about NIL containers on the way in to the football stadium?
Clear Plexiglass with slits in the top to collect dollars as people make their way in? Have a different non football/basketball sport for each game. Totally voluntary. Announce the amount collected at halftime. 60,000 times 5 dollars average? Today's game is softball NIL game and we thank you for your donation.

Something to think about
What helps us become a lock for the tournament more? Throwing a million or two more at the program or expansion of the tourney to 76 teams? Getting rid of the automatic bid for conference tourney champs would help even more. Limit those lesser conferences to 1 bid only. Either an at-large or tourney champs. Their choice. Just my humble thoughts.... Maybe expanding the field is all we needed. Our team last year was capable of a Sweet 16 run had we gotten the chance with everyone healthy....

My stepfather passed a few years back....
He made me promise I would bury him next to my mother. His daughters (blood relation) opted instead to have him made into multiple necklaces... that was a shocker. Hardest loss I've ever faced other than losing mom was the death of my beloved Border Collie.... Sorry Hokebury, I know it hurts...

I don't think they can comprehend that yet.
I sure learned the value of being a VT grad. So have a lot of other Hokies. We have a fantastic reputation at VT... and along with that some expectations...

What is the role of the University when it comes to providing athletics
I think this is ultimately the question our administrators are trying to answer. Is it about offering the opportunity? Or is it about making playoffs/tournaments/winning national championships? Both? Does every sport matter? I believe we have a faction that wants nothing to do with the endless race to pay more than the next guy just to land some kid who might not pan out or might leave in a year when it comes to these other sports. I could see it as a rational position to be "all in" for football that drives the $$ train and provide the opportunity to compete in the other sports including men's hoops without high expectations. Maybe that's where we are at this point.....

Not accepting NIT
Not trying to get emotional about this idiotic decision but our basketball program just lost me...... Bye Bye..

Time to Move on...
UNC played well. Took advantage inside and took Baker out of her game. Time to put everything behind them and focus on the Tourney. We are 0 - 0. Season starts now. Good Luck ladies, we are very proud of you.

I brought up the Cassell renovation/replacement subject a few days ago and
found out Cassell is fine. An old alum went to a bball game for the first time in a long time and it looked good to him so I need to shut up and color...

BC has kinda been a "nemesis" fur uns...
Don't forget the "one guy off the bench" who averages 1.3 points a game and 1 assist who will have the game of his life going 8 for 9 from three point land and scores a career hight 39 points against us...

I have 5 vehicles that have either held their value or gone up drastically.
2 are trucks (Toyota) and 1 is an old Jeep.... All are paid off. It is still possible to make a well informed decision when buying a new car. Nice work...

Oh no it doesn't
Some guy went to a game at Cassell after having not gone to one in years and said it is just fine and does not need any improvement. Check out above thread on Cassell....

We all love Cassell. It's about premium seating...
According to what I could find we have the 23rd oldest arena in D1 out of approximately 353ish D-1 programs. Most arenas older than ours have gone through at least some type of renovation. We all love Lane Stadium but it had to be renovated to capture more premium revenue. The comments on this subject have been interesting and I appreciate reading them.

Valid Point
Only problem is it has to happen at some point. So now would be cheaper than 10 years from now. Unless of course it falls in on itself...

You're right...
Keep Cassell. Just take out the seats and we'll sit on the concrete. Hate to have anyone scrutinize VT for trying to replace and aging old obsolete basketball arena...... It can't be done apparently.

I figured 80-100 million in today's dollars but OK.
Are we building a basketball arena? Or, are we trying to book Taylor Swift in SE VA? I'm trying to figure out how to get an arena built for our bball and wrestling/volleyball programs that fits our budgeting and fundraising capability. Yes, it did dawn on me that Phoenix is a tad bit larger than Blacksburg/Christiansburg/Pembroke and hence more opportunity to market non-sports related events. Just off the top of my head, Christian-Centric concerts and mid-tier country music/bluegrass acts might do just fine in SE Va.. Thousands flock to Floyd, Va. every year for Floydfest. They haven't moved Floyd Fest over to Phoenix yet.....

Not to beat a dead horse but...
Grand Canyon University built an entire arena for 40 million about 10 or 15 years ago. It holds about 7500 and they pack it. It is every bit as loud as Cassell. That we can't put something like that somewhere is ridiculous... We need a targeted push for a Cassell replacement. Funds solely directed for a new Arena. Also, I have been told VT does not really give a s--t about you until you hit the 100,000 dollar level of giving. I completely believe that and it is the absolute wrong approach to fundraising. We have almost 300,000 living alumni. Contact every one of them and ask for 100 dollars and you have half your new arena. Put the infrastructure in place to have 10 bucks a month come out of their paychecks and in 3 years you have an arena paid for. Good grief pick up the phone and start calling Whit. Rant over....

Plenty
And that was only half of it. Jim Boeheim threw such a fit about having to go to Blacksburg that I was told it was mostly to appease him that our Bball program was left out. The other part of the story was that the old Metro Conference upon hearing of our football program joining a conference (we were independents in football) and led by the scumbag Denny Crum voted to kick Va Tech out of the Metro for all sports essentially leaving us without a conference affiliation for anything but football. Luckily the A10 allowed us to sweep the remaining pieces of our athletic department into their league where we languished. This is why I will gladly tell Denny Crum or Jim Boeheim to go screw themselves if I ever run in to them. I was not happy when those 2 programs were sucked into the ACC. That was how I remember it.

Until the locals are purged
You can expect subpar performance. VT Athletic Dept is the most poorly run organization I have dealt with. Worse than Hughesnet. They should all be given that book titled Good to Great. Of course someone would need to teach them how to read first... Just my 2cents...

Tear out those upper corners
I think we should rip out those upper corner seats and put in some type of Loge or Box seating in replacement. Maybe private stairs/elevators to those boxes. Cater them. Put in private bathroom etc etc... Get creative. Hell one entire corner brings in zero revenue as it is student seating which is always empty. It would knock capacity down to right where it needs to be. About 7800-8200. It looks dumb with seats all the way up anyhow...

Lack of Backbone is "Spot On"
My wife calls them the "aw gee shucks" gang. Our Athletic Dept ought to have an enormous chip on its shoulder as bad as we have been treated over the years starting with Denny Crum and the Metro Conference...

Yeah, and as a Golden/Platinum level giver
My season ticket capability is upper corner. About where those two are sitting by themselves. I have tried to figure out WTH is going on with our tickets but no one seems to give a **** so I gave up caring as well.. Stopped driving 6 hours to go to games and gave up season basketball tickets. There are games being played with the good seats for bball and football. Great seats have been empty all year... For a laugh inquire about sideline tickets and luxury boxes. They won't even call you back...

Understandable
You've got a hell of a ball player... She'll get even better. One of the best that's worn the Hokie uniform in my opinion. I wouldn't worry about these 15 year olds on their I-phones down in mommy and daddy's basement.... I'd pay attention to the 5000 that cheer her on in Cassell and love her and love to watch her play...

Carleigh is getting hammered
Getting beaten up like she does and not getting the call affects your game. For those who've played you know what I mean. It's tough to make shots down low when you are getting fouled. When you don't get the call it affects you psychologically... She is a giant piece to this puzzle whether she is having a good game or not. Keep fighting girl....

Those 2 missed calls could really hurt this program
Im still not sure the back court was a missed call. Does the player need to have possession first and then lose it in the back court or does tipping it accidentally back constitute the call? Absolutely atrocious no call on the elbow to the face followed by the hand slap to the face against Carys. Nevertheless, this loss I think puts us needing to win the next two and I just don't see it happening... WNIT/WBIT here we come... I hope I am wrong.,..

Watched our game and KY game this evening
Tonight (at least) we looked better than KY. KY did have a nice crowd of about 750 fans though. Coach Duffy has these ladies playing well together and having a blast doing it. I like the way this program is evolving.

Too many fouls to give at the end... Poor execution late... No one who can go "downhill"... Good riddance. Coach
Duffy is a step up imho....... Duffy has them coming together at just the right time.
