So, for those of you who are faulting folks on this...
You should listen to the SoS podcast with Justyn ... he explains exactly what happened. Short version, he knew going in that there would likely be some repercussions, but he viewed it as the experience was worth the risk - especially since at the time he did not know he was going to be coming back. He also said that there were others who participated in this one event - and others and they are serving longer suspensions. I don't fault him for what he did or for any lack of "guidance" - he was going through a process and didn't know he was coming back so he was taking an opportunity to make himself better and get better feedback.

That being the NCAA will choke on a gnat with a log in their eye. Certain
programs get away with murder but then they enforce tricky tack rules that are really senseless. Since their powers have been curtailed they like to flex unnecessary muscle if and when they can.

The NCAA is a joke
They just want to control these young men. Nobody should be punished in any way for exploring their options. I understand there have to be rules and limits, but a suspension for this is just stupid. They gotta have their control though.

Yup. It is a total sham

Geez….wonder what they would have done if someone had given him

I'd love to know the Karen that reported this

So the Karen's as you called it
Is probably one of our own....you still upset about it? Or since VT probably reported it then its cool
W
WildTurkE
In a word, No, I'm not upset.
I had no idea this was likely self-reported. I hope that's the case and not some other school trying to catch the Hokies in a technicality. Especially given the blatant cheating that goes on by the blue bloods with little consequences.

Newsflash
Cheating of some sort goes on at EVERY program....everyone of them
MP4VT2004 MP4VT2004
There's a big difference between an infraction due to a player...
....participating in an event that is not sanctioned by the NCAA and (hypothetically speaking) a university creating phony classes to help prop up the GPAs of "student-athletes". Not that such a thing could ever happen in the prestigious Athletic Coast Conference, but the NCAA's inconsistent enforcement of its own rules is one of the multitude of reasons I don't watch any college sports anymore. I agree that "cheating" of some sort probably happens everywhere, but I don't consider the Mutts suspension the result of "cheating" in any sense of the word. He was contemplating entering the NBA draft, and apparently simply got careless with the things he participated in.

Still breaking the rules
Which is basically cheating. Agree on other things and there is a difference but still breaking the rules is breaking the rules

This stuff gets self reported 99% of the time

In all likelihood they self-reported months ago

Yeah, NIL shams worth hundreds of thousands for putting your cardboard
cutout in a car dealership, but he has to sit for doing something that was for his future. The NCAA is a cesspool.

Let me get this straight:
I can pay Justyn Mutts $10k to participate in an unsanctioned 'NIL H-O-R-S-E Tournament' in my driveway, and that is totally permissible under NCAA rules. But if an NCAA basketball player participates in an actual tourney (unpaid, I may add) to further their post-college career, that's where they draw the line? ** Edited by The_Phew at 11/5/2022, 8:54:08 AM

Yes justice is served. UNCheat kids don’t go to class for 3 decades and get
not even a slap on the wrist. As usual well done NCAA. Calipari, Dean Smith, Huggins, Pearl,Coach K they all salute you for keeping a watchful eye out for serious violation such as this. Not since Bruce Smiths mom got a free load of firewood has there been such an blatant & egregious violation. Keep up the good N o C heating A t A ll.

Yep...
Somebody dropped the ball in advising him where he could and couldn't participate. Hardly a stiff punishment though.
